SHONNA SLAYTON is the author of the YA novel Cinderella's Dress and its sequel, Cinderella's Shoes, both fairy tales set in the 1940's. She finds inspiration in reading vintage diaries written by teens, who despite using different slang, sound a lot like teenagers today. While writing Cinderella's Dress she reflected on her days as a high-school senior in British Columbia when she convinced her supervisors at a sportswear store to let her design a few windows--it was glorious fun while it lasted. When not writing, Shonna enjoys amaretto lattes and spending time with her husband and children in Arizona. She is currently writing a new fairy tale/historical retelling.

The best thing about this book is the cover. Overall, the main character was shallow, the premise unconvincing, and the resolution altogether too easy. The "magical dress" part of the story didn't really work for me. Not bad, not great. Meh.

This had a lot of potential, though very little by ways of living up to it.The writing is simply what it is. It is not beautiful, it does not turn a good phrase, but it is also not painful to read. There were a few points when I cringed at the dialogue, but that's not much out of the normal, to be h...
