Whoa. It's staggering the amount of stuff that Pratchett manages to cover. The main plot follows the Inquisition's evil mastermind Vorbis, who wants to inflict his religion on various other nearby countries. He is aided in his schemes by the young man Brutha who cannot read or write or sing, but has...

Oh, Terry Pratchett, you scoundrel. A terrific, tongue-in-cheek send-up of organized religion that manages to point out its foibles without being threatening in the least. Also, while I was reading, I kept wondering if my tortoise Denise was actually some sort of small god, and then I would look o...

This time Pratchett takes a sharp, funny jab at organised religion. In the city-state of Omnia, ruled by a theocracy, young novice Brutha hears a voice that no one else is able to, and coming from a tortoise, no less. Brutha may not be as clever and power hungry as Vorbis, nor is he considered to be...

A fantastic read. I didn't find the characters as engrossing as in some of his other books, but the look at how Discworld - and as an extension, how we in this world - view and change religion was nice, and as simplistic as some of the truths in the book seem when we're reading them, its funny how a...

Belief shapes reality. And Gods need their believers just as much as believers need their Gods.

The Great God Om spoke to the novice Brutha, and he said "Hey you". Not quite what might be expected from one's god. Partly as this god isn't quite what a believer might expect, on account of him currently being manifest as a tortoise. A shape that's a little embarrasing for a god. The time of the p...

With so many books in this series I thought I'd only review those that stood out for me either good or bad. Can you guess which this one is?One line, a few pages in, made me laugh louder then anything else has for a bit."Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you."What a brilliant line and I was hopin...

Only Terry Pratchett can make a mockery of religion in general, yet not be offensive about it. This book quite possibly rivals Night Watch as my favorite Discworld book. It was an awesome read, and practically read itself it did. Much recommended!
