This was so much better than Reaper's Gale. That particular book seemed to wallow in the meaningless. This one, however, sought meaning in tragedy, and that is one of the things I have enjoyed so much about this series. I may discuss spoilers from previous books. I'm not sure why anyone would be...

This is one of my two favorite Malazan novels. A lot of story lines come together here, and things are making more sense.My only complaint would be that Erikson seems to be channeling a little Kruppe in his writing...there were a few points where I rolled my eyes! But I still loved it

I was pretty excited to get this book; not only was it the next installment in the Malazan series but it was well reviewed by just about everyone in the fantasy blog-o-sphere last year.
