I'm always happy to find a new mystery series, and I think Louise Penny's has promise. This first installment was... slow. Really slow. But it was interesting nonetheless and I'm hoping she finds her stride and pacing as the series progresses.

I had heard good things about this book so when the audio version came available at the library, I nabbed it. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't nearly as positive as many reviews had promised. Before going into why it didn't work for me, I want to say that I enjoyed the narration. Lots of French...

I decided to listen to Still Life on audio book largely because I know SusannaG is a big fan of the author, Louise Penny. Although it is one of the few contemporary books that I have read this year, I did enjoy it quite a bit, especially the insight that Penny seems to have into a wide variety of pe...

I'd been wanting to try this series for a while now, but when Book #1 of 11 (latest comes out on August 25th) goes for $13.99 Cdn, it's a pricey tryout. But finally, the price dropped to $9.99 and I picked it up. Oh, I'm so glad I did!! Louise Penny is Canadian and the book (the whole series ...

Penny's prose is absolutely transporting and her Chief Inspector Gamache charmed my socks off in spite of, or perhaps because of, his being a total Gary St...

This book (and the many I've since read that follow), are more textured and layered than your pharmacy bo...

What a great way to finish 2014! I had wanted to read this saga for a while because I had seen it in many "must read" lists, but I had never found the time to put it in my list. I am so happy I did now. This book is everything a cozy mystery should be, plus excellent characters. At first they were...

This is Louise Penny's first novel. I have forgiveness in my heart for first novels (and all novels, because when I have I written a novel, but first novels in particular). Especially if they're set in a cozy little town in rural Quebec outside Montreal. However, Louise Penny does this thing, which ...
