~BOOK BLURB~

Like Never and Always

Ann Aguirre

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a hot summer night, Liv, Morgan, Clay, and Nathan are on the way home from a party in Clay's convertible. Best friends dating brothers? It doesn't get better than that. But the joyride ends in sudden impact, a screech of brakes, and shattering glass. On that lonely country road, four lives change forever.
Liv wakes in the hospital. At first, she's confused when they call her Morgan, but she assumes it's a case of mistaken identity. Yet when the bandages come off, it's not her face in the mirror anymore. It's Morgan's.
Morgan always seemed to have a perfect life. But as Liv tries to fit herself into Morgan's world, she discovers endlessly disturbing secrets of the criminal and murderous variety and a dark task to finish...if she doesn't lose her mind first.
Forced to confront the disturbing truths that Morgan kept hidden in life, Liv must navigate a world of long-buried murder, a dangerous love affair—and a romance that feels like a betrayal.
The cover is brilliant, and the blurb for it seems like a fantastic idea, but the execution…was off.  I wanted this perfect explanation for what was going on, even if it was something that dipped into the supernatural, but it just kind of fizzled. Also, sometimes the odd love triangle this had going on felt seriously awkward.  While it had its suspenseful moments, and the characters were mostly likable (especially Clay), the story ultimately left me confused and let down.  There was this tidbit of a plot twist thrown in at the end of the story that just leaves you feeling like…wtf was that all about?
The Surviving Trace
Calia Read
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Will is my fiancé. The shy man I met years ago in college. The person I’m supposed to spend the rest of my life with.

This is the life I’ve always wanted until finding a picture of four men changes everything…

Étienne says he’s my husband and the year is 1912. He can’t stand the sight of me, but I don’t know why.

Oh, and he’s one of the men from the picture.

I’ve done the impossible and have become trapped in time and I know Étienne is my key to going home.

The more time I spend with Étienne, the further I fall for him until I’m questioning which time I belong in and if the life I left behind is the one I truly desire.

All I know for certain is I need to survive time.

I need to survive love.

And I need to make it out on the other side alive.

I know that when it comes to a time-travel romance you have to be able to suspend belief, otherwise it won't work…this may have been asking too much suspension of belief for me.  I feel there were too many plot holes that felt like she was trying to keep you in the dark about what was really going on in 1912, that left me confused, even after I got to the end.  I don't know if it was is an editing thing or what???  I also felt that things were a little too contrived to be palpable.

The one aspect of this story that I loved was the romance between Serene and Étienne, their chemistry was quite hot.   I really adored Étienne.  Serene, well, I liked her most of the time, but she had her witchy moments.  But the dynamic of these two, offset by Étienne's siblings, Livingston and Nathalie were what kept me reading despite the issues I had with it.

Apparently, there are more books coming, I'm not sure if it's one or two that will continue the story between Serene and Étienne.  Knowing there are more books helps the ending make a lot more sense, though.  I have a feeling I will read the next one, in hopes that they will help this story come together.

My Thoughts

This is a super cute read for a preteen girl or any girl looking to get over being dumped by some boy.  Did I feel this was something that might occur or happen in real life, probably not…but the life lessons TBSG is trying to impart are present and for the most part, solid.

 I read this mostly because of reading challenge I'm doing where I needed Character names, and it really scored on that front for me.  With both a I name for female with Isla Rush and U Name for Male with Emory Underwood.  Sometimes, reading challenges get me into some fairly awful books and this one wasn't one of those…it was an easy breezy read.

My Thoughts

Despite being smartly written and having a highly imaginative plot, I have to say that Jackaby was not for me.  I wouldn't say that it was wretched, by any means, only that I didn't find this to be overly engaging. I believe maybe the Sherlock Holmes style of mystery detecting; mixed with the paranormal elements, just isn't for me.  Although, the audio, is smashingly well done.  I only managed to finish this because I listened on audio, otherwise, this could have very well been a DNF.

My Thoughts

Girl meets boy…girl has instant connection to boy…girl finds out she's something paranormal-ish, and boy is too.  Been there, done that. If you like that sort of read and don't mind some high schoolish antics (like…wtf was up with the impromptu ghost hunting they did?) then this story is a well written one.  It had it's funny moments, I'll give it that.  Unfortunately, it just isn't for me.  I think I'm over this kind of read.  Maybe, I should quit trying to make this genre work for me, but some of paranormal out there is doable for me.  Still trying to decide if I want to give her adult series (Charley Davidson) a try.  It seems to have more Mystery approach, so it might work.
