My Thoughts

Everything, Everything is a very quick read/listen…so quick that I couldn't be upset with anything, not really, but I also didn't find any of it to be all that real, or heartfelt.  They were cute characters, at least the two main characters, already can't remember what their names are.  The romance between them was very sweet.  This book…while not everything it was…something, I guess.

Will I read more from this Author?⇜  Meh…

⇝My Thoughts⇜

I only read this because I needed a book with a metal in the title, for a reading challenge…Tin Lily fit that.  I probably wouldn’t have ever gave it a second glance, otherwise.  To me it feels like the author read how-to-write-a-story-101, complete with not-so-subtle symbolism (with all the tin/metal references).  For me, it just came off as too structured and not enough heart.  I didn’t really connect with the characters.  I only felt like I should feel sadness for them, instead of actually feeling it.

The ending is the only time I felt into this book, and saved it from a 2 star rating.  But, maybe, I was just happy I was almost finished.

⇝Sex Factor⇜

Not a factor.

Will I read more from this Author?  Despite not really liking this, I will read more by him, because all the other books that I've read by him; I have liked. (It's entirely possible my rating of a 3 is because of this, otherwise it would be more like a 2.5).

My Thoughts

Loosely based on Pinocchio, this is a dark, futuristic (I think, actually it's hard to pinpoint) take on the classic tale.  My last fairytale retelling was a hit and so I really thought I would like this but it really fell flat for me.

While, ultimately, it has a profound message to impart, I was unable to connect with the characters and their darkly told and sad story.  I'm not sure if it was the narration, but I believe it's at least partially to blame.  I've loved some of David Estes' other works, namely the Dwellers and Country Saga's.  Maybe…it's the humor that is so prevalant in them, and is decidedly missing from Strings that has made it so I couldn’t really connect with this story.

Sex Factor:  None, very clean actually.

My Thoughts

If you haven't tried listening to an audiobook yet, this series is a good place to start.  The audio is so well done, it's hard not to be captivated by it.  As long as you're all right with some darkness.

In this second installment of The Young Elites Series, we see Adelina slowly going over to the Dark Side, you're a part of it, you feel it, every step of the way.   A little Vader like...I feel like I'm starting to understand what motivates her more, and Violetta too.  There is also an interesting development that comes about in this book, it's kind of cool, but I won't give it away.  Also, we get some new Elites in this book…some very interesting ones with crazy kick-ass powers.
