A Curse Awakened (Weird Girls Novella, #.5)
A Curse Awakened - Cecy Robson

I have a love/hate thing going on with this series.

I love the four sisters:  they are all likeable, independent, intelligent women.  3 out of 4 of them are sarcastic.  They all have very kick-ass gifts.

I HATE the angst.  There's a LOT of angst in this series.  Heaps!  I'm sort of dreading the next full-length book as it looks to be drowning in it.

But this prequel was angst free and it was everything I generally like about the series.  Fast, entertaining, humorous with lots of action.  The prequel is a quick story that takes place in their hometown in New Jersey, days before their departure for greener pastures.  The scene in the witches garage was phenomenal.  Vivid.

All the fun, with none of the angst.

A Curse Awakened by Cecy Robson
A Curse Awakened - Cecy Robson

**Thank you Random House and Netgalley for providing this in exchange for an honest review**

The Wird sisters are moving in 4 days. They need to move for their own sanity. Their parents were murdered and they need a fresh start somewhere that isn't filled with painful memories. Things seem to be falling into place for them. They've all found employment and have almost finished their packing. Then Celia's ex, Danny, calls. He needs help from the girls. His father has been kidnapped by vampires.

This was my first introduction to the Weird Girls series. Even though I didn't love it, I did enjoy it enough to move Sealed with a Curse from my "Maybe" to to my TBR list. The thing I loved most about the story was the bond the sisters shared. What can I say, I'm always a sucker when it comes to sister stories. Another thing I really liked was how the girls powers where handled. Each has their own unique power. They also have distinctive, likable personalities.

There were a few things I that bothered me. Taran has a fire ability. It's obvious that she is immune to her flames, but her clothes? Really? Also, how did Danny go from not really knowing anything about supernaturals to becoming an almost expert on all thing supernatural? He said he was able to track down a few books recently, but yet he seems to have all the answers when the time comes for the girls to break their curse?

A Curse Awakened (Weird Girls 0.6)
A Curse Awakened - Cecy Robson

Discover Cecy Robson’s sensational Weird Girls series—or return to where the magic first began—with this eBook original prequel novella about four sisters coming to grips with their unique supernatural powers.

Synopsis:

Celia Wird shouldn’t possess the ability to transform into a tigress. Her three sisters should never be able to burst into flames, heal wounds, or transform common objects into deadly weapons. And yet they do.
Before they were born, the Wird Sisters were cursed by a spell that was intended to destroy them, not endow them with extraordinary powers. The sisters’ magic is untamed and explosive at best, and time is running out for them to take command.
Vampires have targeted Celia’s sweet, tragically human ex-boyfriend Danny. The sisters rush to his aid, but in order to take down the vamps, first they must face their dark past and break a spell that’s screwing up their powers. Except this curse wasn’t meant to be broken . . . and the witch who cast it isn’t done toying with them yet.

My thoughts:

This was a fun little read.

Being a novella it was pretty short but that does not mean it was any bad. It was jam packed with action, humor and some pretty gross scenes.

I liked all the characters; they were funny and yet scary at the same time.

I was surprised by some things that happened and I did not see them coming.

All in all in was a great read and I give it 4 ★
