New Release Review! Air Born (The Guardian #3) Rayanne Haines!

TGIF Readers! Today I am joining Quinn as she has to join forces with the one elemental that she can't stand in order to defeat the coming darkness! Enjoy and don't forget to add Air Born by Rayanne Haines to your shelves!

Quinn Taleisin hates secrets, and shadows, and subterfuge. Which is why she still can’t believe she agreed to become a member of the Guardians, an elite force of immortals tasked with keeping the balance between good and evil in the world.

Sounds great, except, to be a guardian you must agree to live in secrecy. Quinn is a wind elemental. Being caged in by secrecy is worse than death for someone like her. She can’t imagine a worse fate—until she’s asked to work with Lachon Findel, the man she holds responsible for her mother’s death and her father’s insanity.

Lachon is the oldest living elemental in the world. Known as Lachon the Law, he’s an earth element; a man who sees the world in black and white, right and wrong. So maybe once, briefly, a hundred years ago she thought he was a good guy. She knew better now. No way would she fall for his savior of the world shtick.

When the dangers of the past catch up with them, Quinn realizes the only way either of them will make it out alive is if she can put the ghosts of the past behind her and finally trust the flesh and blood man in front of her.

‘Air Born’ is an engaging and spirited read that keeps readers hanging on the edge of their seat. The spunky and electrical relationship between Quinn & Lachon keeps readers chuckling with every smart mouthed quip and shaking their heads as they wonder if these two will ever get it right. Lots of sizzling chemistry, energy, passion and turbulent emotions flow these strong, vivid characters which makes it easy for the readers to feel as if they know them personally.

Lots of adrenaline pumping action and thrilling suspense fill the pages of this fast paced plot and Quinn and Lachon take on the darkness, try to come to terms with their pasts in their hair raising journey to catch the malevolent being.  Warning, be prepared to experience a high level of adrenaline, shed a few tears and be struck mute by a couple of stunning twists and turns throughout this energetic read.

Airborn
Airborn - Kenneth Oppel 3.75 stars

This book didn't catch my attention for awhile. Near the end, I really enjoyed it. I think a younger reader will love it throughout. It has an airship that's more like our cruise ships. There are pirates and flying creatures. The leads are a boy and girl trying to find an unknown animal and save the day. It has lots of adventure.

Airborn - Kenneth Oppel 2.5 stars.

I enjoyed it. I did. But I kept comparing it to [b:Leviathan|6050678|Leviathan (Leviathan, #1)|Scott Westerfeld|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1275694232s/6050678.jpg|6226342]. There are enough similarities that I couldn't help it and I did try to be objective.

Let's start with characters, shall we?

Matt is nice but a bit bland. I'm sorry, but to speak plainly; he's in love with the airship, with the idea of flying, aaaand...that's pretty much it.

Kate: Oh, Kate. The sassier, I-just-don't-care character. I liked her, though she was a carbon copy of many girl characters I've run across recently. And I wasn't sure how I felt about her at the end. Feminism and all that. I was also confused....She's what? 14? 15? And the scientific community is letting her run around with her discovery? They're cool with that? Hmm, no.

The story: Pirates and Cloud Cats!! Not really what I was expecting when I picked it up. I mean, it was all centered about this animal that they call a "cloud cat" and its discovery.

description

And the pirates were there for some danger so we didn't get too bored.

Man, I'm ripping this up, aren't I? Well, in all honesty, it was good. Writing was good. Good imagery. A bit "meh" but I liked it and I'll probably try the rest of the books in the series.

Miss Clark: Don't bother yet, though. I'll let you know if the series is worth it after I'm done.

Also, Leviathan is loads better.

Airborn - Kenneth Oppel Matt Cruse’s normal life as cabin boy of the airship Aurora is changed forever on one extraordinary voyage, filled with pirates, a mysterious island, and a beautiful, dangerous, and previously undiscovered creature.“This is my home,” I told him dully. And I’d never felt it more than now. I’d bundled everything into this ship, all the good feeling I had; all my sense of belonging was beneath my feet, every hope of happiness. And I thought that at least I would die here at home.Reminiscent of Treasure Island, this book is full of adventure and daring. The author pulls the reader into his imagined world of giant airships in a way that even land-lovers like myself will find entrancing. Matt makes an incredibly likable protagonist, and the other main character, Kate, is full of spunk and fire.Though this book is considered a YA novel, some YA readers may find the plot a bit predictable and the characters a bit two-dimensional. (For instance, Matt is loyal; Kate is strong-willed; Bruce is gentlemanly; the captain is professional; the cook is obsessed with cooking; the pirates are ruthless, etc) Despite having some violence and some navigational and airship-related jargon, it seems better suited for a somewhat younger readership than the the typical YA novels.Overall: A swashbuckling tale of airborne adventure, perfect for young fans of Robert Louis Stevenson.
