This wasn't at all what I expected. I thought it would be a full-on parody of Alice In Wonderland; however it was more like little drabbles of old fairytales.

I liked it.

Not all of them were funny. Some were kind of sad and gave me the feels. Some just made you think. At some point, when you grow up, you realize how bass-akwards children's versions of fairytales are. Like why did the princess always need some random dude to roll in and save the day?! Why did the princess never save the prince? Being swept off your feet is nice and all, and I fully endorse it, but I also endorse rescuing yourself. And why was it always happily ever after? Can't it just be, content, or okay ever after? LOL!

I kind of like this twisted, sort of cynical play on the old tales. Definitely a good read.

I'd seen several reviews for this book and none had given me a very positive image. Still, the idea of this book ensured I had to at least try.

 

the idea is the best part of the whole thing. If this is where re-imaging fairy tales is leading us, bring back the Brothers Grimm! It's clearly gone too far.

 

I can see where the single page sections inserted piece meal together would work great as a website, but they make for a mess in book form. A site map (index) linking the pertinent pages together might have offset this; instead you go through several pages of different stories before you realize each fairy tale will be built on. This style also does not allow for the reader to really grow close with the characters either. I simply couldn't care what happened to any of them.

 

I'm sure there are people out there who like this book; I'm simply not one of them.

Um not sure what to say about this. I think I would have preferred a chapter to each story than random little snippets from page to page. I laughed a couple of times but overall it was disappointing.

Well, May certainly flew by fast! Lots of things happened...I'm now a children's librarian (part time), but unfortunately, that means my reading has definitely slowed down and will do so quite a bit this summer - especially since I'm planning summer reading.

Favorite: Definitely The Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Such a fantastic book to listen to, and the word-building...beautiful. .

 

 

How many did you read this month? What book was your favorite?

This one just didn't do it for me. Some people may find it funny, charming, and a rather unique collection of fairy tales. But I found that it was just bizarre, had too many innuendo's, and was rather bias. Now the author is probably doing that on purpose but it definitely turned me off.

 

Alice In Tumblr-Land is told in short stories with pictures sketched with said story. There's a twist, familiar fairy tales are told with internet and the 21st century add ins. It's an extremely quick read, something you can easily skim while sitting in the doctors office.

 

The problem I had is that most of the jokes didn't make me laugh out loud like I was hoping. Some of them frustrated me, some of them offended me. I suppose it really depends on what type of person you are and what kind of humor you enjoy. Give it a try because you never know. 

 

One of my favorites (and rather cheesy):

"Pinocchio e-mailed his professor and said, "I've had a family emergency and need one more day to work on my final paper."
