Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s sensual and painfully beautiful Guild Hunter world in her new novel of sacrifice, loyalty, and the choices of love that can shatter the heart.

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot— should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

Archangel’s Shadows is book seven in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. We get our kickass Guild Hunter and our darling Cajun hottie while adding in an intriguing mystery that will pull you in and keep you engrossed.

Ash has this tough exterior which makes her easy to like. We are treated to some major revelations on of her past that are shocking. It’s sad, but also adds a great deal more depth to her character.

Janvier I feel in love with. He’s an easy character to love. You see from the first page that he loves Ash unconditionally and it only becomes more obvious as the story progresses.

The entire cast of characters is present and we get more on each. One we have not seen much of is Naasir, until now. There’s still so much more to discover about him and I’m excited to read his story and see who Singh focuses on next.

Archangel’s Shadows was the perfect blend of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. This story is full of mystery, suspense, and action. Ash and Janvier’s story was deliciously gripping and satisfying.

Rated: 4 Stars

Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter) - Nalini Singh

Ash and Janvier's story is one I really looked forward to reading. I have enjoyed watching their chemistry anytime they partnered up. In their story, we find out why she kept him at a distance even though they both knew they each loved the other. Everyone knew they were a couple even if they didn't give in to their passions. She was trying to protect him from a heart-wrenching secret that would tear him apart if she were to give in to their flirtations and desires, but she comes to realize that by not telling him why it was hurting him. She wanted the truth to come out to help him understand. Once it does he fights to keep her and love her. Full throttle. During this exploration of their love, they are hunting down a sadistic monster that left mummified carcasses of women in dumpsters. They will not rest until justice is served and the victims are laid to rest. The scenes with her sister Tanu and her brother Arvi left me teary eyed. I enjoyed their adventure, I loved going back to Raphael's New York and seeing all of the other characters again.  Nalini knows how to weave a story of passion, mystery, crime solving, and emotion into a well-written page turner. I very much enjoyed this one.

It's a guild hunter book -- of course I enjoyed it. Not sure I can add much to how I reviewed the first six in this series.

Janvier and Ash were the featured couple in this book. I liked their romance better than some because it built; but, Ash's "terrible dark secret" keeping them apart and the horrible thing her brother did *eyeroll* -- what a melodramatic buildup to nothing much

(her powers were genetic; so when powers awoke and she started exhibiting symptoms matching her mentally ill sister who went her brother put her in psychiatric care ).

(spoiler show)

Glimpses of cast of characters and enough hints about Nassir I'm expecting his book next.

Overall, though, the story arc didn't go very far. This book, good as it was, wound up seeming more like filler material just throwing out hints at the overall story. Everyone recovering from last big battle and forebodings of more to come -- but not a whole lot happened.

Some quotes as I was posting reading progress updates:

“I will personally nail his nuts to the floor before slicing him to ribbons."
