Christmas Romance
Christmas Romance (Best Christmas Romances of 2013) - Danica Winters
Four sweet Christmas stories from your favorite romance authors to warm your heart for the holidays.

Christmas Wishes-Danica Winters: For most, Christmas is a time for family, love, life, dreams, and wishes—but not for Lee Llewellyn, a mother who has recently lost her son to an accident and her husband to the resentment it caused.
In a chance encounter, she is given the gift of company on Christmas, but is she ready to move forward and start living again?

Christmas at Central Bark-Jennifer Conner: When Tennyson’s boyfriend left her for her best friend from high-school, all Tennyson received in the break up was her dog. She’s sworn off men and now is rebuilding her life. The only thing Par does is work. He barely has time to do anything he wants for himself other than take his dog to the dog park. When Par and Tennyson find an abandoned dog at the park named Duke. Will they find room in their hearts to take him in?
And can this Christmas season weave some special magic for the two of them?

Halo's Wish-Sharon Kleve: Halo Ann Carlyle wishes for a home, family, and a boat-load of pets. What she gets is a bruised hip, a lump on the head, a broken ankle, and her new yellow Honda Civic is demolished.
Rich McFarland, a sexy veterinarian, keeps showing up in the most unexpected places, promising everything she's ever wanted.Halo believes she only has time to pursue her career as a pet detective and must ignore her growing attraction to achieve her dreams.
Will Halo trust her heart, and find a way to get both before Christmas?

Christmas Hope-Casey Dawes: Clara Misowski is convinced Sam Richards’ cheese making operation would be a perfect stop for her culinary tour group.
He’s adamantly opposed to anything to do with a group of women on his farm.
Can she convince him to open his heart to company, Christmas, and maybe even her?

Goodreads "Best" of 2013
Tangled - Emma Chase
Beautiful Bastard - Christina Lauren
Real - Katy Evans
Entwined with You - Sylvia Day
The Longest Ride - Nicholas Sparks

I just checked out the Goodreads Semifinalists for Best Romance of 2013, and oh, boy, am I ever out of step with "popular opinion," if that list is anything to go by. I managed to read only one of the nominees cover to cover -- Emma Chase's Tangled, which I hated and wrote a feminist rage fueled one star review about. Two others I DNF'd because it was clear so early on that I would have nothing good to say about either book: Beautiful Bastard and Real. I did not even try to read Sylvia Day's Entwined With You because I hated the first Crossfire book and quit the series (and it's hard for me to break up with a series), and I've never liked anything by Nicholas Sparks so I've got no interest in The Longest Ride.

So, of twenty semifinalists, the only five I know anything about I have extremely negative feelings about, which does not lead me to believe that the other fifteen choices would appeal to me at all. Am I really so out of step? If this is truly the direction in which the genre is heading, stop the world, I want to get off!

Christmas Romance - Danica Winters,Jennifer Conner,Sharon Kleve,Casey Dawes

3.25★★★Christmas Romance

I was given this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is a collection of 4 Christmas shorts.

2.5★★★Christmas Wishes by Danica Winters
This was about two people dealing with lose, coming together to begin recovery. Princess Penny is adorable saved the story for me, although the dishwasher came in as a close second. While humor and romance finally show up towards the end, I thought there was a bit too much depressing for such a short story.

★★★★Central Bark at Christmas by Jennifer Conner
Can a lost dog really heal a broken soul? Maybe if you team up with the cute jogger to find his owner. I was rather surprised by Par's house, I would have never guessed it to look like that.

★★★★Halo's Wish by Sharon Kleve
I've read this one before and liked it. Halo's Wish Review

2.5★★★Christmas Hope by Casey Dawes
Not sure what it was, but I'm not feeling this one. The ending was a lot better than the beginning, but it still felt off to me. I liked Lucy the best and she was just a side character.

Not sure if this has been through an editor or not, but I was surprised by the number of mistakes on such short stories.

Best Lesbian Romance 2013 - Radclyffe Sweetly romantic f/f is the theme for this book. Each lesbian encounter shows a different flavour of women loving women. The variety is a pleasing as well as comforting. This collection is a slow and smooth rolling arousal. It's a gentle foreplay for those who are beginning their journey into the girl on girl action. This book contains a bit of tame to kinky. Each writer does a good job of creating a self contained story with beginning, middle and end. Some kick up the heat factor while others generate a fond smile at the innocence.

The two stories which stood out the most are Night at the Wax Museum by Delilah Devlin and The Color of Autumn by Joey Bass. Ms. Devlin delights the reader with her paranormal lover with a snarky attitude. This twist on vampires is both humourous and erotic. Sexy fun is quite arousing. Ms. Devlin balances it perfectly down to the end. The ending is fitting and with a witty bite.

Ms. Bass reminds the reader of first love. In this story, an outcast slips out of her protective cocoon because of love. Young love is never sweeter than how it is shown in this short story. The way Desiree's self perception changes 180 degrees because of a chance meeting, it's heart warming. It's a fantasy dream bringing a smile to many a reader because each of us have felt awkward during our teenage years. And hopefully we all met that one person who changed our life for the better. We may not have stayed with that person forever, but they made a profound positive impact. This sentiment is powerful and why this story spoke to me.

This anthology of talented f/f writers is recommended to romance readers who prefer women.

What happens when physical expression and pleasure come along with romantic love? We have 17 stories that seek to answer that question, exploring a variety of situations from singles to married couples, even at least one divorcing couple perhaps seeking one last hurrah before it ends."
