Review: SAVAGE OF THE SEA by Eliza Knight
Savage of the Sea (Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea Book 1) (Volume 1) - Eliza Knight

SAVAGE OF THE SEA by Eliza Knight is the First book in the Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea. This is the story of Shaw “Savage” MacDougall and Lady Jane Lindsey.
Shaw had a rocky start but he has made a name for himself as a pirate but he does have honor. That is proven when he saves a young Jane for certain rape and death. Shaw takes her to the Abbey to be safe. Neither forgot the other and now Jane finds that she needs him again. Shaw again steps in to help her but this time it leads to more excitement, trouble and some great love scene.
Love their story and this author's writing.

Reading progress update: I've read 5 out of 112 pages.
Britannia Volume 2: We Who Are About to Die - Peter Milligan

I thought the first Volume was exceptionally entertaining--a supernatural whodunit set in ancient Rome and Britannia--and I'm hoping this follow-up case can match it, or at least come close. an unrelated note: between this and Angelus!, it will be nice to take a break from books with severed heads on the cover. that wasn't really part of the plan, but I noticed it after the fact, and even though this graphic novel isn't quite as gross to look at as the Tremayne novel was, that is clearly some kind of disembodied head of something, with a weird black twisting tubey-thing running through it. next cover won't have a gross head on it.

Britannia
Britannia - Peter Milligan

I was pleasantly surprised by Britannia, the new graphic novel (now in trade paperback) from Peter Milligan. Recently not all my graphic novel experiences have been so good, so my expectations were not so high, but this turned out to be without reason.

Set during the rule of Nero both in Rome and in Britannia it follows Antonius Axia, who is called the first detective. He doesn’t do that much of detecting, but since he Sherlocks his way through life by being observing I guess the title is not that far off. However, it is mostly a horror story, so the detective-part wasn’t big enough for my liking. It is still quite a complete story in the limited amount of pages.

What I did like was that every issue was followed by a short essay on different aspects of the stories, like the Vestal virgins, Nero and life in Roman Britain.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Britannia - Peter Milligan

It's Sherlock in a horror story set in occupied Britannia.  Not your every day comic, but somehow I couldn't get invested.
