Bone Vol 8 Treasure Hunters
Bone, Vol. 8: Treasure Hunters - Jeff Smith

5 Stars, buy it

Self purchase, comixology, reread review

Everybit as good as the other volumes. Fantastic, great for kids of all ages. I know all of my reread reviews on these are all the same but when a series is that great, you can’t help but repeat yourself with how awesome it is.  The art is fantastic and so is the writing. I Love Lucius and how cranky he is. Of course the bones are awesome. And the Stupid Stupid Rat Creatures are hilarious, but I love only Bartleby. I highly recommend this series to everyone.

Summary (From Amazon): Tensions come to a head in the eighth epic volume of the BONE series. The Bone cousins, Gran'ma Ben, and Thorn finally reach the city of Atheia, where they reunite with old friends and plan to thwart The Lord of the Locusts. The Pawan army has joined forces with Briar and the rat creatures, and danger increases as Thorn's visions get stronger. Meanwhile, Phoney Bone is convinced Atheia is a city rich in gold, and he is determined to find it!

This volume is the swimsuit issue and is freaking hysterical. At least in the first half. Originally when I read this series it was in black and white. Now it's in color. Awesome. My one tiny beef. Abby is supposed to be hot but I totally don't think she is.  This volume does get a bit anxiety provoking when the new woman in town in competing for Michael’s attention. Abby is not pleased. Fortunately the stress doesn’t last long. Of course everything is resolved but not without some drama. I loved this volume a lot.  Highly recommend the series.

Self Purchase, Comixology, Re-read review

It really is amazing how consistently good this comic is. Art continues to be fabulous and the writing is amazing as well.  Everyone should be reading this series of graphic novels. They are amazing even on the second time around.

Plot/Storyline: I forgot Moby Dick plays a role in this although I've never actually read it. I'd forgotten about Bartleby and how cute he is. In issue two, the opossum children are following Fone Bone and Smileybone. Of course trouble calls and they meet an orphan Racoon. Then more trouble happens and they meet Rockjaw who chases them and they end up trapped high on a ledge. And when things calm down in the final issue, Bartleby ends up going back with rat creature.

Artesia Volume 2
Artesia Volume 2: Afield - The Second Book Of Dooms - Mark Smylie

5 Stars, Buy it

Self Purchase, digital copy, re-read review

Overall, just as good as the first one. However, its just as confusing and overwhelming with how much detail goes into it. It’s a bit too much military type stuff, but still Artesia is an amazing character and I feel like almost everyone could enjoy parts of it. Again, I think it’s adults only because there is graphic sex and graphic violence. However it’s not done in an unneccessary way. Highly recommend this series.

In the first volume there weren’t really that many obvious sex scenes though I remember vividly there are some. In the first issue of the second volume there is a sex scene and it’s really well done.  As in the first volume, the art continues to be spectacular and the writing is fantastic despite all of the military jabbering confuses me a lot.  Issue two in this volume left me really confused as it was all military stuff and I wasn’t quite sure what was going on. Issue 3 and 4 are more military moving and 5 and six we are back in the swing of fighting again. And at the end of issue 6, Artesia finally declares herself queen.

Artesia Volume 1

Self Purchase, re-read review

I originally read these when they first came out. I loved them then and recently repurchased in digital format and will now do re-read reviews of them.  I had thought I had bought these through Comixology but then I remembered, I got them through Drive thru comics (where I also get Girl Genius).

Wow, this is a reread and I’m still blown away completely by the art. A Freaking amazing. I especially love the combination of color pencils and watercolors. The writing is fantastic and already I remember how confusing this series gets. Which is why I’m going to try to plow through them all close together so maybe I can better  understand all of the politics.  Basically, Artesia is a female Captain in the military. She hears and sees ghosts. I don’t understand all of the politics but there is a lot and I won’t go into.  WARNING, this series should not be read by younger people, as in this fictional world, (like ours should be) there is no sexual hang ups. Sex is shown as good. It can be graphic but its so amazing you won’t care. Also Bisexuality is treated as normal. I hesitate to file it under GLBT but it does contain GLBT elements so I feel like I want to, so I will.   It can get graphic violence wise as well, so really this series is meant for adults.  Anyway, the first volume really isn’t that graphic sexually, it must be in volumes 2 and 3 where it gets very adulty.  I really, really loved reading this again and will probably start on volume 2 tomorrow. Highly recommend.

One of the very, very few things I dislike about the series is all the military stuff. I’m not huge into military type stuff, but it’s so much more than that that I can handle it. It just gets confusing.

Artesia is amazing. And I love that she is bisexual and it’s treated as normal. Also in certain scenes, she looks a lot like Janet Jackson. LOL. And honestly, some of the people look so similar to each other it sometimes gets a bit confusing trying to tell them apart.
