This is very short.
Coyote Bluff - Marshall Thornton

The story ended at ca. 36% on my kindle. I got it for free via unlimited and would have been furious had I paid for it.

The rest was promo for the author's other work.

The story was a bit confusing, as for me there was no real story. A glimpse into a couple's long-term relationship. I am probably missing something, but to me it read quite pointless - as a short story. As part of a bigger story it might become an interesting scene, but like this I wasn't interested in the characters.

Coyote Bluff - Marshall Thornton

Short and bittersweet - with a little grain of salt.

I can't even explain why I love Marshall Thornton's writing so much, I just do. His words feel so real to me and touch me everytime, even though his style is far from purple or "romantic". Even this story, that is clearly not a romantic novella, broke my heart a little. The contemplation of life and love and trust wasn't a neat little linear monologue, and Gary was not what I would call a "straight and narrow" kind of guy. But he didn't have to be, because in the end it was about more than just a relationship, but still all about love and trust and happiness with yourself and another person. Like I said, bitter sweet and very real. I really liked this one. It didn't hurt that Thornton has the technicalities of short stories down to a T. Really good.

4,5 stars!

I don't think the story is more than 10 pages long.

But it is not about the LENGTH and it is not about WHAT, it is about HOW.

Marshall Thornton is a writing genius and I want everybody knows it.
