Castle of Wizardry - David Eddings

I'm sure some of the enjoyment of this series is coloured by it having been a book I read and re-read during my teens.  I had issues during the time with the depiction of women then and I still have it to some extent and with the implicit racism (not all Alorns!)  Now I do get that having a guiding god moulding people in their image could make people tend to tendencies but dammit variety is good, and it brings up huge free will issues.

Garion discovers truths and goes on a quest to kill Torak. Ce'Nedra discovers what her future holds and people gear themselves up for the epic battle that will happen.

Yes I enjoyed it overall but the characters are sketchy and I still love Silk. I think he was responsible for the years of playing thieves in role playing games.  These days I mostly play clerics by the way.

Magician's Gambit
Magician's Gambit - David Eddings It really can't get any less than 4 stars for the "does bouncing count" question later in the story. The merry band gather more members and the plot train keeps them going. Fun but sometimes the racism irks.

Queen of Sorcery. David Eddings
Queen of Sorcery. David Eddings - David Eddings Much as I recall, story moves at a gallop, though nothing much happens other than to get to know the characters better and for them to become a team and for a lot of worldbuilding. Garion learns more about himself and all is made more complicated by politics.

#boutofbooks 16 – Day 5
Sorceress of Darshiva Book 4 of the Malloreon - David Eddings
Bout of Books

Day 5 and I'm relaxing a bit in the sun on my lovely balcony, book in hand.

I just hit page number 300, so I've got 100 pages left of Sorceress of Darshiva. As a teenager I never noticed how Eddings sometimes comes up with the most riddiculous ideas to fuel the plot. I lost it when he suddenly introduced a completely new (and nonsensical) piece of information that would render everything that happened before and after superflouous – only the characters didn't seem to care. Well, I knew before this was only lit for fun, but it is becoming more and more apparent why.

And now I'll continue reading :)

I don't expect to finish this book today, but maybe tomorrow morning.

Polgara the Sorceress
Polgara the Sorceress - David Eddings,Leigh Eddings It's the story of her life up to Pawn of Prophecy by Polgara and mostly I liked the voice, except for the sexism and racism. You'd think that someone who had lived several lifetimes would have learned that there are a lot of things men and women have in common and that some women are different to others and not all women and not all [insert race here] are the same. Yes it's easy for someone who has lived a long time to become very ingrained in their thinking but she's done so much stuff and with wolves a lot of the time the female is the leader. It's lazy.

Still it was interesting to revisit my teenage years, I wonder how well the original series would live up to re-reading or would it really annoy me.
