Deadly Encounter (FBI Task Force #1) - DiAnn Mills

DEADLY ENCOUNTER BY DIANN MILLS
This book starts out with Stacy, a vet who volunteers to ride the airport perimeter on the weekends. None of the other volunteers are free that day so she heads out by herself on her horse.
She finds a scene, a man, motorcycle down, a lab and a clearing where a drone is sitting. Alex is the FBI agent who is investigating the scene and he continually asks her the same questions over and over and that riles her as she has other things to do that day at her animal hospital.
They finally get a break when she realizes his accent and what locale he's from and he recognizes hers.
Story also follows Whitt and his dad. Whitt works for Stacy and she holds onto his money for college so he won't give it to his drunk father. Stacy wants to adopt Whitt as he's only 12 and bring him up better than his parents. She also tries to teach him about God but he's too hurt to understand...
Also follows Alex and the leads he gets with the investigations. God is present in all the characters but some to a lesser degree, some to a stronger degree.
More threats to her life and more mysteries arise...
Interesting read as I learned new things: airport ranger and bio terrorism. Love all the charity and volunteer community work involved throughout the book by many.
So many twists to this tale as the story goes on. Like this new series and hope to read more.
I received this book from The Book Club Network (bookfun.org)  in exchange for my honest review.

Review: Mail-Order Marriage, various authors
Mail-Order Marriage (Stick-With-Me Notes) - Mary Davis,Judith McCoy Miller,DiAnn Mills,Denise Hunter,Tracie Peterson

Cinda, Emily, Maura, Gabe and Daughtry find marriage partners through letters, but will they find happiness with Lucas, Cade, Luther, Lena and Nicholas?

I usually choose to read these collections from Barbour Books based on the theme and at least one author being already known to me.  In this case, the theme is one I enjoy and there were three authors whose writing I had been wanting to try more of/for the first time - Denise Hunter, DiAnn Mills and Tracie Peterson.  After reading the story by Tracie Peterson, I went back to the beginning of the ebook to check on publication dates.  I was a bit relieved to see that hers from 2002, so it having read like an early work made perfect sense and mitigated my disappointment with the storyline, writing, and especially the immaturity of a heroine who reacts to problems by continually running away.  I enjoyed the entry by Denise Miller, and was charmed and delighted by DiAnn Mills' mail-order husband Gabe.

Overall, an enjoyable collection of stories which were originally copyrighted between 1996 and 2002.  If you enjoy historical inspirational romance and/or mail order bride stories, this is worth picking up for Mary Davis' Cinda's Surprise and DiAnn Mills' Mail-Order Husband in particular.

This goes out to Jenny who noticed there is a Lighthouse in Romance trend.

Right you are!

Here are some great Romacnes with Lighthouses leading the way! My lists are never in any particular order.

1. The Lightkeeper by Susan Wiggs

Jesse Morgan is a man hiding from the pain of his past, a man who has vowed never to give his heart again. Keeper of a remote lighthouse along a rocky and dangerous coast, he has locked himself away from everything but his bitter memories.

Now, the sea has given him a second chance.

A beautiful stranger washes ashore, the sole survivor of a shipwreck. Penniless and pregnant, Mary Dare is a woman who carries painful memories of her own.

With laughter, hope and joy, Mary and her child bring light into the dark corners of Jesse's world. But when their friendship turns to passion and passion becomes love, secrets from the past threaten to take it all away.

2. Never Been Witched by Annette Blair

The Cartwright triplets—Harmony, Destiny, and Storm—are psychic sirens who use their magic for good and their good looks for seduction. But for Destiny, catching the attention of a paranormal debunker isn’t going to be easy.

3. The Exile of Sara Stevenson by Darci Hannah

In 1814, Sara Stevenson, the well-bred but high-spirited daughter of celebrated Scottish lighthouse designer Robert Stevenson, falls in love with a common sailor, Thomas Crichton. On the day of their clandestine elopement, Thomas mysteriously disappears, leaving Sara heartbroken, secretly pregnant, and at the mercy of her overbearing family. Refusing to relinquish her hopes that Thomas will someday return to her, Sara is banished to an eerie lighthouse on lonely and remote Cape Wrath. There she meets William Campbell, the reclusive yet dashing light-keeper who incites her ire—and interest. Soon Sara begins to accept her life on the cape and her growing attraction to William—until a mystifying package from an Oxford antiquarian arrives, giving intriguing clues to Thomas’s whereabouts. Through her correspondence with the antiquarian, Sara slowly uncovers the story of her beloved’s fate. But what she doesn’t immediately grasp is that these letters travel an even greater distance than she could have imagined—as the boundaries between time and space unravel to forge an incredible connection between a woman and a man many years apart.

4. Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas

ustine Hoffman has made a comfortable life for herself on the island of Friday Harbor. She is the proprietor of a successful boutique hotel, and she has the safe, predictable life she has always wanted. Growing up with her flighty, nomadic mother, Marigold, has instilled in her a deep longing for stability. But in spite of everything Justine has achieved, there is still something missing. Love. And after years of waiting and dreaming, she is willing to do whatever it takes to change her destiny.

What Justine soon discovers is that someone cast a spell on her when she was born, with the result that she will never find her soul mate. Determined to change her fate, Justine finds a way to break the enchantment, never dreaming of the dangerous complications that will follow.

And when Justine meets the mysterious Jason Black, she accidentally unleashes a storm of desire and danger that threaten everything she holds dear . . . because Jason has secrets of his own, and he wants more from her than fate will ever allow.

5. Love Unexpected by Jody Hedlund

1859
Presque Isle, Michigan

What Is the Secret That Could Shipwreck Both of Their Lives?

All Emma Chambers ever wanted was a home, but when her steamboat sinks just outside Presque Isle, she's left destitute and with no place to stay.

An unlikely solution arises when the lighthouse keeper arrives in town. He's just lost his wife and is having a difficult time caring for his child. So a traveling preacher gets the idea that the keeper and Emma might be the answer to each other's dilemma. After a hasty marriage, she finds herself heading to the lighthouse with this handsome but quiet stranger. Nothing in her aimless life, though, has prepared her for parenting a rambunctious toddler, as well as managing a household.

Emma soon suspects Patrick may be hiding something from her, and then she hears a disturbing rumor about the circumstances surrounding his late wife's death. It seems as if her wish for a home and family of her own could end up leading her once more into turbulent waters.

6. Point Surrender by Anne Carter

Amy Winslow isn’t looking for a mystery; she doesn’t even like secrets. In fact, secrets have nearly destroyed her life. When a terrible accident forces her to take control of her brother’s mysterious California lighthouse, Amy finds herself immersed in its shocking past and uncertain future. Enchanted by the mystery, she refuses to rest until she finds out who died in the aging white beacon, and why.

Case McKenna hasn’ t quite reconciled his own painful history when he sails his crippled boat into Newburg Harbor, intending to stay only long enough to make repairs. His plans change when he becomes entangled with a local couple intent on restoring a long-shuttered lighthouse. Despite an overwhelming urge to flee, Case follows intrigue and passion, as he, too, finds himself drawn in by Point Surrender…

7. You're So Fine by Kieran Kramer

Lacey Clark's dreams of Hollywood stardom didn't turn out quite the way she planned. Instead, her life is more of the daytime-drama variety: One of her actor ex-boyfriends fathered a child with another woman, and now, long story short, Lacey is the adopted single mother of his son. She takes little Henry with her to South Carolina to escape the film business but winds up working at a small movie studio, determined to do a good job both on set and at "home." Only problem is she ends up sharing a house with movie star Beau Wilder, who is no role model for Henry--and only spells trouble for Lacey…

LEAD TO A HAPPY ENDING?
Beau is arguably the most gorgeous man on the planet--and a known ladies' man. His wealthy Lowcountry pedigree is rivaled only by his bad-boy charm, a combination that proves irresistible for Lacey. And he adores Henry! If they weren't both on a movie set, their lives would seem too good to be true…unless the chemistry--not to mention the burning attraction--between them is real, and Hollywood's golden boy is actually falling for this sassy single mom? When it comes to love, sometimes you just have to throw out the script…

8. The Lighthouse Brides Collection by Andrea Boeshaar

Visit heroic beacons along the shores of Florida, Oregon, Massachusetts, Texas, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, where their light keepers work tirelessly and long for love. Immerse yourself in the beauty and danger of lighthouse history as six romances bring together adventurous—but lonely—souls. Penned by an exclusive selection of Christian fiction authors—including DiAnn Mills—this collection of stories will become a cherished favorite.

9. Spun By Sorcery  by Barbara Bretton

Chloe is always losing things-but an entire town? Just when she was about to settle down in Sugar Maple with her soul-mate Luke MacKenzie, her Fae enemy Isadora strikes, and her new hometown is gone. Even the Book of Spells, her lifeline to magick, can't help her now. Just in the nick of time, her friend Janice roars up in Chloe's ancient Buick with Penny the cat and her yarn stash in tow. If she is going to save her home she has to go back to Salem, where family secrets and centuries- old feuds pull her into the fight of her life.

10.  The Angel and the Outlaw by Kathryn Albright

He wants her as his bride, but the law wants him!

No one asks the dark, brooding stranger about his past. People gossip, but daren't question. He and his young daughter live alone—and that's the way Stuart Taylor wants…needs it to stay.

When the spirited new schoolteacher, Rachel Houston, is touched by Stuart's shy little girl, who's never uttered a word, everything starts to change. Stuart's surly manner doesn't worry Rachel—she can see the vulnerability hidden in the depths of his blue eyes. She's convinced there's more to the rugged, handsome stranger's story. But when the truth comes out, has Rachel the courage to stand by her man?

The Homestead Brides Collection - Review
The Homestead Brides Collection: 9 Pioneering Couples Risk All for Love and Land - Mary Connealy,DiAnn Mills,Erica Vetsch,Kathleen Y'Barbo,Darlene Franklin,Carla Olson Gade,Ruth Logan Herne,Pam Hillman,Becca Whitham

This collection delivers on its promise of "nine pioneering couples risk all for love and land." With all nine stories set in the American frontier of the 1880’s, there are certain commonalities. Snowstorms, soddies, hard work, land disputes, fighting the elements and fighting attraction are each characteristics of more than one story. But common to all are faith in God that is strengthened, renewed, or begun and couples coming together out of love or necessity or both.

A full review with a brief description and review of each story is on my Wordpress blog http://wp.me/p5Tcfi-1K

This is a strong collection of Christian Romance that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction and sweet, clean romance set in a rugged and unforgiving frontier.

Footsteps
Footsteps - DiAnn Mills Very well-written, suspenseful story that women, especially, will enjoy. The story tugs at your heart strings and keeps the reader guessing at how the many problems will be resolved, or if they will. Though I generally prefer more action, I enjoyed Footsteps.
