The V girl - Mya Robarts

description
https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/im...
Sebastian Rolli as Aleksey Fürst. (Thanks Michelle for telling me the name of this hot dude)

description

Re-read: Amazon sent me a letter to update the book. Love it EVEN more the second time.

First and foremost. I DON'T WANT IT TO END! I WANT MORE PLEASE!!!!!

Thank you Mya Roberts for writing this beautiful, epic LOVE STORY.

Now the theme itself is so HORRIFYING that for a while I debated whether I wanted to read the book or not. Usually rape is not something I want to read. In fact I read the reviews of the V girl first before reading and most of them were accurate, rape is not something that we get to see graphically . I can't stand rape. I just can't. But the INTELLIGENT, MATURE, ALMOST POETIC approach the author used to tackle this difficult topic was brilliant. There's rape, the blurb says as much but it's more than a menace, a threat to the people who live in this world. 90% of the book the story is more about the Heroine's fight, about her feelings, not about rape for the sake of bringing drama. Nothing like game of thrones style.

It's sad to think that The V girl society is very realistic. I think our own society has come to accept rape and abuse as something that can't be avoided. From where we stand as society where rape culture is fed on us daily to the moment a society like this becomes a reality...i'm sad to think about it but it may happen. it seems like whenever there's war there's crime. Looting, Murder, torture, rape, slavery. Honestly just see what Hitler did. I'm sure his high comanders had green card to do whatever they wanted to the people they oppressed. Countless of TV shows, movies and books talk about torture and murder during war. They never talk about rape and that's sadly the reality every women of every country that has been invaded has to live. For them or for someone they know.

There's PLOT

YOU HEAR ME PLOT

and subplots too. There's a good story here that made me cry, laugh, throw my kindle to the garbage (literally) swoon REPEATEDLY.

Swoon? why?

Because ALEKSEY FURST! A SOLDIER WHO DOES WHAT'S RIGHT! what the other soldiers should do. PROTECT PEOPLE and he wasn't expecting to fall in love with Lila but he did. It's a very difficult situation for this couple. On the one hand she FOR OBVIOUS REASONS hates soldiers. On the other hand IT'S PROHIBITED TO HAVE A FOREIGN AND AN AMERICAN getting married and the punishement is torture. (rape? no problem. Love? heaven forbid! how come?)

But aleksey fights his way to get Lila's heart, he changes for her, he risks everything for her, and little by little she'll find that Aleksey is not her enemy. He's there to LOVE HER not to take advantage of the situation.

Would he gain her heart and have the honor to be the one who deflowers the heroine?

There's plenty of sex. yes but it's portrayed in a way that fits the plot perfectly.

And when you reach the 85% mark you'll be ready to cry and soak your kindle. Its that dramatic. And what comes next is horrifying.

But thanks god there's something that Roberts had in store for us that we weren't expecting. A HEA just when things looked to be going for the worst, just when I thought happiness wasn't possible, I learned that there's hope and I ended up smiling. It was so beautiful.

Now a warning. The book is BRUTAL, HORRIFYING AND NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. It's super dark and for your sake if you're squimish I suggest you skim or even avoid chapters 53 and 54. I'll repeat AVOID CHAPTERS 53 AND 54 if you're squimish. They're brilliant but not for the faint of heart. Even so I think Roberts did a great job in presenting a scene like that only when was needed. She didn't overuse the horror of the situation to bring more drama. I think it was beautifully handled.
I'm a fan and I'm recommending this book to everyone on my list.

No cheating and inspiration for other authors.
Transcendence - Shay Savage

Update 09-01-2017 A famous author whose name I won't mention because her fans are scary ;) borrowed heavily from this SELF-PUBLISHED book. Anyone who loves the words "my mate" repeated endlessly should read this book

Update October 11th. I wish more people knew about this book because I found no cheating and no slut shaming. Books that don't promote violence on women like Transcendence and are still steamy and compelling deserve more love.
Jared Padalecki as shaved Ehd

ORIGINAL REVIEW

description

Before I write my review of Surviving Raine it's fair that I review one of my 2015 favorites. I re-read Trascendence because I wanted to have a feel of the author's style before I dived into Survaiving Raine. My conclusion? I'm a huge fan Of Mrs. Savage. (Update Oct 10th, Not anymore after I tried her scifi books and read the spoilers for Surviving Raine sequels , but this book is fantastic)

We meet Ehd, a caveman who lives in the Ice-Age. He's also the loneliest man on the planet. He lost his tribe to a fire, all his family. He has struggled to survive these rough times. He doesn't have much of a life. He's SURVIVING. He hadn't seen another human being for a long time and Ehd's starting to think that he'll be alone forever.

A modern-day girl named Elizabeth appears magically. It's never clear how that happens but you can imagine the 20000 years age of cultural differences that separte these soon-to-be-couple. Ehd is determined to mate with her and surely you understand all the sexy implications of that decision.
description

Or should I say instict? Because Ehd is a very primitive man whose actions are driven by instict and eventually by LOVE.

description

description

He'll provide for her, he'll protect her from harm and he'll put a baby on her. A baby! That's cute and sexy at the same time.

description

What I love about this book is that we are all the time on Ehd's mind and his train of thought is amazing. He's naive, but strong, and he falls in love hard for his mate. He's extremely repetitive. My mate, I have to provide for my mate, she is my mate my mate is weird, I want my mate with me, I have to protect my mate . It's really primitive, cute and charming at the same time.

description

I love how this couple falls for each other slowly, how they solve their cultural differences and how, what started as a very instictive desire (I have to put a baby on her) ended up in a love that TRASCENDS THE TIME. Love trascends everything. I think just the title was so full of promise and the book delivered.

The steamy scenes are full of that longing, cuteness and awkwardness of two virgin people who are learning to love. That's the reason I read New Adult and Classic romance. This kind of storyline is always so romantic because it's like inexperience is another burden for a couple to overcome and when they do it correctly is always so romantic. Beh and Ehd journey to survive the harsh times they live in and at the same time discover love is one of the best I've read. It's beautiful.

My only minor complain about the book is that perhaps just a little less sex would have worked better for me, and a I wish there had beem a little bit of Beh's perspective. That would have made a huge difference in an already-awesome-book, but at the end I don't care. I just started to try to put bookmarks on my favorite lines and without meaning it, I ended up re-reading the whole book. FOR THE THIRD TIME. I have a lot of homework and tons of books to read, but couldn't stop. That's how much I love this book and why is one of 2015 favorites.

I have to appreciate how cute this story was and I can't describe it in words properly. I just love how original this is. No billionaires, no tattoed boys, no clones of Anastasia steele or aby abernathy OR bELLA Swan. The two characters feel real and refreshing. You have to suspend disbelief a lot, because some times Ehd is just too perfect and the traveling from one age to the other is not explained, but who cares? The book is an incredibly, fast-paced journey.

If you haven't read this book, what are you waiting for? Even if you don't like fantasy book and prefer a contemporary setting perhaps you will enjoy Shay Savage's contemporary romances. I know I did.

Erotica/New Adult and don't believe any booktuber who calls it Young adult.
A Court of Mist and Fury - Sarah J. Maas
Read 2 times. Last read April 16, 2017.

descriptionUPDATE APRIL 17TH ADDING PARENTAL GUIDANCE AND SAFETY WARNINGS because kirkus reviews, some GR librarians and most booktubers won't tell you the truth.
This is an EROTICA BOOK, not a YA book.

I repeat: THIS BOOK IS AN EROTICA BOOK, not a YA book. Or maybe you can call it an in-between ADULT AND UPPER YA meaning . NEW ADULT BOOK, plus it has certain influence from self-published Paranormal romance ( Shay Savage's Transcendence? Anyone?) so yes this is new adult at its best.

The sex scenes are the most descriptives ever in a book marketed falsely as YA. Meaning that there's no fade to black at any description of sexual activity. Think of Transcendence, Fifty shades of grey and Archer's voice kind of level of graphicdescription

So don't think the sex scenes of A court of mist and fury are on the same level of PG "graphic sex-scenes" found in reads such like Clockwork Princess, Opal, The fault in our stars, Graceling, Breaking dawn, City of heavenly fire and other upper young adult reads. I'll repeat The sex scenes in ACOMAF are closer to Fifty shades, Transcendence and the immortal after dark series because again: NO FADE TO BLACK during the most intense, schmexy, making love moments Kirkus reviews, some GR librarians and anyone who tells you the contrary is lying.

*********PARENTAL GUIDANCE triggers ***********
AGE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS: Heroine is 20, the rest of the cast is a gazillion years old.

SEX/NUDITY 10 out 10 As I said before no fade to black during the schmexy moments, no metaphores, no sensual imagery but the straight vivid image of nudity and sex. I won't mention all the moments because there are too many, but I'll tell you where you'll find the most descriptive in the american hardcover version: You can read some of them in my updates:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1493972253

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD
Pages 21, 22

A  faery woman is descriptively fingered by someone different than the hero, then she has descriptive sex, then oral, descriptions of the fluids and the nudity and the action in vivid detail.

Pages 471, 472, 473, 474. 475

A faery woman is fingered to orgasm by the heroe(different guy from the pages 21-22), partial nudity, but this scene takes a quite few pages and it's an erotic scene, not just a sex scenes, but the purpose seems to be to be to turn on the reader.

Pages 530, 531, 532, 533, the orgasm that shatters the mountains:
A pair of lovers heroine and hero have sex including oral, vidid description of the action, use of the word "cock"

Pages 538 and 539
Vivid descrption of oral (fellatio):P but they call it licking LOL.

I think those are the most detailed graphic scenes. The rest of sex scenes aren't that vivid IMHO but they're still there. Anyone who wants to tell me that I'm exaggerating and that the sex-scenes aren't descriptive or that this book isn't erotica I challenge you: If you're an adult Read aloud the content of these pages to a group of underage kids and see if you don't find yourself in trouble. If you aren't, read it to your parents and see if you don't blush.

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 out of 10
Descriptions of torture to Fae people, to humans, PTSD symptons, portrayal of an abusive relationship, brief mention of gang rape, nothing graphic,
it was part of the background of one of the main characters: Descriptive action scenes, where some fae people die.

PROFANITY 10/10
Multiple penis references, the use of the word cock (BTW, you'll never find the word "cock" in Fifty shades books) multiple F bombs, sexual terms, some cursing

SUBSTANCE USE
In this "fantasy" world there are shops and night clubs, imagine like a fantasy modern big city, so there are pubs. The MC's drink for fun and go to dance in those night clubs.

SAFETY ISSUES This is for my friends who prefer readings with no cheating no OW (other woman) and OM (other men)

This is for my friends who prefer readings with no cheating no OW (other woman) and OM (other men) <spoiler> As I said in page 20-21 we have a very descriptive sex scene of heroine with other man. That's because in book 1 the hero was Tamlin and he got engaged with heroine, but most readers including me were rooting for Rhysand the villain, so that scene is hard to stomach. Tamlin becomes a jerk and Feyre flees, but there's a little bit of Feyre inner thoughts thinking she is being disloyal to Tamlin when she starts to fall for Rhysand. So there's this kind of love triangle going on. We know she won't back to Tamlin but there's still this kind of doubts,
nothing super trianglish, but there. Not totally free of the triangle

Conclusion
Honest question. I'm not a supporter of censorship, but like my friend Stephanie says: If there's a PG rating for movies... why not for books? I'm not against kids reading sex. I'm against fake marketing and lack of warnings. Children's bloomsbury should have added warning of sexual content in the cover of this book, on the blurb and market it as an adult book. If kids wants to read Fifty shades of grey I'm no one to judge, they already know what they will encounter. But diving into ACOMAF not knowing that there's EROTIC scenes because a famous booktuber "forgot" to add warnings at the beginning of her non-spoiler review or because Kirkus deems the EROTIC scenes appropiate for 14 years old or because Booktopia (Australian book retailer) labels this book as appropiate for 12 YO readers is just wrong IMHO. But whatever! I still love this book.

***************PREVIOUS UPDATES AND ORIGINAL REVIEW**********************
Update: This should be easily the best New adult read of 2016. This book is New adult, not Young adult. Clearly the best YA book this year is Lady Midnight, I hope readers vote correctly so both books have a chance to get a well-deserved prize. Lady Midnight is YA and ACOMAF is NA and the best book of 2016.

Ian as Rhys!

description

I'll start this review with warnings and some might be a little bit spoilery, but you need to have this information to really appreciate the beauty of this book.

description

description

You might hate this book if:
* You were seriously rooting for Tamlin and Fayre.
* You don't like Rhys.
* You hate love triangles and don't get fooled or deceived by the most voted goodreads review. This is totally a love triangle as far as this book goes, but I'll explain later why I think this works.
*(view spoiler) This is Sarah J Maas, we knew she was going to do this, it was hinted all over the first book.
* You prefer plot-driven books, over character-driven books. This book is more about the evolution of the characters, the building up of the relationships and it's not for lovers of complicated plot and action scenes and adventure. This book is more about romance, backstory and relationship building. I loved that! Give me more of that. Plots are overrated. I need relationships, I need emotions.
* If you were too attached to the storylines of the first book. (view spoiler)
* If you hate long books.
* If you hate when NA books are marketed as YA. That's so common lately.

Having said all that.
We have a winner!
description

I'll admit that the first book wasn't stellar. It was good, but nothing special. This one, my friends? I couldn't put it down. The first part of the book for some reason didn't appeal to me. I don't know why. I was struggling through it. I think this is a book that you need to read slowly, in your bed, preferably with a furry pet and a cup of coffee near you. Its Sarah J. Maas vivid imagination and beautiful prose at her best. I think some people will find her style slow and overdescriptive, but that's the beauty of this book. You can spend days with it and you don't want it to end. The writing is very good and the story is extremely compelling.

Once I reached the middle part, wow, just wow! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I couldn't and wouldn't stop reading.

It goes without saying that I'm a huge Rhys fan. I kept imagining Ian Somerhalder as Rhys even since the first book and I was so happy to see how relevant he became in this book.

description

How hot are the sex scenes? I read a lot of classic romance and New adult, so I don't think they were graphic. But that's what I prefer. I want the relationship between the couple to evolve, grow and shine before they get into bed. I thought it was good and as a new adult reader that is getting TIRED of the same storylines of new adult, I always welcome a New adult books in other genres, such as fantasy, paranormal steampunk and dystopia. I want Sarah to keep writing sex scenes, just I want a sort of warning for the younger readers? I think that's the ethical thing to do. Seriously publishers and authors: Stop trying to shove sex down the throats of young people. (sounded weird, but it's true) Give a proper warning and then we can enjoy the book better. People who like clean reads, can avoid this one at least be warned that there's sex content, and people who like sex will buy it MORE because sex sells right?. Everyone wins.

Now the love triangle. I was so pissed-off when I read Throne of glass with the switching in love interests that I could never root for Caelena, never got to know her, never got to appreciate her evolution or relate for her.

In this series, and thanks to the AMAZING transformation of Fayre, for the first time, and as much as I love RHys and I want him and Fayre together, I'm rooting for Fayre more. If she ends up alone, if she chooses Tamlin over Rhys, although I hope that's not the case, I'll be fine. I want her to be happy, no matter with whom and that's a first for my romantic, monogamist heart. I usually hate when the couple I'm rooting for doesn't end up together and that's why I hate love triangles, but here I'm not team Rhys, I'm not team Tamlin, I'm team Fayre and I hope that in the third book she gets to keep all the awesomeness she displayed on this one. She became a whole different person, strong and badass.

The ending is such a cliffhanger, but I was expecting that. Usually second books in a series are.

To wrap up my review I only have to say that this book is much better than the first one if you don't belong to any of the categories I mentioned before. Would I recommend this book? Hell yes! but take a look at my list of warnings, if you don't belong to any of the list categories you totally should give a chance to this series. This is, so far, way much better than Throne of glass. It's a whole different level.

I need more of Rhys and Fayre, it's going to be a long wait. Best book of 2016!

UPDATE APRIL 5TH 2017
Apparently the fake marketing is because the publishing company doesn't want the label New adult attached to this book.
Link to reviewers that have mentioned that this book is New adult or erotica for children, I'm including positive and negative reviews

Willing Victim by Cara McKenna
Willing Victim - Cara McKenna

So I've been busy and haven't pushed any reviews out over here for a while, although I've been trying to remember to type small ones in on GR through my phone.

This was a rec from the lovely Whiskey in the Jar because I needed an anxiety distraction, and BOY DID SHE DELIVER.

Flynn is pure goodness, y'all. This book is hot. Like, smoking hot. It does appeal to a very specific kink, so if you're not into that you might not like it. However I was so impressed at how well actual CONSENT is worked into this book. Anyone who says consent isn't sexy is a liar. Flynn proves that over and over, and it makes him all the hotter.

So yeah, thanks Whiskey! You're the best <3.

Great start to a new amazing series!

Cooper,Rail,Brick,Gus,Tess aka Tiger,Peggy,Minnie,Ty,Jace,Morgan,
Cray,Loose,Ray,Clark,Mike,Allen,Zay,
Savi,Langley,Mud,Fin,Ven,TiagoTrigger,
Big Joe

Let's start off by saying this is a new author for me and I loved this story from cover to cover but, "I absolutely HATE reading books with cliffhangers !"

I loved this new MC romance from cover to cover as the story had wonderful characters all very complicated in their own right.Once I started reading the story I was fully enmeshed in it from the very beginning to the very end and never put it down.

I always pick a favorite character in the story to rave about and my choice this time around is going to be Tess.OMG! I loved her what a feisty fireball she was with a huge sense of humor, she was full of spunk, she was sexy, mouthy, had a backbone made of steel, and pure enjoyment to read about.Although Tess is all those things she is haunted by her past as well as being heartbroken and dead inside (a heart of Ice) her beliefs not mine I only saw a survivor and a strong and amazing women to be admired.I loved learning about what brought Tess to the Devil Reach MC Clubhouse.Tess's story was heart wrenching and made me want to cry when I heard it .My heart broke for her and everything she had to go through and deal in her very short life so far.I don't know how she survived it all really.Perhaps Brick helped with that he was Tess's bleak life and I am so glad that she found some kind of solace with her among her chaotic loveless life.A 18 year friendship that lasted the test of time and circumstances.I love their friendship as they were like brother and sister but, so much more.

Trigger OMG! I man with layers! I have to say this man frightened even me,I found him to be tall, dark, handsome, dangerous, protective,
overbearing, also a killer, and also love-able at the same time."Does that make sense?"You have to get to know the broken man first but, once you see how he is with his nephew Fin and Tess you will see for yourself. There is a loving and caring man below the surface even though he thinks he is dead inside but, we see rare glimpses of the heart beating within his chest.Trigger is a character you love to hate but, he makes it impossible not to love this broken man.Circumstances made the Trigger the man we have grown to love but, at the same time I wished he would find just a sliver of happiness for just once in is horrible life."When I say horrible it's beyond anything you can imagine."I believe Tess to be his savior and he hers. Two broken souls find solace in one another. As the pages turned and the story unfolded it seemed that Tess and Trigger became lighter and less tense and perhaps were finally grasping a bit of happiness that each haven't felt in a very long time."I loved seeing how they were with one another."Awe.......I thought these two people were meant for one another perhaps, not to heal bought to offer a peace of solace for one another.

Trigger and Tess's chemistry was of the charts.Holy fanning! Hot Hot hotter ! Their sexual encounters were hot as hell!
"I want some of that bad boy myself."
Holy smokes! Flip your switch for me Trigger! LOL

Overall we loved everything about the story.

We loved the characters, the drama, the mystery, suspense, danger, betrayals and of course the romance.I loved hearing Tess's and Triggers tragic stories of their upbringing lost loves my heart broken for the unfairness life dealt them both.
"It broke my heart time and time again."I loved the climatic ending even though "I hate cliffhangers!"I could not wait to dive into book two and did just that and read that story from beginning to end in one sitting yet again.Love Love Loved it!

Personal note: Ms Drake has gained a new fan of her works.

When is the next release?
I can't wait !

5 stars from us

For Demons Book #2

“If what becomes too much? Minnie…” I tried to grab her hand, but she veered off toward Brick. “I thought it was just an edible, as in pot.”

“Hello again, leather pants.” Rail appeared at my side. “I was wondering when we were going to meet you again.”

Trigger rolled up on his bike. He was in a black t-shirt that hugged his biceps and chest, and dark jeans and boots. His cut seemed a bit tight, a sign he had been working out a lot.

He didn’t remove his sunglasses, but his stare nearly made me trip as I walked over and took the helmet he handed me.

“You look good,” he muttered. “You’ve been missing for the past week.”

“Just dealing with some stuff.”

“I don’t like it.”

“I know.” I flipped my hair back and pulled the helmet on. “Me either.” I swung my leg over the bike and rested my hands on his hips, and he pulled me so I hugged him. He flicked the engine over and backed us out.

An hour later, we hit a wall of traffic and came to a complete stop. That was when I began to notice the leather cut that wrapped Trigger’s midsection was as smooth as lamb skin. As I moved my sensitive fingertips over it, I felt a ball of warmth grow in my belly.

My thighs flexed as Trigger shifted his weight. I didn’t mean to ball his shirt in my hands, but fuck me, everything felt amazing.

“You okay?” His raspy voice caught me off guard, and I jolted on the seat, and oh-my-God, it was amazing. “Tess?”

“Please stop moving,” was all that shot out of my mouth. He flipped up his visor and turned to look at me. I shook my head and moaned as his ass rubbed my front. My jaw clenched, and I started to grind my teeth.

“Put your visor up.”

Oh, shit, don’t get alpha on me. I may lose it right here on the freeway.

I quickly shoved it up and stared into his confused eyes.

“What are you on?”

“Nothing.” I almost moaned when he moved again.

He stared a beat longer before he snapped his visor down and turned back around.

Ohhh, yes. I wanted to tap his shoulder to get him to do that again, but the traffic started to move.

Sweet, horny Lucifer. I’d broken out in a light layer of sweat, and my thighs burned from the grip on the seat. Three hours on the bike, and its vibrations had built me up to a pleasure-painful level. I’d finish myself off if I weren’t surrounded by the crew.

Thankfully, Trigger signaled we were stopping for a break at the next rest stop. We took the exit and rolled up at the light before the small park.

When Trigger kicked his foot out to stabilize us, I grabbed the side of his leg and begged my body to let go.

His hand landed on mine, and I wanted to cry. His touch, his smell, his everything made my world tilt on its axis. I didn’t know how much longer I could hold on.

I was either going to kill someone or have the most mind-blowing orgasm known to woman in public.

The bike slowed to a stop, and he proceeded to wiggle around then slid the length of his leg across me. I tossed my helmet, and my palms dug deep into the hot leather. I felt like I was balancing on the loose rocks that lined edge of my orgasm. I had never not-wanted to come so badly in my life.

My mind shifted to images of Trigger touching me.

Oh, no.

Oh, yes.

Oh, please.

“That’s one major fuck-me face.” Rail burst my steamy moment.

I glared at him, but it did nothing for my problem. “What?”

“Just makin’ an observation.”

“Observate somewhere else.”

“Yeah, you probably need to finish that off.” He wiggled his fingers and winked.

I closed my eyes and managed to channel my thoughts back to being underneath Trigger. His hands on my skin, his lips on my neck, his…

A shadow crossed my face and blocked my warmth. “What did you take?”

A deep jolt tore through me as my mind decided if it he was real or not.

“Please,” I nearly panted. “Don’t talk.” I rubbed my hands down my pants. The leather was warm and sent goosebumps through me.

“What?”

“I’m not entirely sure, as this is the first time I ever took ecstasy, but I think I took ecstasy.”

He blinked “Where did you get E?”

Bestselling author J. L. Drake was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, later moving to Southern California where she lives with her husband and two children.

When she’s not writing, she loves to spend time with her family, travelling or just enjoying a night at home. One thing you might notice in her books is her love for the four seasons. Growing up on the east coast of Canada the change in the seasons is in her blood and is often mentioned in her writing.

An avid reader of James Patterson, J.L. Drake has often found herself inspired by his many stories of mystery and intrigue.

She hopes you will enjoy her stories as much as she has enjoyed writing them.
