Heart of Evil - Heather Graham

I am ridiculously fond of the Krewe of Hunters series. The first one I read was The Night Is Forever, which is in the middle of the series, and I was hooked on these paranormal mysteries. I'm now going back and catching the ones I've missed.

This particular book takes place in New Orleans, and in the bayou country on the fictional Donegal plantation. After a Civil War reenactment, one of the participants disappears. Ashley Donegal, daughter of the plantation owner, knows something is wrong -- but police won't listen ... until the man turns up dead. More deaths, of course, ensue.

The Krewe of Hunters, a special FBI behavioral analysis unit, are brought in because plantation owner Frazier Donegal is friends with their director ... but the ghosts only want to talk to krewe member Jake Mallory. And he's Ashley's ex-boyfriend.

The twists and turns in the tale are many, and the whodunnit took me by surprise (that's a rarity). It was a bonus to see characters in the books walking NOLA streets that I love.

Quite an entertaining read.

And I live in the South..
Heart of Evil - Heather Graham

As a matter of fact there was a re-enactment near here less than a month ago!

This is one scary book and I love it.

Set in Louisiana, but could be anywhere that people remember the past.

TBR Thursday #39
Fire & Chasm - Chelsea M. Campbell
Insylum - Z. Rider
Gathering Deep - Lisa Maxwell
The Darkness Within - Kelly Hashway
A Thorn Among the Lilies (An Alvin, Alabama Novel) - Michael Hiebert
Evil Games - Angela Marsons

Moonlight Reader started the TBR Thursday, and I think it's a good way to a) show what new books I've got and b) confront myself with my inability to lower my TBR. In fact, since I started recording it, it has risen significantly. I get the feeling I'm doing something wrong here...

So many books, so little time...

Evil at Heart
Evil at Heart - Chelsea Cain

Evil at Heart is the third novel by Chelsea Cain about Gretchen Lowell, a female serial killer.

I've read the first two books as well, and just like the others, this one was nice to read. The writing style ant the story are very fast and there is a lot of suspense in the story. The relationship between Gretchen and Archie turns weirder and weirder, but is quite interesting to follow. For me, these are like snack-books I read between bigger/better books, but it is still nice to read every once in a while.

Note: I read a Dutch translation of this book
