Watching Her: A Dark Romance (Keep Me Series Book 3) by Angela Snyder
Watching Her: A Dark Romance - Angela Snyder

Wowza! Jackson was just W-O-W! He was such an adorable dork with the right amount of sexiness and lots of sweet appeal. Honestly, what I loved the most about him was that he didn’t behave like an overbearing alpha and was always happy to be there for those that trusted him. The story itself was intense, exciting, and gripping. Although this is the 3rd book in the series and it’s set parallel to the first two, it can still be read as a standalone. Be warned though, you’re going to want to read the first two once you get to know Jax.
So, despite his kinks and voyeurism, Jax has some personal issues that prevent him from truly loving someone. It isn’t until he meets strong, determined Katya, a woman with her own dark past, that he allows himself to develop feelings for someone.
Katya is my kind of heroine: self-reliant, clever, and compassionate. Of course she could also be stubborn but overall she was understanding and was able to keep a level head at the most critical times.
In short, Jax and Katya are now in my top 5 favorite couples, and I totally recommend this book.

Review: The Bad Girl and the Baby (Cutting Loose #3) by Nina Croft
The Bad Girl and the Baby (Cutting Loose) - Nina Croft

Darcy has a painful past. She thinks she failed her sister and now she’s trying to make it up by making sure her sister’s daughter, Lulu is living a happy and safe life. The only problem is that Lulu’s guardian, uptight, ultra-organized, ex-SAS, Capt. Matt Peterson won’t allow her to even visit her. Now Darcy needs to find a way to convince him that being a tattooed ex-con is not as bad as it seems.

I loved Darcy’s kick-a$$ character! I think the author did an excellent job of portraying the true nature of her character. She was tough and protective yet showed glimpses of vulnerability at exactly the right moments. Even when she was unsure or feeling susceptible, she still went ahead and made the tough decisions.
Matt on the other hand cracked me up half of the time. He was supposed to be this stiff, uptight, almost super-soldier but when it came to Lulu and Darcy… well, let’s just say he became someone else entirely different but not in a bad way. He and Darcy formed some kind of bond, that as much as they tried to deny it existed, or not give it a name, worked excellent for me because it was that openness and honest attitude from both of them that made their nameless relationship work; as long as their meddlesome friends were not trying to dictate their lives.
Argh! That really annoyed me, though! Darcy and Matt’s friends were always telling them how bad they were for each other and how much damage each would cause to the other. I mean, seriously, consenting adults? At least in the end, friends served their purpose and proved that without them life would not only be boring but also so much harder and lonely.

It’s not very often I connect this well with characters but this book was something else. Even Lulu was a delight to read. Those that have dealt with little kids will immediately understand and chuckle at what the characters had to go through with little Lulu.
It’s not very often I give 5 stars to books either but I think this one warrants it. There simply was nothing I didn’t like; if anything I could re-read this book just for the sheer pleasure of reading it again.

Arc Review: Resurrection (Redemption Harbor Series #1) by Katie Reus
Resurrection (Redemption Harbor Series Book 1) (Volume 1) - Katie Reus
Action-packed, romance-filled, and riveting to say the least; this story will grab you from page one!

CIA agent Skye fakes her own death to protect her partner and lover Colt Stuart and all those he holds dear. She’s never stopped loving him and knows she hurt him deep but she’s also sure what she did was for the best. When a dear friend of Colt is kidnapped she sees her rescuing as an opportunity to somewhat make it up to him, and although he might never know it was she who rescue his friend, she still goes for it. What she didn’t account for was that Colt would find out she didn’t die and once he did he wouldn’t let her go ever again. Not only that but he would go to extremes to protect her and never have to lose her again.

OMG! This story! To me it had one of the best opening convos ever! It was funny while setting the pace for what was coming. Sky was one of the most assertive, self-confident, witty, and cool heroines I’ve ever read. Kudos to the author for giving me such an awesome character. Colt is your typical self-assured and overprotective alpha CIA agent that will do anything to protect those he loves (and I mean AN-NY-THING), however what’s great about his relationship with Skye is that he sure as hell knows Skye’s boundaries and as the gracious and romantic lover he is, he also knows how to make her feel safe and cared for.

The dynamics between the friends was heartwarming and was pulling my heart strings at every corner. As a reader I could feel how much they really cared for each other. Once the “mission” is officially over we are immediately introduced to the next one and luckily we don’t have to wait too long as the second installment will be out within the next few months. This story was the perfect introduction to the series and if it’s any indication of what the whole series will be then we sure are in for a heck of a ride.

I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.

The Devils Who Would be King (Royal Pains #4) by Nina Mason 4/5 stars
The Devils Who Would Be King (Royal Pains) (Volume 4) - Nina Mason

Last one in the Royal Pain series and they must be read in order. It started a bit slow but it sure ended with a BANG!

Our hero Robert is away on an assignment by the King on England, missing his lovely wife like the devil and risking his life for King and country. Maggie, as the dutiful wife she is, stays behind dreading the day she may receive news that Robert is never coming back.

Ok, so I have to say I had loved this series because although it was high in eroticism it also stayed on the path of true romance when it came to Robert and Maggie. Those two had a relationship very different from anything I had ever read before. They were possessive and protective of each other but at the same time they let each other be and explore their own romantic, sexual, and whatever needs. That still rings true in this book however I felt that while Robert was putting his life on the line, Maggie was too content living the court life and in a way forgetting about Robert. Later, the story takes a turn for the better, IMO and it switched back to what I had always loved about this series. It had scandal, duplicity, espionage, power-hungry nobles, and of course a couple that was willing to face everything as long as they were together. In the end, everything was tied up perfectly in a way that only this author could have achieved.

I wouldn’t recommend it for those that like clean, sweet romances but I dare say it is for those that like erotic stories with historical accuracy.

Not Quite a Duke (Duke's Club #6) by Eva Devon
Not Quite A Duke (Dukes' Club Book 6) - Eva Devon

This was such a fun read. It was one of those that even though it got in my nerves and made me roll my eyes several times it also made me want to keep turning the pages to know what was going to happen next. The author was able to combine humor, romance, and poetry all into one well-written love story.

I always try to connect to the books I read and I try to understand where the characters are coming from to have a better understanding of their behavior and the story itself. In the case of lady Patience, her attitude reminded me so much of myself at one point in my own life. I suppose that’s not here nor there but there was also something about her that that still rang true to this day. She wasn’t made out to be the epitome of beauty or with a body “made out to sin” and when she and Lord Charles met he flatly judges her as a woman in despair, not even giving her the chance to show him how smart she really is. That is something I believe many women still encounter these days.

Ah, but how gratifying it was that this “damsel in distress” got to set him straight and let him know that she actually didn’t need him at all. I believe I can nominate Lady Patience as one of the best historical feminists I’ve ever read.

“The arrogance of him to suppose he would know what was best for her. Then again he was a man.”

Dear Charles was a rake of the best kind of course *wink wink* Despite his faux pass with Patience, he was a charming character. He had a dark secret and to hide it he became the debauched man everyone knew him to be. Of course, Patience had no patience for anyone like him because what woman in her right man would trust a man like him?

As the story progresses and they are forced into doing things they may not have done in other circumstances, their relationship proves to be worth fighting for.

“But she was a goddess. His goddess. And since he’d longed to kneel and worship before her, having her declare that he belonged to her suddenly made him feel like an acolyte being praised by his deity… In short, it was rare and absolutely glorious.”

I love it when an author is able to turn simple words into poetic writing. Miss Devon is able to capture the feelings and thoughts of all her characters in such words that any other time I’d thought them corny but right here they are most definitely not.

And, to finish my feminism rant: there was something about the second half of the book that I felt missed the mark because I didn’t want Patience to be rescued, however later I understood that given the times she wasn’t being rescued but she was actually being granted some kind of freedom (You’ll get this when you read the book because I kind of paraphrased it from it ;) )

Definitely a great read and I recommend it to all historical romance lovers.
