The Bad Ones - Stylo Fantome

*Book source ~ Kindle Unlimited

Rating ~ 4.5

“You’re not the bad guy in this story,” He whispered

“I know. I know that’s not what you’re saying.”

“And neither am I.” He continued

“I know.”

We are,” he said, finally looking right at her.

“Both of us. We’re the bad ones. Together.”

Dulcie is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Living in the trailer park with a prostitute mother, a drug dealing step-dad and a junkie half-brother; she has resigned herself to the fact that she will never leave her small West Virginia town. Con is the high school golden boy. He lives in a monstrous home with his Mayoral father, checked-out trophy wife mother and is the star quarterback of their high school football team. Dulcie spends her days hiding away in her sketchbook, trying to fly under the radar and go unnoticed. Little does she know that Con has been watching her, waiting for his time to strike. What happens when a chance encounter, alleged arson and a costume party brings these two together? You think you know this story, I promise you do not.

Stylo Fantome blows it out of the water, yet again for me. Prepare for a bumpy ride, that will leave you wondering what the hell is wrong with you for rooting for these two characters. On the surface this looks like a story that has been told time and time again, but never has it been told like this. Ms. Fantome gives us two dark, sociopathic characters who bring out the best, or is it the worst, in each other. Thriving on their lust for destruction and one another, they are beyond redemption, and neither is looking for it. My only complaint in this tale is the speed with which these characters lay claim to one another, i would have enjoyed more build up and interaction between these two. They know very little about each other but recognize their own darkness in the other’s reflection. Con and Dulcie feed off of one another, leaving a trail of lies, heartbreak and blood behind them. With steamy sex, graphic violence and plenty of turns, this is not a book for the faint of heart. However, if you are looking for something that will keep your attention, make your heart race and make you question your own morals, this is the book for you!

Wicked Wednesday
Iron Dominance - Cari Silverwood

Wicked Wednesday ~ Guest Reviewer

4 Stars

*Book source ~ Kindle Unlimited

Claire is a 'Frankenstruct', composed of cloned parts and created as a government weapon. Trained from 'birth' to be an assassin, Claire is no stranger to violence and death. She has been conditioned to give nothing away, remain calm and alert in every situation; that is until her air ship is shot down on her first mission. Dragged from the rubble she meets Theo, a tall, dark and super sexy ex-colonel and nobleman. Though Frankenstructs are viewed as not being human, Theo disagrees with this assessment. Instead of sending her off to be 'euthanized',  as is protocol in the territory, he has her brought to his estate to heal and discover her secrets.

Claire has spent her whole life believing she was nothing but a thing, making her doubt Theo's intentions and feelings towards her. She is rightfully cautious not to reveal too much about her past, or the target of her mission, letting Theo think she is just a bodyguard.  With her Boss MIA and her fate uncertain she walks a fine line between submission to Theo's Dominance and protection of her identity. Everything comes to a head when her Boss shows up, calling on her to kill her mark. Will Claire tell Theo the truth of who she is and risk losing the only person who has made her feel human? Or will she carry out her mission in secret, hoping he never discovers what she really is?

I will be honest, I did not have very high expectations for this book. I figured it would be a good steamy read, BDSM and Steampunk erotica? Sign me up! I am happy to say that Ms. Silverwood surprised me. The writing was superb, something I do not tend to find in erotica. Too often authors jump right into the sex, with very little build up. Ms. Silverwood however, spends time focusing on the build up, on Claire's reactions to Theo's looks, touches and kisses. You can feel Claire's confusion, surprise and desire warring with one another in each interaction she has with Theo. Ms. Silverwood spends time building up the sexual need within each scene, making you ache right along with Claire. I do wish we got to spend more time in the world outside of Claire and Theo, and delve a little deeper into their characters, and how they came to be. However, I do understand, for the sake of the plot, that these characters had to hold parts of themselves back from one another. Overall it was an exciting read with fun gadgets, steamy sex and a unique plot!

When my husband saw I had a mystery for review (he loves mysteries) that I wouldn't be able to get to for awhile he said he would review it if he didn't have to actually write the review. So, here is our collaborative review effort on the book he read that I haven't had time to read yet. I bet Catherine Dilts didn't know she was going to be our guinea pig when she sent me the book. :) This should be interesting...
