4 STAR Review! Lure Academy by Cara Wylde!

This complete edition contains all 6 books of Lure Academy. It’s the full story of curvy Sophie and her hot partners, Kain and Alexi. Together, they fight demons, unveil ancient secrets, and have a crazy good time. No cliffhangers!

Lure Academy. A place ruled by demons of love and lust. A place where cambions – the offspring of incubi and succubi – come to learn how to control their powers and use them to protect mankind. Lure Academy is the only place that curvy, insecure Sophie can finally call home.

Sophie’s first day at the Academy is equally exciting and frightening. She will attend the Midnight Ceremony and choose a mentor who will help her tap into her hidden magic. The problem is that the second she meets hot, dangerous Kain and sexy, mysterious Alexi, Sophie realizes it will be impossible for her to make up her mind. What if she chooses both of them? Would it be too much for her, as a young, inexperienced apprentice, to handle?

Kain and Alexi are the best cambions Lure Academy has. They’ve been secretly attracted to each other for months, and now it so happens that they want the same thing: to possess Sophie. Will she bring them together, or tear them apart? Every time the three of them meet, sparkles fly and the air around them becomes heavy with desire.

This book contains M/M and M/M/F action, explicit language and sizzling hot scenes that might set your Kindle on fire. Intended for readers 18+.

Lure Academy is a wonderfully different and super-hot read! Sophie, Kain & Alexi are strong, compelling characters full of depth and they easily lure readers into their story. The relationship between these three is complex as Alexi and Kain tip toe around their attraction to each other and neither seem to be aware of the reasons that they both want to mentor Sophie in her new lifestyle. The romance is sweet at times, full of volcanic passion and turbulent emotions that keep the relationship on rocky ground, especially as outside influences on personal demons add to the tension.

The plot is fast paced and mostly about the relationship between the threesome and Sophie’s introduction to the world of cambions, but there is plenty of thrilling suspense as the threesome are sent on Sophie’s first mission and secrets come to light. Although readers may feel that there should have been a bit more to the story or that there is something missing in places, the author has created a fascinating world with some unique elements that adds to the reading experience and ensures that readers keep turning the pages.

Book Review of Haunted by the King of Death (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Book 11) by Felicity Heaton
Haunted by the King of Death (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Book 11) - Felicity E. Heaton

A ruthless vampire warrior, Grave Van der Garde rules the mercenary Preux Chevaliers with an iron fist, determined to retain his hard-won position as one of the most powerful men in Hell and his reputation as the heartless King of Death. But beneath the cold façade beats the heart of a vampire torn between love and hate, ripped in two directions by a single ethereally beautiful female—his fated phantom mate.

Driven by her phantom instincts, Isla used a spell to make her solid in order to deceive the vampire who killed her sister’s demon mate and have revenge on him, condemning him with a single kiss to become a phantom too. But her plan took an unexpected turn when she fell in love with him, and with her new life, and the night she betrayed him shattered both of their hearts. Now, he lives to make her suffer through their connection, one that is fading with them as they begin to slip into the phantom world, and she must face the monster she created if she is to save herself and the vampire she still loves.

With a demon from Grave’s past determined to destroy him and everything he holds dear, and the clock ticking down to their inevitable doom, can he and Isla overcome their past and their pride to work together to secure the future they both desire deep in their hearts? Or will death finally catch up with the vampire king and his phantom mate?

Review 5*

This is the eleventh book in the Eternal Mates series. I loved it!

Isla is a likable character. She was first introduced to the reader in the ninth book, Possessed by a Dark Warrior as Queen Melia's advisor though she is her sister. She also happens to be a phantom who has taken a solid form in order to avenge the death of her sister's husband. However, it doesn't exactly go to plan and she ended up falling for Grave. After breaking her own heart she had her revenge, but things are not that easy and a century later, she finds that they are both fading. Now she needs to convince the vampire to help her stop it.

Grave Van der Garde is a strong alpha type character. I really liked him. He is a warrior and leader of the Preux Chevaliers, a mercenary group of vampires living in Hell who fight for the highest bidder. He fell in love with Isla but now he feels betrayal and hate towards her after she left him a century before. Unfortunately, he cannot forget her due to their bond. However, when danger threatens his family he reluctantly agrees to help Isla.

I absolutely love the Eternal Mates world. I started to read this book and I was quickly pulled in. It kept me riveted from beginning to end.

The story is told through the eyes of Grave and Isla, which gives the reader a chance to see and feel as they do. We also get to meet a few old faces from the Vampirerotique series, since Grave is a cousin to Snow (yum!) and Antoine. It was nice to see the whole lot of them again at the theatre to be honest. We are also introduced to Grave's brothers, Night and Bastian. As they only have cameo roles for the most part, I wonder if they will have their story told one day?

The heat between the main characters blazed white hot. There is a fine line between love and hate after all. Their chemistry is explosive and explicit. I must admit that I was surprised at Grave's reaction during one scene when he and Isla met the phantom mage, even though I could understand it. Nevertheless, I am glad he managed to see sense in the end.

I love the way the story swept me up and spit me out on a roller coaster ride of emotion. Hell is a dangerous place, and the characters living within it have a strength within them that helps them to survive. However, they also have flaws and fears, which makes them lifelike and relatable.

Felicity Heaton has written another fast paced, sexy paranormal romance that I thoroughly enjoyed! I love her fast paced writing style, which flows effortlessly from scene to scene. She is on top of my favourite author's list.

I do not recommend this book to younger readers due to the extremely HOT and explicit sexual scenes. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love sexy paranormal romances full of vampires, elves, werewolves, cat shifters, succubi, incubi, angels, dragons, demons and demonesses. - Lynn Worton

Audio/Book Review of Nights Embrace (Others of Seattle Book 1) by Brandy L. Rivers
Nights Embrace - Brandy L. Rivers

18+ Adult content

It all started with a song.

Roxana Nights was late to another gig, thanks to her first love, and drummer. It’s been years since she left Jordan, but he won’t let her go. Then she hears a voice that pulls her under a spell and changes her whole world.

Trevor Malone just moved to Seattle with his band. Music is his only passion, until he lays eyes on Roxana. He’s never felt anything as strong as the pull to her. Now he needs to find a way to introduce her to his world.

There’s only one problem. A rival clan won’t rest until they’ve taken Trevor’s down. Unwilling to let old grudges die, they target Roxy. Trevor will do anything to keep her safe.

Roxy learns that the world she writes is closer to reality than she ever imagined, and that not all monsters are evil, though some are ruthless.

Will love stay strong when the past comes out? Can they survive the centuries old vendetta?

Review 4*

I received a complimentary audiobook code from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Others of Seattle series. I really enjoyed it!

Roxana (Roxy) Nights is a really strong character. I liked her kick ass attitude. She is a fantasy author and the lead singer in a group which is called 'Nights Embrace', which also contains her brother Michael (Mikey) and her ex-boyfriend, Jordan. Running late to a gig, Roxy meets Trevor Malone and sparks fly.

Trevor Malone is a wonderful character, who also happens to be a werewolf and the lead singer for 'Lunar Storm'. However, I didn't get an Alpha vibe from him. To me, he's more the lone wolf type, who surrounds himself with misfits as friends; this is not a bad thing, just different to what I was expecting. Other readers may disagree. When he spies Roxy backstage, he's attracted to her, but worried how she will react to his secret. However, danger lurks in the shadows. Can Trevor keep Roxy safe?

This audio book is narrated by John Lane, who did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. I love his clear narration and especially his Irish accent used for Trevor and the other werewolves in the pack.

Having previously read/listened to a few of the Others of Edenton series of books, I was looking forward to listening to this new series (at least to me). I started to listen and I was completely hooked from the first chapter. The story is told through the view points of Roxy and Trevor, but there are a few other characters who have their say. This story is just as fast paced as the first series, Others of Edenton, with several intriguing characters.
Roxy finds out secrets about herself, her brother and her life that completely shocks her, and it was a pleasure watching her deal with her new reality with more maturity than even I would have shown if I was in her shoes. Speaking of maturity or lack of, Jordan comes across as a juvenile jerk, but he does some growing up in this book. His attitude did make me want to bop him one, but he goes through something that changes him. For the better? I hope so. I'm looking forward to find that out.
Mikey is a wonderful character. He is kind and loving and doesn't deserve to have his heart broken by Isadora, but he's in love with her. I'm looking forward to reading his story too.

There are several surprising twists that I didn't see coming and danger lurks in the corners. This story took me on a roller coaster ride of emotion, with lots of danger and action. I loved how the final showdown between William Scarsborough unfolded. It was extremely exciting and it had me sitting on the edge of my seat, though I shed a few tears too. The ending left me looking forward to continuing the series and will read or listen to the next book in the series, Storm Mistress, as soon as possible.

Brandy L. Rivers has written another intriguing paranormal romance series. I loved her fast paced writing style, and the flow was wonderful. Her characters are lifelike and likable. She is now one of my favourite authors.

Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of werewolves, vampires, fae, druids etc. - Lynn Worton

#42 Felici incubi (Reading Challenge 2015 22.10.15/22.10.15)
Felici incubi. Emily - Rob Reger

Review: Among the Living by Jordan Castillo Price
Among the Living (PsyCop) - Jordan Castillo Price

SERIES: Psycop, #1

This novella was a nice surprise. A good balance of mystery, m/m relationship, psychic stuff, paranormal stuff (that I didn’t expect), good dialogue, likable characters, and some smexy times. I think the scope of the story fit the novella length well. It didn’t feel rushed, which is a nice change of pace from some other novellas I’ve read recently. However, I did have some questions that I’ll get to below. It is one of those stories that I can have some issues with but still really enjoy it.

Victor is a Psych. He has the ability to see and talk to dead people which can be handy when you are a homicide cop. The saying “dead people tell no tales” doesn’t really apply when Victor is around (usually). Jacob is a Stiff, or a non-psychic cop. A Psych and a Stiff are usually paired together, however, Victor and Jacob are not partners. They do however, end up working together on a case.

Jacob comes off very confident and knows exactly what he wants and goes after it, which seems to be Victor. Victor, on the other hand, lacks Jacob’s confidence and seems to have a lot of self-doubt. He always seems so surprised at Jacob’s advances and interest in him. I actually had a bit of a hard time seeing Victor as a cop considering his uncertainty and lack of confidence in himself.

So here are some issues I had with the story and things that left me a bit confused.

- Jacob starts hitting on Victor right from the beginning without any warning or build up. It just seems to come out of nowhere. He zeroed in on Victor right away and it left me wondering why. (I've since learned that there is a free short story that is supposed to explain this on the author's website but I haven't read it yet. So why isn't it just bundled with this book? It would make a lot more sense to do that and the readers wouldn't be left wondering. Oh well *shrugs*)

- What was the deal with the mirrors and the eyes? There seemed to be a significance to the mirror fragments and how they were used in the story. They were used in two ways and neither was explained.

- Why couldn’t Victor hear the murdered people? Again, never really explained that I can recall.

- The sex scene at the end was a little hard to follow the way it was written. It was like watching a game of twister – how did he get that hand over there?

So, yes I had some issues with the story but overall I really liked it. The story engaged me (and I’m not even that big a fan of mystery/detective themes). The characters felt well developed for a novella size book. I want more of Victor and Jacob, and even Lisa and Carolyn were interesting. I wouldn’t call this a romance. It had romantic elements but not a true HEA and the characters continue in future books. I wanted to keep reading when it ended and that is always a good sign I enjoyed the book even if I questioned some of it. The story arc and mystery were resolved for this book. A good example of a story that doesn’t need to have a cliffhanger to make you want more, and I definitely want more.

Word Count: 29,000 (Novella)
Kindle Locations: 1597
Story text ends at 1495 (93%)
Includes Table of Contents
Heat Level: Erotic (but not as much as I expected). Door is wide open.
