Kiss of the Rose (Tudor Vampire Chronicles #1) by Kate Pearce
Kiss of the Rose - Kate Pearce

Kiss of the Rose - Kate Pearce

This book reminded me how much I love and miss reading about vampires and legends of old.
Christopher is a man that disguises his family shame with an over the top charming personality and being the best at what he does. Rosalind is a clever woman but is getting tired of having to prove herself as a vampire hunter. These two star-crossed lovers will have to unite forces in order to bring down a common enemy at the same time that a prophecy seems to be taking place and their feelings for each other seem to be more than just unbridled passion.
I loved the world building. I remember reading this story when it first came out and while I remember liking it then I have to say I liked it even more now. The Druids as a historical backdrop was something I hadn’t read before and I liked how it was weaved within the Tudors era. Vampires as Machiavellian beings and not necessarily heroes provided that extra darkness that I like in my PNR.
The thing I didn’t like much was the love triangle that took place in much of the story. I always think it unfair when one of the characters is left as an afterthought just because the object of their affections couldn’t make up their mind and kept dragging the poor guy along. I know it happens IRL but I prefer it wouldn’t happen in my romances. I also thought the prophesy aspect needed more fleshed out. It took me a while to understand it and assimilate how the whole thing tied up in the end. But I think that was a personal problem that I tend to have where prophecies are concerned.
All in all it definitely was a very enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone that loves paranormal mixed with their historical reads.

The Lord of Lost Causes (Millcastle Book 1) by Kate Pearce
The Lord of Lost Causes - Kate Pearce

The Lord of Lost Causes - Kate Pearce

Francis is a man that fell from grace while still a soldier. He’s now a rich man that can be best described as callous, cynical, and mercenary. His relationship with Caroline started as a business transaction and nothing more. While I appreciate the historical accuracy of Caroline’s circumstances I was not happy with the way she was coerced into doing things she most definitely didn’t want to do in order to pay her debts. That part of the story reminded me of the old bodice rippers, when the woman fell head over heels by the “hero” despite him being a jerk.
And yet, I couldn’t bring myself to hate Francis. He might have been a reprobate however, and as much as he tried to deny it, he was also compassionate and just in his own way. In the end, his redeeming qualities outdid his ruthlessness and he became the man Caroline always knew he could be. And what is best is that it was done in a totally believable way.

That being said, I’m not a fan of stories where the heroine must suffer quietly while the man has his way with her and everyone around him. I know, that’s the way things used to be but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

The Bad Boy Cowboy
The Bad Boy Cowboy - Kate Pearce For the Morgan family life is about moving forward, not looking back. Despite the turbulent infighting, the heartbreaking losses and the emotional turmoil, Ms. Pearce has created a family as inspiring as they are flawed. It's only fitting that these rough riding cowboys find their heart's in strong willed women. The Bad Boy Cowboy is HW and Sam's tumultuous romance. Sam is an army vet working her way back from injury, the demons in her head and the fear in her heart. HW is the man determined to bring the hidden warrior out of the darkness and into the light. The scenery isn't always a pretty but the message is as uplifting as they come.

Review: Tempted at Christmas by Kate Pearce, Jane Charles, and Elizabeth Essex
Tempted at Christmas - Kate Pearce,Elizabeth Essex,Jane Charles

I had the pleasure of reading the The Haunting of Castle Keyvnor series and I loved it so much that of course I couldn’t let the chance of reading these stories pass. Although the stories pretty much take place in the same setting they are not wholly intertwined so there is no specific order in which to read the books.

The first story, Elizabeth Essex's A Merry Devil was a mix of a second-chance romance with a thrilling adventure. I particularly liked the way the relationship between the main couple developed and the little detail about the hero’s abilities was hidden until the end that also explained much about his past.
The second story was And a Pigeon in a Pear Tree by Kate Pearce. A mistaken identity of sorts created the perfected setting for a romantic tale where the hero falls for the woman that sees the man and not the title for the first time ever. If only he could forget about the responsibilities that said title represented. This one had me laughing out loud and even though I kind of saw that end coming I was still hoping it ended the way it did.
Last but not least was Jane Charles' His Mistletoe Miss. This was a sweet, clean story –no steamy or graphic sexy scenes- and the one with the most spirits and magical aspects. I thought the enchanted mistletoe was a lovely Christmas touch and the fact that it kept flourishing at the most unexpected times kept the story light.

All in all in was great read and I absolutely recommend it. I will continue reading the series and will read more from each author.

Review For: The Last Good Cowboy by Kate Pearce
The Last Good Cowboy (Morgan Ranch) - Pearce Kate

'The Last Good Cowboy ' by Kate Pearce is book Three in the "Morgan Ranch" series. This is the story of Avery Hayes and Ry Morgan. I haven't read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book.
Ry has a twin brother HW who Ry has been leaving in his shadow it seems. Ry is moving forward to be more independent and taking steps back from HW. That has lead him to return home and to connect back with Avery. Ry has ended his Rodeo Circuit and wants to work on the family ranch more. Avery has always had a crush on Ry but when she was younger and the twin boys were 18 years old a misunderstand of sorts happened. Avery thought she had kissed Ry only to find that it was HW. This has caused hurt feelings with Avery. Now in the present day Avery is trying to deal with the lost of her career after an accident. Ry has decided make a life change also with Avery by moving forward with trying to have a relationship with her. Can they move forward and get past their obstacles to be together?
