Review: Wild Nights by Katherine Garbera
Wild Nights - Katherine Garbera

3.75 stars - Reviewed for Wit and Sin

Magic and Sin City are simply made for each other, just like Nicholas and Zelda. The bright lights of Vegas and the spectacle of Nicholas’s illusions are a dazzling backdrop for a sleek and sexy romance in Wild Nights.

Nicholas and Zelda are both likeable characters with old wounds that their burgeoning romance brings to the surface. Zelda comes from a famous magic family, but after a trick went horribly wrong in her teens, she’s put the world of magic behind her. Mostly. Having changed her name and moved across the country, Zelda can’t quite resist the allure of magic and runs an antique shop that specializes in magic props. Zelda doesn’t want to get sucked back into the world she grew up in, mostly because of the painful memories it brings up. So when sexy magician Nicolas Pine comes to her shop looking for his stolen Houdini water cabinet, Zelda tries to resist her attraction to him. But the pull between them can’t be denied and the longer he and Zelda are together the harder it is for her to tell him the truth about her family.

Love and lies have gone hand-in-hand for Nicholas for so long that he’s always on the lookout for Zelda to betray his trust in some way. With this kind of setup, it’s easy to see the drama coming from a mile away. That being said, the way things played out actually worked pretty well. Both Nicholas and Zelda are self-aware enough to recognize their issues and what triggers them and though there is some expected drama, it still feels fairly organic. The romance between them takes a while to build, then goes full-speed halfway through. I do wish the pacing had been a bit faster in the first part of the book and that the emotional component had been slowed down and allowed to develop more naturally in the second.

Magic and illusions are like catnip for me, so I was very eager to dive into Wild Nights. Once the pacing picked up I enjoyed the story immensely. I haven’t read the first Jokers Wild book, One Night Gamble, but this book easily stands on its own. That being said, I liked Katherine Garbera’s writing enough that I’ll definitely be reading the rest of this series.

ARC REVIEW One Night Gamble by Katherine Garbera
One Night Gamble (Joker's Wild, #1)Jokers Wild #1, Jokers Wild is a new Casino in Las Vegas it's owned by three friends who have been by each other's side since they were kids and they have in their each way made it big. Casey the gambler, Nicholas the magician, and Darien the dare devil; all three of them invested their money together to create a new experience for those coming to Vegas. Talia has spent the last seven years of her life cleaning up her father's mess, an inept gambler, if it wasn't for Talia her grandmother would have lost the house to a loan shark because he used it as collateral. Talia has sworn off gamblers she's concentrating on her job and taking care of her Gran.

Talia has the opportunity to get a really good job managing the social media for the new Jokers Wild casino if she gets this no more working two jobs. Casey isn't looking for anything more than a good time but a chance encounter with a woman not once but three times in one day has him thinking differently. One wild and hot night was all it was supposed to be until the next day when they realize Casey is Talia's new boss.

Talia and Casey's sexual attraction is very strong the chemistry is there, but Talia focus so much on the fact that Casey is a gambler and that is basically the epitome of everything she hates that as the reader I had a hard time seeing anything else in the way of Casey's redeeming qualities besides the sexual attraction. Whereas Casey loved everything about Talia you could tell even when she was being obstinate he still loved her and he was trying very hard to get her to see a future for them. Told in the third person POV you get a omniscient view of both sides of their story.

Overall, it was a very smokin' hot story. I enjoyed the characters and their story and I look forward to Nick and Darien's books.

Good read
Seducing His Opposition - Katherine Garbera

Seducing His Opposition by Katherine Garbera is an entertaining read.  Ms. Garbera has delivered another well-written book.  Justin and Selena's story is loaded with drama, humor and spice, along with a great cast of characters.  I enjoyed reading Seducing His Opposition and look forward to reading more from Katherine Garbera in the future.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book.

Dance With The Devil is book one in the Gods of War series by Katherine Garbera. We get a little suspense and romance.

This is my first experience reading Ms. Garbera. I have to say I did like Dance With The Devil, but it felt like it was lacking a little in the suspense and romance department.

I liked Kaylee, Mick, and the covert ops team that Mick runs. Though the characters weren’t overly impressive and all felt a little flat. I didn’t see any depth into them. No background history and very little is talked about their team or the camaraderie. I like to get to know my characters and I didn’t feel like I got that.

As for the romance well they had the lust, but I never felt the romance. Kaylee and Mick are thrown together and act on their attraction and the stress of the situations. They don’t have time to really get to know each other, to get the deep connection, and yet they both see past all the outer stuff and into the heart of one another. I wasn’t buying into their romance. Lust, yes… They had that. Their moments together where oh so steamy and filled with some tension.

As for the plot well I had an idea within the first chapter on who was betraying Kaylee’s team and the covert ops guys; before it was an indication and found out. The story was slow going, though the heat between the couple was their, but things didn’t get exciting until around the last 80% when Kaylee gets herself kidnapped. (Rolls Eyes) She already new that this team member was betraying them, yet she goes off with said person, alone…

Something else that bothered me was in the beginning after Mick and his team pick up Kaylee’s team. Mick clearly didn’t trust Kaylee or her team. He took their electronics away, but something happens and he lets them have it all back, so that they can do their computer thing even though he has a suspicion that someone on the computer geek team is betraying them. (My thought during this scene was the betrayer can make contact and tell the bad guys the plan.) So why do this when he clearly didn’t trust them???

All and all I wasn’t overly impressed. I enjoyed and had a delightful time reading, but I probably won’t be continuing with the series anytime soon. It wasn’t bad. It was just predicable to me and the characters didn’t make an impression.
