People who don't live with cats don't know this: that if you know them well, their emotions are written large across their faces, if you only care to look.

A legal secretary is not necessarily a secretary who abides by the law, but a secretary who works specifically for an attorney, paralegal, or judge. The qualifications are specialized: one must be capable of performing ordinary secretarial tasks while tolerating whatever brand of mental illness the attorney, paralegal, or judge is suffering. Secretaries who work in the non-legal field may argue with me that mental illness is not exclusive to the legal field. However, like eating disorders and ballet dancing, mental illness and law are a matched pair.
My Boss Is A Serial Killer: A Tale Of Murder, Romance, And Filing - Christina Harlin

This is the first paragraph of the second chapter.

FML....I am only on page 35 of 654 and there are two others in the series sitting on my TBR.

Also this legal secretary totally whiffed on warrants and other very legal documents that the cute detective shoved in her face while she was flaunting her availability and her flirting skills.

If misery loves company, you all are in for quite a night if this book keeps going the way it is.

"Maybe Lori and her husband didn't know that Billy is a nickname for William; maybe they didn't know that tacking 'Jr.' at the end of a boy's name means his name is the same as his dad's—or maybe they knew both, but just didn't care. But whatever the reason, the names Steve and Lori chose for their two baby boys were William and Billy Jr."
The Innocent Killer: A True Story of a Wrongful Conviction and Its Astonishing Aftermath - Michael Griesbach

- "The Innocent Killer" by Michael Griesbach

This has been an interesting read so far. I requested this from NetGalley because I am always interested in books about America's legal system; even when, sadly, things go wrong.

(Really random side note: I finally learned what keys to press to get an em-dash (—). I had no clue how to do it and would usually just use two en-dashes (-). I also never knew that those dashes had specific names as I would just call them big dash and little dash. Oh the random little things that you learn everyday.)

Prolonged separation is a disease. Like a human male, denied feminine companionship over a long period, I suffer a dissipation of wisdom. Intellect loses its keen edge.
Liege-Killer (Paratwa, 1) - Christopher Hinz

Liege-Killer by Christopher Hinz, pg. 304 of 401

Overall, I really like this book, but occasionally I encounter stupid stuff. Like this.

"I had a healthy disrespect for authority, and for as long as I can remember, when someone said 'don't do that,' what I heard was something more along the lines of 'doing that would probably be fun.'"
