A Tale of Two Kitties (Magical Cats, #9)
A Tale of Two Kitties - Sofie Kelly

A solid mystery in a solid series.  Nothing spectacular but a setting and characters you can  lose yourself in and amongst for a quick read when you're looking for a light mystery that's rife with strong friendships and small town charm.

The mystery plotting is solid, or maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention; in retrospect I should have seen straight away what went over my head while I was reading.

Oddly, though I (of course) really like the cats, Owen and Hercules, I find myself more enchanted by their everyday cat antics (Owen's love for Fred the Funky Chicken catnip treats and his hatred of Barry Manilow music, for example), than any of their magical feats.  I don't think cats need the supernatural leg up to make them the stars, although I do wish Kelly would delve more into their origins and what's going on at Wisteria Hill.

A Tale of Two Kitties
A Tale of Two Kitties (Magical Cats) - Sofie Kelly

I've read this series from the beginning, I always enjoy a visit to Mayville Heights and Owen and Hercules never fail to put me under their spell. A Tale of Two Kitties is the perfect addition to this wonderful series, I enjoyed the the exciting plot; a pair of estranged brothers, a love triangle, and a decades old death combine lead to a present day murder, tearing a family apart. I love the extra layer that Kathleen and Simon's friendship adds, that what-if feeling it gives me. I mean, Kathleen and Marcus spend almost no time together. They've been together how long and they haven't moved in together yet? Clearly this relationship is going nowhere. Yes, I'm shipping Simon and Kathleen, make this happen, for Mia's sake. The trove of lost mail discovered behind a wall at the post office was a fun way to tie the story together and add some Mayville Heights history to the story. Combine all of it together and you get a suspenseful and enjoyable cozy mystery with Owen and Hercules saving the day. Irresistible!

My Review of A Tale of Two Kitties
A Tale of Two Kitties - Sofie Kelly

A Tale of Two Kitties by Sofie Kelly is the ninth book in the A Magical Cats Mystery series. When Kathleen finds Mia's grandfather dead, she and her magical cats, Owen and Hercules, have to find out who the killer is before Simon, her good friend and father to Mia, is arrested for the crime.

I had a hard time getting through this book. It was very slow paced, and the writing was choppy. There was far too much description. How someone holds their arms, or tilts their head does not add any value or depth to the story. It became very mundane. The story was very predictable from the start.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

They're still (mostly) staying in the cellar, but at least they're not hiding all of the time.

They both allowed me to give them belly rubs last night, so that was nice.

We're still getting a feel for their personalities, so names just yet.

1 Loss and 2 New Additions

Those of you that are friends of mine on Facebook are probably aware that we lost our cat, Jeffrey, just a few days before Christmas. We did everything we could for him, but his health issues started to cascade and before we knew it, it was all over. Needless to say, the Christmas spirit was NOT strong in our household this year.

RIP Jeffrey

After deciding that we wouldn't get another cat for a long while, then (the next day), deciding that we wouldn't get one until spring, then (the next day), deciding we wanted to get two the next time around, then (the next day), seeing a post about two beautiful kitties needing to be re-homed because their owner was moving, to (a few days later), picking them up and introducing them to their new home, it's been a hectic week.

They are a bit older than this now and we haven't picked out names for them yet, as we're going to wait and see how their personalities develop, but here they are:
