While acknowledging these are escapist "alternate history" genre novels (they all deal with Texas secession in one form or another) this Slate reviewer gets quite heated up by the end of her column. It becomes more of a rant than a review and would probably do better on the op-ed pages than in the book review section. The joy of the book world is that there is something for everyone whether we like it or not. Just sayin'
