review SPOILER ALERT! 2014-03-19 16:11
Amulet Volume 2: The Stonekeeper's Curse
Amulet, Vol. 2: The Stonekeeper's Curse - Kazu Kibuishi

Overall: 4.5 Stars

Star Rating Art:  5 Stars

Star Rating Story: 4 Stars

Self purchase for Kindle.

First Impression:  Beautiful Art like the first one.

I am liking the fox who turns out to be Leon Redbeard. This series is sooo up my valley (that sound’s so dirty!!) Anyway. Talking animals. Who doesn’t love talking animals. Young adult graphic novel + animals = Awesome!  Love all the critters. The pagan in me LOVES the tree with the face.  I even love the handwritten letters of the text.

The one thing I don’t like about the art, is the way Emily  is drawn. Her face isn’t particularly attractive, rather boring. Not sure if that is deliberate or not.  I do love the walking house transport. Love the robots. Emily’s brother, Nevin,  is annoying at the beginning of the volume but by the end you end up liking him.  Can’t tell who is my favorite, Miskit (the talking pink bunny) or the robots or Leon Redbeard (the fox).

The part where Emily loses consciousness is well done, particularly I like the fact there’s a black page where she is unconscious.  I know this isn’t particularly original but I feel like it’s used effectively and done well here.   Another thing I like about this (SPOILER) is that Emily’s mother doesn’t let her children go off on their own, she stays with them for their adventures.

Overall I think that this was slightly weaker than the first volume, but I still loved it and it will still be a favorite of the year.  I know there are at least 4 more volumes so its not ending soon. Yes, I already have Volume 3 ready.
