His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Mast... His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Masters and Mercenaries Novella - Carly Phillips,Lexi Blake

This novella is part of Lexi Blake's Crossover Collection from her Masters & Mercenaries series.  I have never read any of the books in the original series, but it is not needed to enjoy this story.

Talia Shaw is a scientist for a big pharmaceutical company and is working on a new formula that could change people's lives.  Imagine her surprise when someone tries to break into her lab.  Talia knows they are after her formula and she decides to hide and calls her brother.  He tells her to head to Shane Landon's house to hide, since he is a body guard.  Talia is hesitant to seek help from the one man she has always longed for, but at least she knows she can trust him.  As Talia shows up at Shane Landon's house, she is very surprised to catch him showering outside, and all naked!

Knowing that Shane needs to get Talia to safety, they have to swing by her apartment first to get her work that is safely hidden and then get her to her mentor who has the rest of the work.  Of course on the way they run into all kinds of trouble.

As Talia and Shane are spending more time together, things quickly heat up.  After an explosive, action packed ending, these two finally get their happy ending.  This was a fun, and quick moving story and both of the characters were really fun.

Their Virgin Concubine
Their Virgin Concubine - Shayla Black,Lexi Blake Maybe 2.5, because I skimmed the first quarter pages or so, but then it got interesting. The concept lacked some development and I found the token 'exoticism' of the setting annoying. I did like that the heroine didn't take any of the 'I'm pushing you away for your safety' BS.

Order of Protection
Order of Protection - Lexi Blake Order of Protection - Lexi Blake

2 broken souls, hiding out in Massachusetts, find solace in each other briefly. Then, their realities collide and the solace is totally destroyed!

I struggled with Henry. He is sympathetic to a point: he is recovering from his addiction to alcohol,  he just ended a very public marriage in a very messy divorce. During his first meeting with Win, I adored him. After that though, I was finding it harder and harder to like the guy. When he becomes Win's lawyer he is a major douchebag. Win, however, is a delight! She is recovering from an eating disorder and attempting to get her life on track. She is set to attend Duke University before her life is derailed by the death of a friend. Even though Henry is treating her like she is dirt on the bottom of his shoe, she never just lays down and takes it. She is smart and not willing to let anyone walk all over her.

Win's story really resonated with me because I know many teens who develop eating disorders because they are desperate for some modicum of control over their own life. My heart hurt for her because her story is, in many ways, all too common (except for the filthy rich part!).

Characters aside, Blake gives you an excellent mystery! This is a classic whodunit type of plot and I really just loved it. Bottom line: if you like the May/December romance trope, secrets, murder, and broken characters, Order of Protection is a great pick. I am excited to see where Blake takes this series!

  • POV: 3rd
  • Tears: No
  • Trope: May/December romance
  • Triggers: both characters are dealing with addictions
  • Series/Standalone: stand alone
  • Cliffhanger: no
  • HEA: yes

The Dirty Money series by Lisa Renee Jones, Fighting for Everything by Laura Kaye, Seducing the Defendant by Chantal Fernando...then you will probably like Order of Protection!

A great crossover
His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Mast... His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Masters and Mercenaries Novella - Carly Phillips,Lexi Blake

This was a terrific read. I could not put it down. It was fast moving and the characters were interesting and had a great backstory. Talia is a scientist for a pharmaceutical company that she found a breakthrough medication that others don’t want her to have so she needs protection which brings her bac to Shane, her brothers best friend and her crush from their childhood, who is a bodyguard for McKay-Tagart. When they go on the run they find out they both still have chemistry and both decide to just have what time they have together. But somehow whoever is after Talia they keep finding them. There is always something being going on in this book. Thee was so many twists and turns and the ending was great. Carly Phillips did not disappoint in this book. I highly recommend this read.

His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Masters and Mercenaries Novella
His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Mast... His to Protect: A Bachelor Bad Boys/Masters and Mercenaries Novella - Carly Phillips,Lexi Blake Pros: loved that Talia was a scientist. Nice second chance/brothers best friend twist
Cons: felt incomplete somehow.

Overall, still a good story but I feel like it was missing something.
