Unwanteds series
Island of Dragons (The Unwanteds) - Lisa McMann

This series is fantastic. Imagine this, I read all seven books in a row. It's a relatively long series. I do tend to get bored after the first few books, or the quality drops and I give up. This series is worth reading all the way through. Loved it!

Lisa McMann is very creative and writes across middle grade and young adult. I also enjoyed the Wake trilogy. She just released another series that picks up where the Unwanteds series ends. The name of the new series is The Unwanteds Quests. Maybe the new series will answer the unanswered questions from this series...

I however, will not start the new series. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I have a lot of reading to do for school and I cannot allow myself to get caught up in another long series. Not to mention, book 1 just came out. So, there may be a bit of wait for the next one and I'm not good at waiting. I like to have the next book available to read right away if possible.

Recommended to:

Readers who enjoy fantasy and adventure stories with loads of imagination.

Great follow up to the first...
Island of Silence - Lisa McMann

The sun was low over the sea off the shore of Artime, making the distant islands look like flaming drops of lava on the horizon. An enormous winged cheetah named Simber came into view, flying over the nearby jungle.

- opening sentences

This book was just as good as the first. The end was a huge cliffhanger and I am dying to read the next one. But, my tbr list calls... and there are at least 5 more books in the series. So, I will take a short break. But I'll be back.

Love this series...
The Unwanteds - Lisa McMann

"There was a hint of wind coming over the top of the stone walls and through the barbed-wire sky on the day Alexander Stowe was to be Purged."

- First sentence

"Fear and a suspicion of strangers is, I'm afraid, a characteristic of many humans."

- Mr. Today

"Fighting against Quill's bigotry, which says brains and brawn are better, or more important, than creativity."

- Mr. Today

"Survival depended on shrewdness and good judgment as well as skill."

- Alex

This is a stupendous fantasy, dystopian story that young people will love. Lisa McMann does a first-class job of world building and character development. Alex and his twin brother (Aaron) live in Quill. Every year Quill goes through a "Purge" where all 13-year olds are divided into three categories: Wanted, Necessary, and UnWanted. Any kids that show creative tendencies are labeled UnWanted and destined to be put to death. The Wanteds go to the military academy and the Necessaries move on to menial jobs that keep the city going. But, the UnWanteds are traveling towards a different destination....

I was captivated by this story and as soon as I finished book one, I immediately ordered book two and started reading. The cover claims this is, "the Hunger Games meets Harry Potter." I believe this story is amazing in its own right and deserves a chance to fascinate you...

Highly recommended!

The Unwanteds Book Review
The Unwanteds - Lisa McMann

I really wanted to like this book. But listening to the audio version it just dragged. I can see why children would enjoy this series but as an adult I found it boring and was quite uninterested in the characters and the plot.

Alex is an unwanted. Definitely not where hoped to be especially since unwanteds are suppose to die. He has to leave his twin, Aaron, a wanted and finds himself in a new land called Artime. Threats arise, magic is found, and the twins have to use their bond and separation to live in this world.

I really really liked Wake and enjoyed McMann's other books. I was expecting to enjoy this magical adventure series of hers. So I can't help but feel disappointed. Even though I didn't enjoy it, its definitely something I will be recommending to elementary school aged children who need a new series to delve into.

Gone (Wake Trilogy Series #3) - Lisa McMann

The synopsis says it all. All the things that you are going to find out in this last installment are pretty much summed up to that statement.

The whole experience of reading this book for me was so depressing. I now understand why other reviews/reviewers suggested that if you happen to read “Fade” and love that book, and if you wanted to keep good memories of the Dream Catcher series, you should stop and not continue reading/finishing this series. But if you wanted the closure just like my very purpose in deciding to read this despite of the warnings from other reviewers, go on and read “Gone”.

I admired the author’s courage in writing this book. Everything was very realistic for me. It was so depressing that while reading it I was wishing for some miracle to happen because I got invested with the main characters, I felt protective and I don’t want them to get hurt.

In this final book, Janie is facing a lot of pressure from being a dream catcher and from living her normal life with her alcoholic mother. Thank goodness for Cabel being supportive to her. I understand Janie’s confusion on what to do and her depression for her future. She was presented with two choices but both choices were neither ideal nor beneficial. She was helpless but still she tried to do what she thought would be a good thing to do despite the circumstances. It sucks to be her and I sympathized with her in her ordeal. In the end, she made a decent decision in my opinion, though I couldn’t agree 100% to some, but what’s important was that she tried to live, enjoy and appreciate the moment and just let the future tell what to become of her.

All in all my whole experience was a great one. This series is something that would leave its mark into my heart for it is one of a kind and wonderful.

#I could never give this book a rating lower than four for maybe a bias reason

#Gee that cover! I love it tho’ it’s haunting

#Sad but realistic

#Carpe Diem
