Review: Texas Takedown by Heather Woodhaven
Texas Takedown - Heather Woodhaven

Title: Texas Takedown
Author: Heather Woodhaven
Series: N/A
Format: ebook
Length: N/A
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis:
LETHAL SABOTAGE
Presenting her research findings at an oceanology conference should be marine biologist Isabelle Barrows's big break—until she spots two men chasing her. With shadowy assailants on her tail, impressing potential investors becomes the least of her concerns. Especially when the men chase her straight into the arms of her high school crush. Unbeknownst to Isabelle, Matt McGuire still regrets the way they parted. Determined not to repeat past mistakes, Matt vows to keep her safe and make things right. But what good is a second chance when Isabelle's attackers will stop at nothing to destroy everything she holds dear—her life, her promising career and any possibility of a happily-ever-after?

Favourite character: N/A
Least favourite character: N/A

Mini-review:
This wasn't bad. The characters had quirks, which they normally don't in LIS, like Isabelle's tendency to sleepwalk and Matt's phobia of heights. I like how both played into the story. The twist at the end was so blatantly obvious to me that it felt like a letdown. Other than the quirks the characters weren't memorable, and I didn't like the fact that at the end the story only progressed because of miscommunication and Isabelle deciding that Matt only liked her as a friend.

Fan Cast:

Isabelle Barrows - Anna Kendrick
Matt McGuire - David Gallagher

Sheriff (Classified K-9 Unit #2) - Laura Scott

Title: Sheriff
Author: Laura Scott
Series: Classified K-9 Unit
Format: ebook (bind-up)
Length: 224 pages
Rating: 3 stars

Synopsis:
HAZARDOUS HOMECOMING
Witnessing a prison break, FBI agent Julianne Martinez is within seconds of death…before she's rescued by the one man she thought she'd never see again. She'd know her long-ago love, Brody Kenner, anywhere, even with a sheriff star on his chest. Years ago she left Texas and Brody, and had no plans of returning…until the trail of a missing agent brought her home to both. Brody won't let her investigation proceed without him, and he needs her and her K-9 dog to track his escaped prisoner. But partnering with Julianne to solve two cases only leads to danger when the hunted becomes the hunter. This is a mission that cannot fail…because Brody lost Julianne once, and he won't lose her again.

Favourite character: Thunder
Least favourite character: N/A

Mini-review:
This was okay. It felt a bit too... forgiving? Like Julianne left Brody 6 years prior to the book and she wasn't mad at him? At all? Like maybe a little bit at the beginning. But all the tension and stuff isn't there. The main tension is Brody being unable to forgive himself or being unable to let things go, like your typical guy, I guess? Guys in books seem to always behave like this. Dudes, please explain. I love the fact that this series features dogs though, so that all makes up for it.

Fan Cast:

Julianne Martinez - America Ferrera
Brody Kenner - Jensen Ackles

Trigger warning: rape, abuse and molestation

Synopsis:
Temporary Family
After discovering one of her young students has been abandoned along with his sisters, schoolteacher Sadie Young whisks them away to the safest place she knows—her own home. And when handsome cowboy Logan Marshal vows to assist her in caring for the children, she isn't sure she wants his help…but she needs it. If she lets Logan get too close, though, he may discover the secret she's convinced will be her ruin.
Logan Marshall isn't looking for a family. But with the parentless children and their unflappable teacher tugging at his heart, it appears he has one—at least temporarily. The kids would like nothing better than to have a real mother and father, and with Logan slowly falling for Sadie, their deepest wishes just might come true…

Favourite character: Sammy
Least favourite character: Mr. Perrin

Mini-review
This was all over the place for me. I liked it but I didn't like it. It was a cute read, but the main character, Sadie, was raped four years before the book takes place and she believes lies about herself instilled by her mother. She doesn't trust men but then falls in love with the main guy despite that. This would've been fine for me if it didn't have scenes along the lines of "she recoiled at his touch" only to be followed by "she found herself attracted to him." (I'm paraphrasing, it wasn't that blatant.)
Other than that, it was okay.

Logan Marshall - Liam Hemsworth
Sadie Young - Shailene Woodley

Synopsis:
The Rancher's Ready-Made Family
With a little girl to raise, widowed single father Dawson Marshall could sure use some help—he just didn't expect it to come from city girl Isabelle Redfield. Dawson has encountered city women before. He even married one. What if his little girl grows attached to Isabelle and the woman tires of ranch life just like his late wife did?
For heiress Isabelle, the fledgling Western town of Bella Creek, Montana, offers something more meaningful than her wealth: a chance to forge a useful life. But if she wants the townsfolk to value her for more than her money, she has to keep her identity hidden. A difficult feat, especially when it comes to the cynical cowboy whose sweet daughter she cares for after school. But will hiding the truth ruin her chance of earning Dawson's love?

Favourite character: Isabelle
Least favourite character: Dawson

Mini-review:
This was interesting. I liked this more than I usually like cowboy ranch stories, so that was nice. Dawson annoyed the crap out of me, but as he shares a name with my ex, that's understandable. But in all honesty, Dawson drove me nuts with his constant judgement of all city women based on one. Other than that, I liked it. Will be continuing the series.

Fan Cast:

Dawson Marshall - Luke Hemsworth
Isabelle Redfield - Rooney Mara

Synopsis:
PROTECTING THE SINGLE MOM
When a fellow FBI agent is kidnapped and a protected witness vanishes, Leo Gallagher will stop at nothing to find them both. So when he discovers a link between the case and a single mother in Wyoming, Leo and his trusty K-9 partner rush to question Alicia Duncan. Could she be the key to locating the missing persons? Not if a killer has anything to say about it. Someone is determined to keep Alicia from talking, so Leo and his chocolate Lab must keep her and her little boy safe on their family ranch. With danger lurking around every corner, Leo must work overtime to not lose another person who's important to him.

Favourite character: True
Least favourite character: N/A

Mini-review:
I thought this was a good start to a series. Some things annoyed me like Alicia's constant preachiness and some misuses of words, or plural when it should've been singular, but other than that it was good. I like the fact that they included River on the cover, as well as true and I also am upset because most times with a prequel you read it after the first book, but with this series you need to read the prequel novella first, so I was minorly spoiled for that.

Fan Cast:

Leo Gallagher - Ryan Gosling
Alicia Duncan - Cobie Smulders
