Book Review: Merciless (Alpha Bodyguard #2) By Sybil Bartel
Merciless - Sybil Bartel

This was such a good book! I loved seeing characters from this author's other novels coming together to help out a fellow comrade. I like seeing the family dynamic all these grown men have with men they served with in the military.

I adore Collins. He's a perfect balance of the so-called "alpha" trope and being a respectful human being. He doesn't cross the line from "alpha" into jack*ss, which I am eternally grateful to the author for. I liked how he pushed when something was dire but respected her wishes to not talk about something when it was irrelevant to any situation.

Brooke rubbed me to wrong way in so many instances throughout this novel. I understand the abuse victim mentality and it was portrayed well in this novel (as far as I can tell) but boy! was is annoying to have to read through it. I can respect someone running away after being offered help from a complete stranger who happens to be a huge muscled man who kind-of-but-not-really stalks you after the person you're truly running away from finds you. I know I'm asking too much but half the story wouldn't have had to happen had she accepted/asked for help from the beginning.

The ending was what I was expecting with a few twists that I didn't see coming. I liked how things got resolved. I liked seeing both Collins and Brooke happy for once. I loved seeing Neil from a different perspective. I can't wait to see what the next story in this series is going to be!

My Favorite Quotes:

"Make peace or die. [...] Fear serves a purpose. Panic doesn't."

"This isn't an obligation, duty or pity. You don't get to glorify what I am."

"If you're in trouble, I'm always an option for you."

Release Week Book Blitz with Excerpt & Giveaway! Merciless (Alpha Bodyguard #2) Sybil Bartel!

Merciless
by Sybil Bartel
(Alpha Bodyguard #2)
Publication date: November 6th 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Synopsis:

Bodyguard.
Mercenary.
Gun for hire.

I didn’t care what you called it, the end result was always the same.
You paid me for a job, you got results. The Marines trained me to shoot, but life taught me to aim. Working for the best personal security firm in the business was a stepping stone. Put in my time, build the résumé, then move on. I didn’t do attachments, on any level.

Until a smoking-hot former one-night stand crossed the street in front of me, holding a kid who was my spitting image. She tried to play it off, deny he was mine. She said she didn’t remember me, right before she turned around and ran. She thought she’d made a clean escape.

But she was about to find out how merciless a bodyguard could be.
*MERCILESS is a sexy new standalone book in the Alpha Bodyguard Series.

EXCERPT #1

Holding a pile of bar towels, wearing clothes two sizes too big, her hair was a fucking mess of curls. Her gaze cutting to Dax, then me, she faltered. Pulling her arms in close, she rasped out an apology. “Sorry. I didn’t know we were open yet.”

Scratchy, sleep rough, and sexy as fuck, her voice went straight to my dick.

Dax gentled his tone. “It’s okay, Brookelyn. This is my friend, Collins.”

Unable to look away, I stared at her deep blue eyes. “Hey.”

Skittish like a cornered animal, her stormy-eyed gaze locked on mine for a split second then darted to Dax. “I’ll finish up later.”

Dax held his beer up. “You want to join us?”

Before he’d even finished asking the question, she was shaking her head. Her silky, almost black curls bounced around, and she tossed the towels on the cooler.

“I gotta go.” She hightailed it back the way she came.

I stared after her, feeling like I’d just been sucker punched. Then said more than I should. “She’s pretty.” Even in her baggy clothes I could tell she had curves that’d make a man weak.

“Don’t even think about it,” Dax warned, practically growling at me. “She doesn’t need your brand of trouble.”

“I’m not trouble. I don’t fuck with women.” I was never around long enough.

He leveled me with a look. “The only thing you do is fuck with them.”

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.

Action packed
Merciless - Matt Lenz

A fast-paced action thriller that is a standalone sequel to the author's first book, DEFENSELESS.
Mark Stone has tracked down his wife's killers, but only served to seriously aggravate the main man behind them. Now, with his friend dead, he must look to unlikely quarters for help to get justice.

Bella and the Merciless Sheikh
Bella and the Merciless Sheikh - Sarah Morgan Bella Balfour has been sent away by her father for two weeks now. Bella is stuck with no phone or internet connection and just wants to go home but her father said she stay. So Bella take a jeep and ends up in a sand storm. Sheikh Zafiq Al-Rashid is furious that she has done this and comes to her rescue when she gets lost. Overall this was a good read... I just couldn't get into the characters as much as I usually do though.

REVIEW
What a fantastic third book in this series. Roan is very sick, as are most of the other mermen. Liv has to escape the crazed Shane but can she? And at what cost will it be to get the Island to let them all live. Wow is all I can say. This by far is the best yet in this series. So much action, and super freaky is all I can call the Island. I am thinking the end is a small cliffhanger, which means? I hope more in this series.

I was gifted a paperback of this book.
