The English translation is called Black Water Lilies.
This book was messed up. It’s a murder mystery in Giverny that’s all twisty plot-wise but I think everything works out. Yes, it’s so twisty that I had trouble figuring out whether everything made sense in the end. I’m pretty sure it does.
I didn’t really like it though. It was interesting but after a while it seemed to drag on and I was getting really frustrated with the police and the complacency of several of the characters. I’d be curious to see if this book messed with other peoples’ heads as much as it did mine, but I’m not sure I’d go so far as to recommend it just to find out. I might enjoy it more on a second read through but then again, I might not.
I read this for Fantasyland 6 “Read a book that is set in a Western European country” since I counted France as one. At 493 pages this one netted me another $10 for my bank, bringing my total to $257.
