THE ROMEO AND JULIET CODE by Phoebe Stone
The Romeo And Juliet Code - Phoebe Stone

Felicity comes to Maine to live with her father's family while her parents go back to Europe during WWII. She waits for letters from them which never come. She wonders what is going on. There are a lot of secrets in her father's family home and she slowly discovers what they are.

I loved this book. I had a hard time putting it down. It is so well written and Felicity is a wonderful character--curious, child-like but growing up, lively, bringing others out of their shells. She gets Captain Derek out of his room. I liked Derek. The secondary characters were different and were hard to know through most of the story until Felicity dug out their secrets. I hope I can find other stories in this series to see what happens at WWII comes to the United States.

DIAMONDS AND DANGER by Elizabeth Levy
Danger & Diamonds - Elizabeth Levy,Mordicai Gerstein

Philippa's parents work on a cruise ship. She helps them with their jobs. A new captain and his son are coming aboard for this trip. A Duchess and her nephews also are on this cruise. Philippa does not trust them especially as she notices how much they all watch her. She also likes mysteries. So she decides she will find out about them and about the captain's son who is a mass of contradictions.

I enjoyed this story. Philippa is very determined to solve the mystery even if it means she runs afoul of the cruise director and the captain. I wanted to slap the Duchess and her nephews. They were pains in the behind. I liked Philip but I wanted to know his story as much as Philippa did. We do find out in the end what it is.

This is a good story for 8-12 years old. The mystery is enough to keep one engaged and rooting for Philippa.

WARRIORS: POWER OF THREE: ECLIPSE by Erin Hunter
Eclipse - Erin Hunter

Sol, an outsider, comes to ThunderClan. Jawpaw believes he has to do with the prophecy dealing with him, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw. Suddenly, after a visit by Sol to ShadowClan, Blackstar comes to say that ShadowClan no longer will come to the gatherings. What is going on? Are the Clans at an end?Why does Lionpaw have dreams as vivid as Jaypaw?

This was so good! Even though I'm an adult, I am enjoying this series so much. I cannot wait to read the next book. Of course, I got emotionally in the aftermath of the battle (there is always a battle) and I know there will end up being another battle before the end of this particular series. I love these characters. I love the story. I get so caught up in their lives. Erin Hunter has done what I want an author to do--take me out of my world and put into the book's world. And this series does it every book.

THE LAND OF STORIES: THE WISHING SPELL by Chris Colfer
The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell - Chris Colfer
Alex and Connor are drawn into the land where fairy tales exist.  They meet Snow White, Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella as well as the bad guys--gnomes, trolls, ogres, etc.  They are trying to find their way home and were told of a wishing spell that will get them there.  Now all they have to do is find the ingredients for this spelling, make it, and wish.

Excellent world building here.  I enjoyed the characters and the story line.  The characters are not what you expect but perfect for this world.  I liked the twists and turns that got Alex and Connor into trouble or safety.  It was fun.  It held my interest.  It made me want to read the next book (which I just ordered.)  Perfect for the whole family.

THE CHAMELEON WORE CHARTRUESE by Bruce Hale
The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse: A Chet Gecko Mystery - Bruce Hale
Set-up for the Chet Gecko Mystery series has Chet taking on a case at school where the little brother of a girl he likes is missing.  The doll does not give Chet all the info she has and he has to do a little detective work.  He gets a sidekick he didn't want with Natalie but it is a good thing she's there.  She's got the brains.

I enjoyed this book.  The world building is good.  It reminded me of a 1940's Film Noir movie.  I liked Chet's thought process.  He needs Natalie but eventually figures it out.  I loved the humor and cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
