Aliens Omnibus 3: DNF at 35%
The Complete Aliens Omnibus: Volume Three (Rogue, Labyrinth) - Stephani Danelle Perry,Sandy Schofield

Cliches by the truckload, let me count the ways....

1. Strong female pilot that tries really hard to be Ripley

2. Fat co-pilot

3. Rich corporate assholes

4. Evil company

5. Mad scientist that wants to tame/create aliens

6. The good guys using ventilation systems to outsmart the bad guys

7. Creations turning on their masters and for some "shocking" reason, the master being surprised.

I'm out. The first omnibus was great. The second was bad. This was boring and poorly written.

AVP: War
Aliens vs. Predator: War - Chris Warner,Randy Stradley

I was happy to get back to the Perry's. But this book was a total letdown. The first 50 pages were a rehash of a flashback scene from the second book, but details were changed to completely distort the outlook. Several plot points were changed which made the second book pretty much impossible. It makes me wonder if this book is supposed to be canon or not. It also doesn't make any sense to me why you write 2 books in chronological order then go back and write a book that falls in the middle but is full of continuity issues. I don't get it. At least Noguchi was still a bad ass.

AVP: Prey
Prey - Steve Perry,Stephani Perry

This was a surprising gem. When you read these movie tie-in's, they can be hit or miss. And I have read some really bad ones, especially in the Aliens fandom. But wow, this was fun. I definitely see where they took some of their inspiration for the first AVP movie. The strong female lead, the warrior predator, the queen battle, the Blooding. As much as I enjoyed the movie, this book would have made for a much better story.

The Name of the Rose - Umberto Eco

"Comme Guillaume l'avait déjà dit, il est toujours préférable que celui qui nous inspire la peur ait plus peur que nous."

"Or donc, si je comprends bien, vous faites, et vous savez pourquoi vous faites, mais vous ne savez pas pourquoi vous savez que vous savez ce que vous faites?"

"Guillaume, au contraire, riait seulement quand il disait des choses sérieuses, et il gardait tout son sérieux quand censément il plaisantait."

Another short meme

1. Favorite book-to-screen adaptation?

The Circle by Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark Elfgren. I think the movie was actually better than the book, which wasn't bad either.

2. Movie tie-in covers yay or nay?

Maybe?

3. Book you most want to see adapted to screen?

Almost anything by Diana Wynne Jones and the other books in the Circle series.
