The Siren
The Siren - Tiffany Reisz

I was warned that I would be consumed and I was.

Review as posted on MyFavouriteShelf blog

Nora Sutherlin writes erotica. Zachary Easton is a demanding editor, someone Nora would like to work with, Zachary is dead set against the idea!

“I know people think erotica is just a romance novel with rougher sex. It's not. If it's a subgenre of anything, it's horror.

Horror? Really?

A Siren is calling and Zachary won't be the only man to succumb to her 'song'. Nora possess a magnetism, one that she uses well, being whom she 'needs' to be to the people she wants and doesn't want in her life. And hence begins a captivating, consuming story of love, loss, want and needs that transcends between the light and dark of society.

Juggling a slightly older, separated / married man; a young college student and an eager business partner, is Nora's ongoing challenge, all while trying to distance herself from her ex. An ex that she gave her all to but Nora made the call for both of them, to end the relationship.

“There are only two reasons why you leave someone you're still in love with - either it's the right thing to do, or it's the only thing to do.”

The Siren is a story that incorporates BDSM, but not as a 'how-to-manual' rather an account of how people exist in this world and the interaction with the others not involved in their chosen lifestyle. It delves into the emotional rather than the actual. All the characters involved, are effected in someway by actions and in-actions. Following the heart, doesn't always play well for all, no matter how good the intentions are.

“Rule #1: Hurt, but do not harm.”

The demands for Nora go beyond a triangle, rather it's akin to facets on a valuable diamond - admired by many but only within the reach of a limited circle of bidders. Zachary is tormented by the life he has left behind, he's been named the 'London Fog' by his peers and has worked hard at reaching the pinnacle in his field.

Wes is Nora's 'intern' / housekeeper, he keeps her grounded and functioning. Nora is Wes's means to being independent and able to continue with his studies. He is a perfectionist, goal orientated and he comes from a family that lived off the land. That upbringing provides him with a solid foundation, one that he tries to share with Nora.

Soren, her ex, is omnipresent. He sees himself as her rock, the cornerstone of her being and he is an enigmatic character that defines so much of whom Nora is. He is her voice of reason. be it right or wrong.

Not one to be messed with, Nora calls it as it is, using her talent to read the needs in others, doing so in a confident, sassy and humorous manner. She shocks, breaks and manipulates situations with skill, leaving participants and onlookers in awe of her, demonstrating why she is revered.

A witty, well told emotional story of what it is to be true to yourself and embrace all that is true to you. Not a book for the faint of heart, but one that will leave you curious to read on, if you are game!
