The Duality Paradigm (Book 1)
The Duality Paradigm (Book 1) - Lia Cooper I have conflicting feelings about this, now that I've finished it. It took me a long time to really get immersed in the story (which isn't unusual for me when I'm starting a new series, but I felt like it took a little longer than normal with this one for some reason), then I spent about 35% really enjoying it, and then I was kind of let down by the last few pages.

I might be too tired to articulate my thoughts right now in any detail, but I'm going to try.

I really liked the world Lia Cooper created, with supernatural beings being known by normals. I just generally enjoy that more than the hidden, secretive thing or some reason. I think I like the way things work (definitely for the weres), but I don't think I learned enough in this one to be certain. The magic system seems really interesting, though, and I'd like to know more about the other supernatural beings in this world.

Ethan and Patrick were pretty good characters, but I didn't love either of them. I liked them both, mostly, but they could be petulant and kind of stupid (or willfully ignorant, I'm not sure which). I think I liked Ethan a little more, probably because I generally like the magic-user character(s) the most in urban fantasies. I just didn't feel like there was much character growth. Both of them seemed to be making progress, but then at the end...I'm not sure.

The writing itself was good, and I was a little surprised to find out this was Lia Cooper's debut novel. It could use one more quick edit (there were a few misspellings/misused words, a couple of words and phrases doubled in a sentence, and a few instances of a word missing from a sentence, I think), but it wasn't bad.

I might not continue the series, but I'm not sure yet. I do want to know what else happens because there were loose ends I want to see tied up. I also want to know more about this world, now that I'm familiar with it and will hopefully be less confused with the next book. (I found myself re-reading a few parts to try to figure things out, and I think I mostly did, but I still have some questions.)

The Duality Paradigm (Book 1)
The Duality Paradigm (Book 1) - Lia Cooper WARNING: This book does not have a HEA. You must keep reading the trilogy. I'm so glad I have KU and am able to grab book 2 straight away. I love how Patrick and Ethan are coming together in this series.

Paradigm
Paradigm - Ceri A. Lowe This book is pretty amazing. An apocalyptic story about the beginning of the end and the end of the beginning. There is so much about Paradigm that made this enjoyable. The story was really original and the characters had such different viewpoints and strengths. This story shifts from one timeline to another, both riveting in their delivery.

This story covers the end of the world as we know it through a girl named Alice. A storm brings floods so bad civilization is forced underground. The survivors are mostly children aided by a company calledThe Industry. These children lead the way to a new way of living. They decide to start fresh and wipe out most of the things that led to the world’s demise. In the future there is Carter, a boy destined for leadership. He is unfrozen to a time 15 years into his future. He is propelled forward by being frozen in a way that has become normal. He is to be the next comptroller, a president like leader that controls the masses. The problem is that his family, both old and new, are the start of the rebellion to a society where art, music, and entertainment are prohibited. These two characters mark the beginning and the end.

What a fantastic way to start fresh! Wipe out everything that distracts from production. Alice and her generation see the err of the ways of the world. They see that the distractions take away from the things that are important. I found the character of Carter a bit less likeable, but his story was still . His reality is so rigid. He wakes up into the future. Society for him is so callous and unnatural. It is easy to see how, by avoiding somethings, a bit of humanity was wiped out. I was so captivated by the Industry. This population is made up of mostly younger people. The young and strong have found a way to survive and they are much more adaptable.

There wasn’t a bunch of technical talk in this story. We are given the elements of the community as they are known to the characters without boring explanations. This made it a much easier read than most sci-fi I have encountered. I found this book such a great escape. This was a well written story that was easy to envision. The story comes full circle in the end. There are suppose to be two more books in this series. Paradigm is so complete, I just could stop here. This book didn’t read like a series, and I am very happy to report this. Knowing and loving the characters the author has created, I am grateful there will be more. I would love to read more about this world. Bring it Ceri!

FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics Vol. 1: The Paradigm Shift
FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics Vol. 1: The Paradigm Shift - Simon Oliver,Robbi Rodriguez www.ReadingBifrost.com

Mature-Content Rating: Language, Violence, Sexual Content, Mild Nudity

“And the nature of your emergency…fire, ambulance, police… or physics?”

First I have to to say I love the outstanding covers created by Nathan Fox. They’re pop-artish in style and simply pleasing to look at. The art within the story itself can be great, but at some points there’s little to no detail that could make it better - especially the facial expressions.

The story includes Physical absurdities such as anti-gravity pockets, a bubbleverse, time pockets, and quantum tornadoes. The FBP are special agents that work to keep physics in line and put everything back in its proper place. BUT, as out FBP agents discover, all these absurdities just might not be as random as everyone was led to believe.

Adam’s character has a long history with physics- almost a vendetta against physics itself- for his reasoning for entering the FBP. His character is laid-back and happily goes with the flow, but when things get nasty he steps up. There’s good backstories for Adam, and good character development.

Agent Rosa Reyes is the character that really intrigues me. The story gives only a few small glimpses into her past, but those glimpses are enough to get me hooked and wanting to know more about this mysterious woman.

The antagonist is… not really my cup of tea. I can see where Olive is going with his ideas of the antagonist - it’s not that hard to grasp - but I was hoping for something a little more dramatic than what it turned out to be.

Overall, I recommend Federal Bureau of Physics - The Paradigm Shift to anyone who loves… physics! Also for anyone who likes reading about scientific theories coming to manifestation. Bubbleverse!
