Review: Maid of Ice (Blood and Silver, #3) by Shona Husk
Maid of Ice (Blood & Silver) - Shona Husk

Finley and Alina are part of an ancient magical civilization called Albah. Some call them elves, others call them witches, but in truth no one truly knows what they are or where they are from. The only thing they are certain of is that because their race is capable of creating evil creatures they are being hunted to extinction.
This is the third installment in the series but it can be read as a standalone. As I started reading the book I had the impression that one had to read the first two books in order to get the gist of this one but as the story progressed it was pretty obvious that was not necessary.
Finley is an adventurous and one could almost call cynical man that wants nothing to do with the magical family he was born into and couldn’t care less if they truly went extinct. The thing with Finley is that even though he gave up the responsibilities that came with being part of that family, he never gave up his magical gift as he always considered it an intrinsic part of himself. So, when he meets a long lost Albah that never before had the chance to experience life in the magical sense, he realizes what could be lost if all that magic is completely gone, and worst, what would happen to the family and friends he hardly gave himself a chance to meet.

Of all three books this one is by far my favorite. Not only did the author tell us more details of the world of the Albah, their Guardians, Albanex, and Keepers; but the story also gave us a more expanded view of how they interact with regular humans. I also thought there is a bit more humor in this one but that may be due to the interaction between the two main characters (there is also more sexual content so, fair warning) who are young and free and trying to survive a fight neither one of them asked to be a part of. Overall it was a great read with a unique world-building, just as the previous two books, and I do recommend it to anyone that likes PNR/UF with a different twist.

** I was gifted a copy of this book and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.**

The fourth in this fun and sexy New York Times best-selling paranormal series.

Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley's last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she's insane. The more they refute the woman's story, the more Charley believes it.

In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley's life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

Yes, you do need to read or listen to the series in order. Each installment builds off the other.

Holy Moly a lot happens in the Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet in the Charley Davidson series. We get more insight into Charley and what she is capable of. It also sheds more light on what is going on with the reaper side, ghosts, and people surrounding Charley.

Cookie continues to be a great side-character. She’s Charley’s best friend and always their for her no mater how much she tries to push her away or feels it’s too dangers, Cookie is their to support and kick Charley out of her slumps when need be. I just love Cookie.

Charley’s family. I liked that we got to see the love between Charley and her sister. I felt it was extremely important especially after the events in Third Grave Dead Ahead with what her dad did. I’m still made at her dad.

Reyes… What can I say about this bad boy? Their are still so many questions surrounding him. Will he end the world or be it’s salvation? And, the chemistry between Charley and him is combustable. It continues to be strong even though Charley’s a little fed-up with him and on how he treats her. I was extremely happy to finally see them have the physical sexy times instead of in the dreams or what ever place it was.

The Narration: Ms. King continues to deliver a superb listen. Her witty tone and colorful reading add to the listeners enjoyment and brings the world and characters to life. I’m very much enjoying the audio for the Charley Davidson series.

This series continues to entertain and intrigue. If you enjoy snarky humor and a good mystery then I recommend giving the Charley Davidson series a try. I also recommend the audio version for this series.

Dragons, duty, destined mates, and a deadly rival...
Silas Llewellyn, the last of a once-mighty dragon clan, doesn’t have time for anything but work and duty. He certainly doesn’t have time for love — not with a ruthless enemy plotting to destroy everything he holds dear. When a priceless diamond — one of the legendary Spirit Stones — surfaces in New York, Silas knows the jewel is nothing but trouble…just like the alluring woman who refuses to relinquish the gem.

Bartender Cassandra Nichols never asked to inherit a mysterious diamond, and she really never intended to come between two warring dragons. But with one near-miss escape after another, she has no choice but to choose sides. Before she knows it, she’s whisked by private jet to an oceanfront estate in Hawaii for her own “protection.” Is the enigmatic Mr. Llewellyn just another billionaire dragon who thinks he can claim anything he wants? Or is there more to the soulful stranger than meets the eye?

ALOHA SHIFTERS: JEWELS of the HEART is a thrilling new series set on the tropical shores of Maui. Each story is a page-turner packed with action, emotion, and romance! If you like Magnum, PI and smoldering hot, alpha shapeshifters, you'll love these books!

Love of the Dragon is book five in the Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart series by Anna Lowe.

This series fast became an entertaining and enjoyable one for me to read. I do feel you need to read the series in order; because previous characters come into play, the hunt for the Spirit Stones and what destiny aka fate has in store for these characters.

Silas is one character the moment he was introduced I couldn’t wait to see who destiny threw in his path to help him learning that being the leader and taking all the responsibility on himself doesn’t have to be done alone. He’s a broody, honorable, and stick to traditions; dragon.

Cassandra, is a bartender that didn’t know about shifters or her witch heritage until about a week ago when her crazy aunt through all of this at her. Her world got turned upside down fast, but she handled it well and showed a backbone of steal even when she was scared.

I loved watching these two come together. Silas fights his dragon all the time, even when he knows that Cassandra is his mate. Cassandra didn’t know much, but she learned fast and didn’t let witch/dragon stuff stop her from falling for Silas.

I was pleasantly surprised by some of the twist thrown into the storyline. The ending was suburb. I’d know from the authors group that she planed to add one more story to this series, but I wasn’t sure how she’d tie it into the Spirit Stone storyline. The ending answered that question and it was well done.

As always Ms. Lowe created a wonderful story that kept me hooked from start to finish.

Historical romances are few and far between for me to pick up and read, but when I saw it featured dragon shifters, well I just had to give it a try.

Highland Dragon Warrior was an interesting and pleasant read. It’s set in medieval times with magicians, sorcerers, dragon shifters, demons, and alchemy. It’s got mystery, action, and romance.

Sophie our heroine is a strong and determined women. She’s smart and stands up for what she believes in. Cathal our hero is a powerful and fierce warrior. He’s fiercely protective of his family and those he cares for and looks after.

I enjoyed the story. I loved the Scottish setting and the paranormal elements where fascinating. The author did a good job creating an intricate and appealing world, but man was the world-building extensive. I had a little trouble with the story; mainly their was just so much information with the world-building and historical aspects that the book felt slow. I also felt like I was back in school learning a lesson; especially when it came to Sophia’s alchemy and all the explanations that went into those scenes.

Now for the dragons their weren’t that many scenes with the dragon shifters and their magic. I would have liked more. Their also wasn’t much action either, until the very end, when Sophie’s soul is endangered.

As for the romance between Sophie and Cathal it was light and slow to bloom. I wish there was more interactions between these two to help build the romance. They spent a lot of time apart, watching each other across a room or briefly talking at dinner, but not doing much to move the romance along.

Highland Dragon Warrior is not a simple read. The world-building is extensive and various discussions that take place where excessive and a bit overwhelming. It’s an interesting set up and I’m intrigued, but I was a bit bogged down and felt like I was back in school.

Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back in Darynda Jones' Third Grave Dead Ahead! And she's drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because, every time she closes her eyes, she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the parthuman, part-supermodel son of Satan. Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil's son just won't give up?

Many have recommend the Charley Davidson series to me and now I’ve finally picked it up. I’ve been really enjoying this series and how things are progressing. The series does need to be read or listened to in order.

Third Grave Dead Ahead is full of mysteries, betrayals, heartache, and revelations.

There is a lot going on in this installment; with three different mystery’s happening, understanding exactly what Charley can do, and Charley now trying to get in and out of the asylum without the biker club catching her.

The overall plot moved along well and now I know a bit more about Charley and her abilities, though we are not finished learning what she can do as the Grim Reaper. Their is much more to discover. I love the friendship Charley has with Cookie. Cookie is a great secondary character and just adds to the story. The witty humor continues to be fun, but at times if feel like Charley uses it to mask her stupid mistakes or maybe it’s her way of copping with a difficult and stressful situation. I do have to say I was rolling my eyes at some of the things Charley did in this one and I will point out that I didn’t care for how this one started, dream sex. Other then that I had fun and enjoyed the story and progress happening.

Reyes of course plays a part in the story. He’s got his own agenda in Third Grave Dead Ahead and once Charley figures it out, it’s almost too late. Then to top it off she’s got her investigations and her family to deal with. She really hasn’t had it easy and dons’t have many people on her side. I was angry and sad for Charley. The men in her life really upset me. What Reyes and her father do, really made me sad.

The Narrator, Lorelei King continues to make this series enjoyable. She does an outstanding job bringing Charley to life and all the characters. I continue to appreciate and like the audio version for this series.

If you enjoy snarky humor and a good mystery then give the Charley Davidson series a try. I highly recommend the audio version for the series.
