While it might not be as financially viable as it once was, I believe like libraries, if bookstores become community gathering spots, they can thrive. Art, collectable, poetry, and childern's books are likely to maintain a hardcopy following even in the Digital Age. 

Adding a little coffee and sweets into the mix never hurts business either.
