Poison Princess - Kresley Cole

Gripping dystopian fantasy romance with everything from mystical magic to blood thirsty zombies thrown in...but, what a weird weird ending.

Poison Princess
Poison Princess - Kresley Cole 4.5 stars

Wow, I was really into this story when it ended. I almost dnf it at the beginning. All of the part about school and stuff was boring to me, and I got so tired of the word cajun being used in every sentence. When things really got started though, it hooked me completely. It's dystopian with mystery, action, magic, mythology and everything to make a great story. It centers around tarot cards. I don't remember ever seeing them used this way. Poison Princess has the whole YA fantasy romance vibe going on, but at the same time, there are zombie-like creatures and things that happen when society falls and survival of the fittest kicks in. I didn't see that ending coming, which is awesome to me. I'll be continuing the series for sure.

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
Poison Princess - Kresley Cole

I just recently got up to date with Cole's IAD series.  When the withdrawals for waiting for the next book began, I decided to give her Aracana Chronicles series a try.  This is a YA/New Adult/Apocalyptic/Paranormal Romance novel.  After a solar flash leaves the earth in an apocalyptic state, select survivors begin to discover they've been reincarnated to play out their roles in a deadly game.  These characters are based off a deck of Tarot cards and come with their own unique super abilities.  The first section of the book is a little slower, as it's centered more on character development.  But the action comes pretty quickly once the solar flash hits.  Jackson Deveaux, the romantic interest, is super hot.  I don't know that I've read a romance with a Cajun for the lead.  I listened to the audiobook version and both narrators, Emma Galvin and Keith Nobbs, did an excellent job.  Definitely continuing this series.  Five stars!

Poison Princess
Poison Princess - Kresley Cole Bravo Kresley Cole! I am having a fangirl freakout! I am talking favorites shelf worthy!

I start a lot of books at one time. I thought this would be another one of the many that gets tossed to the side. Nope. This series has been at the forefront of my attention for the past week. I was in the mood for an apocalyptic story and I got so much more! This series is something special...it truly is. I read all 3 books back to back and I need more now! If you ever read this book do it blindly. That's what I did and it was such a surprise! The only thing I knew was:

~The MC (Evangeline) was having crazy apocalyptic visions.
~Evangeline had powers akin to Poison Ivy.
~And there was an apocalyptic event destined to happen.

That's it. That's all I knew and I'm so glad I didn't know any more. It's hard to explain why I love this series. My brain goes from fully functional to zombie when I love something too much. Instead of turning into an idiot and typing, “I luvvvv it, it’s muh favorite” over and over, I will try my best to explain my obsession…..

The characters. I just loved them SO MUCH! They were multidimensional and interesting. They had their flaws and grew even more interesting as the story unfolded. And even the secondary characters were great! I miss them already.

Suspense and mystery! You never knew what was going to happen next. The journey that the MCs went on kept me on the edge of my seat. The foreshadowing was absolutely fantastic.

So much danger! The characters were in danger 99% of the time. This author knows how to keep her characters in trouble. I love it!

A MC on a mission. She didn’t turn into a braindead zombie over a guy. She had a mission and it would be hell over high water to stop it.

Okay...well I tried and I honestly can't write a review that will do this series justice. It's impossible.

I actually had this long detailed review written that accidentally got deleted. So, I guess this will have to do for now. Oh, and I have the biggest book hangover from finishing this series. I hope I can find another series to replace his one.

*Beware! There's a little high school drama at the beginning. I hate that kind of crap but the MC is still in high school when the "event" happens. I can see someone rage quitting because of the beginning. I almost took off a star for the annoyances at the beginning, but the rest was just too good.

Re-Read, well listen.
Poison Princess - Kresley Cole

The way this book is set up is just brilliant! You're told from the beginning that this is a re-telling but as you continue along you get so sucked into the story that you completely forget! which is why the ending is so spectacular. Eve surprises you when she says she was just playing a roll that she left certain details out, that she left hints for us to follow and boy did we follow them!! So as you can imagine the ending came as a real shock! I've read this book before and i was still surprised! to be fair i read poison princess when it first came out which was forever ago!
Actually the only reason I'm not giving this book 5 stars (which was my original rating) is because the characters drove me bonkers at times, completely and utterly batty with their ridiculous behaviours and fucked up priorities. But the ending razed the rating plus i rather enjoyed everything else.

Listening to this instead of reading it made me feel like i had a new perspective on the story, which was interesting and nice. The narrators Emma Galvin & Keith Nobbs) did a great job (though there was a few issues there as well) but i do admit i occasionally became very impatient with how slow listening is rather than reading - its not a very big book, i imagine i could smash it out in a day, but listening took me a few days, and occasionally i was confused with what was happening so i had to back-track, or i would get distracted and miss a part, and sometimes telling the internal thoughts from the external speech was difficult. But otherwise good stuff, loved the accents! might even listen to the next one via audio, dont know yet... well see.
