Take Me On (Pushing The Limits #4) by Katie McGarry
Take Me On - Katie McGarry

Goodreads Synopsis: Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

Review:

I really enjoyed this story as I couldn’t not like one of Katie McGarry’s books but I would have to agree with the other reviews and say this was my least favourite of the series so far.

I think what annoyed me about West was how he wouldn’t visit Rachel in the hospital because he blamed himself for her accident, yes he stole her money which led to her having to drag race, but it was completely their dad’s fault for stalling the car! He also wouldn’t listen to Haley whenever she told him not to do something. His pride got in the way a lot which frustrated me. I was strangely happy about Denny being West’s real father, maybe I was just so relieved that West and Haley weren’t cousins! haha, nice twist there Katie!

Was it just me or did we not get the whole story of what happened with Haley and Matt? We know they fought and that it traumatised her but why? Her aversion to fighting puzzled me.

Although I had a lot of feelings throughout the book, it just didn’t make me emotional like the other 3 did. I liked West and Haley and their relationship but I didn’t get attached to them like I thought I would.

They kept mentioning Rachel and Isaiah and my heart just hurt because all I wanted was to continue their story, I could read about them for forever!! I love Abby!! I love her friendship with Rachel and I cannot wait to read her story to find out more about her life! I’m hoping we’ll find out more about Rachel’s progress in Abby’s story as well. I also hope we get a book from Jax’s perspective, I think that would be interesting.

Overall this was a solid 4.5 stars for me, Katie McGarry’s writing is just amazing and she really knows how to suck you into a story. Although I wasn’t as emotionally attached to this story I’m glad I read it as I did really like how it ended. I’m excited to read the next in the series!

Review:

I’ve read this book at least 3 times now so its obvious how much I love it. I wanted to review it though because everyone should know how amazing this series is! I loved the first two books but this is one is definitely my favourite so far.

We have Isaiah and Rachel, two completely different people who are thrown together in an unexpected situation but develop a deeper connection through their love of cars and mutual understanding of each other and the struggles they have gone through in their lives. Their love was so beautiful and just filled my heart with so much emotion!

I loved how we got to see the characters from the first two books in this one while also getting to know Logan and Abby. Isaiah and Noah’s brotherly love and the love, loyalty and respect all the characters have for each other is so touching. I want to be a part of their group! It’s rare to find a book or series in which you love every character and feel as though you know them personally. This is the kind of story that when you’re reading you don’t even realise time is passing because you become so engrossed in the characters and what is happening to them that nothing else matters.

Katie McGarry’s books will leave you with the biggest book hangover but oh is it worth it! I would give all her books more than 5 stars if I could! I cannot recommend this author or this series enough, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Great Story and Characters
My Song for You: A Pushing Limits Novel - Stina Lindenblatt

Jared was a guitarist for the band Pushing Limits. Lately Jared had felt something was missing. Callie recognized Jared immediately as her older sister had been Jared’s girlfriend in high school and he and Callie had gotten close but he never knew about the crush Callie had on Jared. Callie had her four year old nephew with her. Logan was Jared’s son but he did not know ita nd Callie had promised her sister Alexis she would never tell Jared. Callie hadn’t seen Jared in five years Logan was deaf as he had meningitis and lost his hearing but Logan had an implant that helped hear but something the implant couldn’t take was music. Callie was Logan’s guardian but he didn’t remember Alexis and Callie was the only mom he knew. Logan had been the result of a one night fling with Jared and Alexis  several years after they had broke up. Jared remembered Callie had been a very talented artist and dreamed of working for Pixar. But Callie up being a graphic designer as there were more job opportunities but she also had a full time job as a waitress. Jared found he wanted Callie and didn’t know how much she wanted Jared especially since it had been three years since Callie had anything to do with a man. Then Jared found out Logan was his son and Callie had lied to him .

This was an excellent story and I loved it. How Callie had sacrificed to raise Logan and everything in Callie’s life revolved around Logan. I love how Jared was with Logan even before he knew Logan was his son and after also. Also how Jared was willing to try to work things out with Callie after the shock wore off some. I loved the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend.

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

My Song for You (Pushing Limits #2) by Stina Lindenblatt
My Song for You: A Pushing Limits Novel - Stina Lindenblatt

Stina Lindenblatt created another amazing novel, MY SONG FOR YOU, book two in the Pushing Limits Series.  Guitarist, Jared Leigh, bumps into Callie Talbert, the little sister of his ex-girlfriend, Alexis, and her four-year-old deaf son, Logan, at the grocery store.  He soon realizes that Logan is the same age as the child Callie’s sister told him she aborted.  This contemporary rock star romance is suitable for adult audiences. It takes place in California.

I like Jared.  He is a great guy.  He would have stood by Alexis and his baby.  He was heartbroken when she told him she aborted their child.  He is a really good dad.  I appreciated that he learned sign language.  Callie is a sweet heroine.  She has gone through a lot, losing everyone she has loved.  I’m glad she had Mrs. Rogers.  I respect that she has made sacrifices to raise her nephew.  She is a good mother to Logan.  I like that Jared and Callie had known each other since they were kids.  Callie having a crush on Jared, who is four years older than her.

Logan is adorable.  He seems to win over everyone he meets.  I love that he likes Winne The Pooh and puppies.

Jared has a wonderful family.  Being former neighbors of the Talbert family, I like how supportive they are of Callie.

Jared has great band mates: Nolan (main character from book one), Mason, Kirk, and Aaron.  I like how accommodating and loyal they are.  They are like brothers.  I love that Mason has to keep contributing to the swear  jar.

Jared’s ex-Tiffany is a piece of work.  She causes some interesting friction in the story.

MY SONG FOR YOU was an incredible story.  I loved the characters and the plot.  The story was believable and well-written.  There were surprises and many obstacles for the characters to overcome.  Stina Lindenblatt is an excellent writer.  She had me engrossed through the entire novel, experiencing a wide amount of emotions.  While I might not have agreed with everything, the characters did, I could easily see their viewpoints.  Pushing Limits is an amazing series.  I cannot wait to read the rest of the band’s stories.

Pushing the Limits - Katie McGarry

I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I have been avoiding YA books for a while now and after a recent decision to give them a try again, I chose this one and was pleasantly surprised.

Let’s talk about our two main characters. Noah became part of the foster system when he was a child and his parents died in a fire. He had been bounced from foster home to foster home for being a boy with “issues”. He does what every good bad boy type would do and puts on his badass pants.  He is also a really good big brother who is trying to get custody of his younger brothers since they were placed in a separate foster home than him. So, naturally he is protective, determined, and hiding behind an emotionally unstable brick wall.

“It doesn't get better," I said. "The pain. The wounds scab over and you don't always feel like a knife is slashing through you. But when you least expect it, the pain flashes to remind you you'll never be the same.”

Echo is a wreck. She has her own traumatic background that she is attempting to deal with. All she wants is to get her life back to normal, which has been impossible since she and her friends can’t get past the scars covering her body and a single night she can’t remember. She has a screwed up family with a dad that is always preoccupied with his new pregnant wife and a mom that has severe mental illness. Add in the tragic death of her brother in Afghanistan and you get the mess that is Echo.

“They say be a good girl, get good grades, be popular. They know nothing about me.”

When these two came together through the work of the school social worker: Mrs. Collins, great things start to happen. Together they decided they would help each other. Noah would help Echo find out what happened to her on the night she can’t remember and Echo would help Noah find his brothers. During this journey they deal with the ups and downs of both of their traumatic pasts, rise above bitchy teenage social drama, and most importantly learn to love and accept love in return.

I highly enjoyed this entire book. I was enthralled from the first page and read it in one sitting. The ended was perfect! So freaking perfect! To all my fellow romance readers, I recommend this book. Prepare for a book that will rock your world and is really quite an enjoyable read, even with the heavy topics. I will definitely be picking up more from this author in the future!
