Review: Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
Rebel Belle - Rachel Hawkins

Summary

Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.

Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him--and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.

My opinion:

I really, really liked this book! It felt like a light contemporary, but that wasn't exactly the genre. There were some magic elements in it. I gave this book 4.5 stars because I enjoyed it, but it's not my all-time favorite book of all time. I already kinda figured out that that thing would happen between Harper and David, so it would've been more a plot twist if that wasn't going to happen.

I picked this book up because of the BOOKSPLOSION READ-ALONG of this month: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/123821-rebel-belle-booksplosion-read-along and because of the fact that everyone in the booktube community is raving (is that the word? haha) about this book.

I've read other books by Rachel Hawkins before, but I didn't finish those series (Hex Hall). So I might pick up the last book in that series too.

Have you read Rebel Belle and what are your thoughts about it?

The Catastrophic History of You and Me
The Catastrophic History of You and Me - Jess Rothenberg

Readalong with the lovely Christina from Christina Reads YA!

This.... was a bit of a mess. And by "a bit" I mean "a rather large mess." For many reasons; I admit I'm quite disappointed. Too cutesy, too cliched, too annoying to make much of an impact.

The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts ESL ReadAlong 10-15% Slower Pace
The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts ESL ReadAlo... The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts ESL ReadAlong 10-15% Slower Pace - Lilian Jackson Braun Funny how rereading after many years a book you can find yourself going how could I not see this? This being how Braun just performs character assassination on Polly very early own in the series. Rereading this was painful. Not only Polly Duncan competent woman goes gaga on her kitten (we all do that at least once in our life) she just goes overboard and Qwill's reactions are so dismissive it almost made me close the book but I wanted to see who was the culprit (I didn't remember the whole Goodwinter mystery drama). Still there are some good things : like the small town secrets that everyones knows but keep out of family loyalty, greed etc. The young couple with the goat farm is interesting (they probably gonna end up dead or turn villain eventually considering how Braun operates).
