24 Festive Tasks: Door 9 - World Philosphy Day: Book
Timaeus & Critias - Plato,Desmond Lee,Thomas Kjeller Johansen
The Socratic Dialogues: Late Period, Volume 1: Timaeus, Critias, Sophist, Statesman, Philebus - Plato,Benjamin Jowett,Full Cast,David Timson,David Rintoul,Peter Kenny

Plato's cosmology and theory of the human body, and the story of Atlantis; courtesy of a phantastic audio version featuring David Rintoul as Socrates, David Timson as Timaeus, and Peter Kenny as Critias.  Philosophical and scientific enquiry redolent with the joy of the intellectual exercsie for its own sake -- that alone makes it a joy to tag along (however much Plato might be distressed to learn that his theories on the human body have at long last, after some two millennia. been proved wrong after all -- and despite his warnings about the falliability of the human mind, even by scientific experiment).

(Task: Read a book about philosophy or a philosopher, or a how-to book about changing your life in a significant way or suggesting a particular lifestyle (Hygge, Marie Kobo, etc.).

The Perfect Witness - Iris Johansen

This book and me were not a good match. I'm beginning to wonder if Iris Johansen and I are a good reader/author match.

I mean, apart from the problematic relationship between the hero and heroine (she's 16 and he's an experienced adult) and the dodgy power dynamic going on between them (I mean he fixes some of her mental trauma) and the man-eating tiger owning bad guy it's not a terrible read. It just kept giving me a deep feeling of unease throughout. I didn't actually really enjoy the read and standing back from it I'm not 100% sure I want to read another book by the author. Some of her unquestioned assumptions aren't mine and I'm not sure they're what I want in my reading life.

The story opens with the 16 year old Teresa Casali running away from home and the armed thugs who want to stop her. She runs into Andre Mandak who saves her and offers her a chance at a second life as Allie Girard and a family to care for her. Horrible things happen again and again and they're forced to take the fight to darkest Africa (well actually whitest Africa) and the characters never really came alive to me. I didn't really care if they lived or died and the story just drifted to it's conclusion and I was left feeling that there was more that could have been done with the premise and the characters.

Night and Day: An Eve Duncan Novel - Iris Johansen

It's been a while since I read any in this series and I've missed some of the progress of the characters and really I don't care.

Eve is trying to protect Cara Delaney and they're now in Scotland looking for treasure when Cara's mother returns tto take her away but it's for her own reasons and Cara is in danger. Meanwhile Ee is pregnant and dealing with the emotions and guilt and its all hard.

Not a bad story but didnt stand out for me

New Series to Me
Vendetta - Iris Johansen

Book title:Vendetta

series :Catherine Ling #5

author: Iris Johansen

Netgalley ARC

Comes out:Oct 23 ,2018

Pages:416

Book synopsis

With his dying breath, Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism and Jude Brandon’s final link to terrorist ringleader Max Huber, gives Brandon a mandate: to keep his daughter, Rachel, safe at any cost. But Rachel Venable has a shocking, twisted past of her own, one that comes rushing back after her medical clinic in Guyana is attacked by Huber—the same man who murdered her father and kept her imprisoned for months. Brandon and Catherine Ling, Rachel’s longtime ally and fierce protector, are determined to keep Rachel out of danger, but she knows that it’s impossible to stay hidden when Max Huber wants you dead.

As Rachel and Brandon race against the clock to bring Huber down before he can orchestrate a nuclear explosion that will lay waste to the west coast, they also fight a growing attraction to each other – an attraction that could prove just as dangerous as Huber himself. In this gripping, fast-paced novel full of dark secrets and tangled lies, one thing is clear: everyone has a vendetta, and no one will rest until they get their revenge.

My thoughts

First time Ive read from this series but not from this author , and I loved it, loved the characters , and the story , loved how it flow together and now I want more of this series , with that said I want to thank Netgalley as well as the publishers for reaching out to me and letting me read it and review it in a change for my honest opinion.

ON THE RUN by Iris Johansen
On the Run - Iris Johansen

ON THE RUN

Iris Johansen

Paperback, 368 pages
Published November 28th 2006 by Bantam (first published 2005)
ISBN:  0553586521 (ISBN13: 9780553586527)

3 1/2 stars...Iris Johansen writes thrillers/suspense extremely well. On the Run has a female main character; Grace is the female lead who is former CIA in hiding on a horse farm in Rural America. There is a daughter, a renegade former CIA agent, an under cover agent stationed in the same town watching over Grace, and leaks at CIA and FBI that cause Grace some trouble. Johansen keeps the plot moving quickly. Her characters are developed well, even though Grace's horse whisperer skills seem a little bit on the excessive side, though it works into the story line to keep it moving. Grace's daughter seemed a little "old" and too wise for her 8 years.
I did enjoy the book, and will most likely, read more of Iris Johansen
