Review: One Night Rodeo
One Night Rodeo - Lorelei James

I have only listened to one other audio book and that was when I was a teenager.  I find that I quite like listening to a book while I'm out walking my dogs and it is much safer then reading while I'm walking.

I also think I liked this book better because the narration. Damn, the narrator totally sounded like a guy when she did the guys voices.  On the other hand, the story was still a bit of a let down.  It was just like hearing about a newly wed couple trying to fit their lives together after they marry.  There was no tension of would they or wouldn't they stay together.  It was really irritating how they both loved each other but wouldn't tell each other because they didn't want to scare the other away.  These two characters are really tight lipped about everything.  Things that should have added tension, Kyle having a threesome with Celia's brother and sister-in-law 2 years ago, were pushed aside rather quickly, like one scene quickly.

Really not sure if I want to keep reading this series especially for how much the books cost.  I much prefer the author's Rough Rider series.  But for sure, if I do continue this series, it will be quite a while before I pick up another one.

Narration: 4 stars

Story: 2 stars

Saddled and Spurred (Blacktop Cowboys Series #2)
Saddled and Spurred - Lorelei James 3.7 stars.Harper, has been stuck in this town raising her teenage sister for more years then she'd liked. Her mother ran off leaving them alone with a terrible reputation thanks to her loose ways. Most of the town folks expect the same of her. She trudges on, working for the day her sister graduates and heads off to college and out of Mud Creek. She can see the finish line it's only months away when she is forced to find a new job. the only job available is with one hard arse good looking cowboy and she has no experience.Bran, the hard arsed cowboy, is known for his bachelor ways. He works and keeps to himself. He finds himself swindled into hiring an ex beauty queen to do a ranch hands jobs. While he thinks she damned tasty looking he not going there. They both decide this is business and it will stay that way. it only his body felt the same way. He is impressed with her desire to work hard and they slowly develop a friendship.Well now that friendship they've developed it taken a bit further when their bode desires take it up a notch and lust wins. Heavy, hot and with an expiration date the perfect set up for both of them. To bad nothing is that easy, wrenches are thrown into this perfect lust match and the ride gets rough.A fun, sexy, light read.

Turn and Burn (Blacktop Cowboys Series)
Turn and Burn - Lorelei James I've been a fan of Lorelei James' Rough Riders Series for a long time and had high expectations when I began her Blacktop Cowboys Series. I have a soft spot for all things McKay and I'm pretty happy to say the wranglers of Muddy Gap are making their own spot as well.Turn and Burn is the fifth book in the Blacktop Cowboy Series and starts up two years after One Night Rodeo (#4). At the beginning of the book I was a little surprised at how Tanna was doing. We've met Tanna in previous books and she's the ultimate Texas Cowgirl. She's a Rodeo Queen World Champion Barrel Racer who's about as headstrong as they come. I'm not sure who's tougher; Tanna or a Bronc Bull. But Tanna's been had her share of downs lately in her personal and professional life and is taking a break at home. And that's when we meet our hero August Fletcher. On her way home Tanna just happens to cross our hero and they engage in the one-night-stand. Of course as luck would have it the man she thinks she left behind (to never see again, of course) is none other than the local large animal vet. Fletch, as he like to be called, is a stand up, no commitment guy who thinks that women can't handle his commitment to his profession. Now he's the one wanting a commitment from Tanna while she's the one putting the brakes on anything long term- after all, she's planning on leaving town when summer ends. Tanna and Fletch are so freakishly perfect for each other that at times you want to bonk her on the head with it. Her hesitation is understandable but watching Fletch work with her on her panic attacks and recovery both sweet and stubborn. The banter and playfulness had me laughing out loud at times and wishing for my own animal doc. And there's absolutely all the steam and heat that you expect from a Lorelei James book. Tanna and Fletch have their steamy moments but they are well balanced but the characters emotions. I've said before the best thing about reading a series is that you get to see the characters from past books and find out how they are doing. Like Rough Riders, the Blacktop Cowboys Series has spanned several years now and we get to see how some of our past favorites are doing and meet new the new guys that we'll see in the future.Turn and Burn is a wonderful addition to the Blacktop Cowboys and is classic Lorelei James. Both Tanna and Fletch have scars from their past but healing together is better than apart. And like all Lorelei James books, Turn and Burn can be read on it's own but knowing some of the past characters and their stories makes you appreciate all the more.

Saddled and Spurred - Lorelei James The first book in this series really turned me off so I've been remiss in reading the rest of this series. Glad I continued on. I liked this book SO much better than the first book in this series. Harper was a very easy heroine to root for. She was trying so hard to do the right thing, working so hard, despite the knocks life was throwing her. I adored her as a character and the backbone she had. I liked Bran as a love interest for Harper. They had nice banter together as well which was laugh out loud in places. Very sexy love scenes as well. I especially liked that Bran enjoyed his spanking - Ms. James cowboys tend to be willing to explore.

Les was a jerk and needed to be fired! Looking forward to Renner's book next.
