A review for Soul Resurrected (Sons of Wrath #2) by Keri Lake
Soul Resurrected - Keri Lake

I loved this book and thought it was a great addition to the Sons of Wrath series

This time around we have Logan and Calla as our main couple, the book had already been set up at the end of Soul Avenged when Calla - being of pure blood – was the only person who could save Logan from death after he saved her from being raped but had been stabbed with demortis in return - one of the only things that can kill a demon. We knew that something was happening between them, especially with Calla’s reaction to Logan’s predicament but did we think that Logan would go for it? Hells no! So we’re left with pure, virginal Calla pining after the cold and emotionless Logan…. But don’t think of Calla as a victim, she’s a fighter…. But will she fight for Logan when it seems like a losing battle? I love the combination of this pairing and I’m a sucker for tortured heroes who think themselves unworthy of anything clean and pure so how perfect is Calla to challenge Logan’s demons? Pretty much so because I love what she brought out in him, how he pushed her away in the beginning, trying to fight the way he was feeling toward her, not even totally understanding his feelings but absolutely sure they aren’t what they were, then when he thinks he just needs her intimately, thinking himself a bastard for doing so – right up until he would risk everything for her… he had built his barrier, guarded the heart he refused to believe he had ….and timid, shy Calla knocked it down at every chance she got, by just being her. I was totally sucked in!

The storyline was a perfect progression and I love the new threat brought into the mix, these books aren’t fluffy romance books book, they are gritty, raw, violent, sadistic and at times grotesque…… but flipping awesome! Plus when you add a bunch of seriously hot but f’d up men….. let’s just say the temperature will soar. You can feel the danger & tension which adds to the appeal because with warriors like ‘the Sons of Wrath’, your enemies are going to be formidable and believe me….they are. The whole gang will take some knocks in this, one moreso than the others but don’t even think that it will be easy for any of them, and you can really appreciate and anticipate the consequences that will follow this book. I will say that even though the romance aspect is a battle of wills between two people who consider themselves unworthy, it is the only sweetness that you will find in this story but is the most beautiful, heartwarming sweetness you could wish for and I got the feeling that all of the brothers felt this one. I said there will be consequences for book three, which is true for more than one person because there are not only new creatures to deal with but new enemies from unexpected places, a little more knowledge on the ‘human/alexi’ situation and still one enemy yet to re emerge as the brothers await their fates…. I can’t wait!

Review: Soul Resurrected
Soul Resurrected - Keri Lake

I’m always a sucker for the tortured brother… and Logan sure fits the bill! He was betrayed and abused by his mother, then spent decades tortured in hell after he finally got free of her.  He doesn’t believe that love exists.  Other than the devotion he has for his brothers, all he feels is a concoction of numbness and anger.  As the book begins, this is even more true than usual. He has just been brought back from death. He can’t even move –and he is seething.  He got into this situation saving the Alexi Calla from a rape.  If it wasn’t for her, he wouldn’t be weakened.  He feels no sympathy for what she’s endured or any gratitude for the blood she gave to save his life.

Calla is a strange blend of innocence and strength. She was an Alexi soldier. She is trained to kill and knows how to fight. But she is emotionally fragile, especially after the death of her brother.  And she is a virgin.  I can’t stress that enough. (Or at least, the book can’t stress that enough.) It’s really important.

Anyway, Calla has been tapped to help Logan through his post-resurrection recovery.  This isn’t an easy task, since he is an asshat of epic proportions and he seems to
dislike her more than most.  But underneath the animosity, there is a deep seated attraction, brought on by her blood coursing through his veins.  Not only does that make Logan lust after Calla, it also makes him protective of her.  And the longer they are under the same roof, the more those feelings come to the surface.

Poor Logan is such a hot mess.  Yes, he is a jerk, but he has been through so much. Some of the flashbacks made me cringe. And Calla is such a balm for his soul.
The thing is, she has her own demons lurking. Despite her technical virginity, she has been abused as well, so when she and Logan finally come together, they both have mountains to climb.  It’s sad and sweet and sexy all at the same time.

I find that I really like this series.  It’s got that familiar Black Dagger Brotherhood vibe, with its group of screwed up, pumped up, sexy brothers fighting the things that go bump in the night.  It’s PNR, but right there on the cusp of UF, with its great world building,  a wide range of characters, and a continuing story arc that follows from book to book.  I am already so invested in Gavin, Calix and Zeke, and intrigued by the other brothers, as well.

This installment did a good job expanding the scope of the enemy.  And it opened up even more of the world, by taking us into the demon realm and introducing us to the leadership there.  But the big draw was the romance.  I liked Calla ok, but Logan… (*swoon*)…  I hurt for him and wanted so much to see him find his happiness.  It’s not an easy road, but I was very satisfied with the journey.

Soul Resurrected
Soul Resurrected - Keri Lake Oh boy, get ready for some angst and drama!! It is great but it is not a light and fluffy kind of read!! Loads of brooding going on, but in a really delicious guy, so drool!!

Logan is such a yummy jerk most of the time. Why do we always love the sexy guy who is mean and grouchy? Oh yeah, because they usually have a delicious squishy center! Once he gets over the whole dark and brooding phase you really do come to love him!

Calla is so very shy and sweet, but do not let that fool you, she has a core of strength. I love a gal like her! Logan and Calla have a great dynamic and you really root for them to get together and heal each other. I know, sappy romantic, but that is what I will always be!

Another terrific story with loads of wonderful twists and turns!! I want the next book ASAP!! I love a well crafted Urban Fantasy and this one does not disappoint! This book introduced us to several characters who I can see taking the lead in their own books! Ms. Lake definitely is going on my Must Read list!!

*Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for am honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.*

5 full moons -"Soul Resurrected" by Keri Lake
Soul Resurrected - Keri Lake

Excuse me, while I gush over Soul Resurrected in my review and how much I LOVED the 2nd installment to the Sons of Wrath series.  I had to read this book slowly…unfortunately…due to being sick, but how I see it, I savored every minute with this book and got to enjoy it.  I snuggled up in bed, while sick and got to forget my cold symptoms, while I read Soul Resurrected.  =)

Keri Lake did an amazing job with her second installment to the Sons of Wrath series and I have to say this book should get 10 full moons instead of just 5.  Keri’s writing style is much different from any other PNR/UF writers out there.  She has you continuously turning the pages of her books from the first to last page with all the elements she puts into her books.  Soul Resurrected has everything in it that makes it PNR and UF.  You have the action-packed moments with the dark and twisted moments and let’s not forget about the steamy romantic moments.  HOLY CRAP!!  (I did warn you I’m going to gush)

Soul Resurrected put me through so much, while reading it thanks to Logan and Calla.  Logan because he has been put through so much and is not the nicest of the Sons of Wrath.  In fact, you would think he would be despised for how he treats Calla in the book in the beginning, but the minute we find out what has happened to make him the way he is…is the minute we start feeling sympathy for him.  He has been put through hell and back. (literally)  His other demon brothers actually helped him get to where he is now, but no one really understands him…until recently. (He may be horrible at times, but he won me over the minute things got steamy with Calla…Logan actually has a very caring side…*sigh*)

Calla even has her own demons inside herself since she worked for the Alexi and now she is out for blood for the one, who killed her brother.  Unfortunately, everyone in the Sons of Wrath house think she is weak, but she will do anything to prove to them, she’s not.  Logan in particular, who makes her life hell.  He treats her like crap and talks horribly to her….but for some reason Calla cannot stop thinking about the stubborn demon and Logan is starting to feel the same way.  ( Her character was kick-ass and I adored her most, whenever she dealt with Logan)

Trouble is going to hit close at home, when the Sons are out with Calla doing rounds to find Draven (one of the Alexi), and the run into a bounty hunter, who is hunting one of them.  Zeke ends up taking the brunt of the bounty hunter and gets kidnapped.  Calla feels terrible for it and she wants to find Zeke.  All the Sons of Wrath are going on a war path to find their brother.

Truths are going to start coming out on, who the bounty hunter was actually out to get and then some body wants Calla for some reason.

If you have not read Soul Avenged, I highly recommend reading it before you read Soul Resurrected.  Keri Lake builds from Soul Avenged to go into Soul Resurrected and you definitely do not want to miss out on what happened in the first book.

I could go into more gushing and more details of Soul Resurrected, but I do not want to give away any spoilers.

Let’s just say, if you are a fan of PNR/UF, you definitely need to read the Sons of Wrath books by Keri Lake.  You will fall for the Sons of Wrath and will want to know what makes them the way they are.

I give this book 5 full moons…or actually 10++++full moons and I am anxiously waiting for the next installment.  I need to find out about Zayne and Gavin.  Those two have definitely caught my interest even more after reading Soul Resurrected.

Another gush moment…since 2013 is coming to an end…HANDS DOWN…Soul Resurrected is my FAVE book this year that I have read.  =)

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

I was so happy to finally get to read this one. I absolutely loved the first book of the series and this one was just as awesome. It begins right where the last book left off. Logan has just been resurrected, thanks to Calla's Alexi blood. The Alexi have scattered around the city and their numbers are dwindling. There also seems to be a species they all thought was extinct that has come back and is wreaking havoc.

It was a bit hard for me to get into for me. Not because it was boring, because it wasn't at all, but because I had forgotten a few things about this world. Once I started picking up on things and being reintroduced to it all, I was able to get back into the flow and loved every moment of it. So, I would recommend you to read the previous book before starting this one.

I remember from the first book that there seemed to be something between Logan and Calla, a mutual attraction. In this book, Logan resents Calla for everything that happens to him. He was stabbed saving her, which caused his death in the first place, and now he is temporarily paralyzed after coming back to life. He tells himself over and over that he hates her. He is mean and that pissed me off so much. He was a real jerk and she just let him treat like that. I almost hated Logan, but once you understand why he is the way he is, it just all made sense. He has been living numb and is still tortured by his past, which was just horrible. But Calla seems to be the only one to make him FEEL, something he hasn't done in a long time. No matter how much he denied, he knew he felt something for Calla and just wanted to keep her safe. Maybe even make her his. Then I couldn't help but love Logan. He was such a lovable jackass, an alpha, and very protective. He had a lot of things to overcome and I'm glad that Calla was able to help him with that a bit. I was so saddened by his upbringing. It really broke my heart. I was so digusted by the woman that called herself his mother. I am so happy that Logan turned out to be better than I initially thought. He was just wonderful and smoking HOT!! And so perfect for Calla. Loved him.

"You're my drug, Calla. The one that's going to pull me under and ruin me for life, but even one more taste of that is better than not at all."

Calla was one of Wade's Alexi. We already know that she had to go through some tough stuff because of Wade. And now that he is dead, she is free. But She seeks revenge on the person responisble for her brother's death. I LOVED Calla. She seemed shy and meek on the surface but she had a silent strength that I really enjoyed. And she was totally badass during the fighting scenes. I loved how she never gave up. I also loved the lengths she would go to protect those she cares about. In this book we get a little more insight about her past, the one she was forced to forget. I felt for her and the happy life she once had, before becoming an Alexi. And then her life in the hands of Wade was terrible. He was a sick bastard. She felt ashamed about that time in her life. She never felt truly desired by anyone, just embarrassment and humiliated. Logan changes that for her. She has hope that he actually cares about her and is stirring feelings in her that she didn't think she would ever feel. He finds out what honest affection is like as well as passion. There were few times where Calla would make dumb decisions and it would frustrate me, but she was such an awesome character. I hope these great female characters become a trend in the series.

Whenever Logan and Calla would be alone in a room together things would spark like crazy. They. Were. Intense. I loved every moment of it. The steam is definitely higher for me in this book than the last. Logan was super sexy and amazing. The things he would do and say, had me blissfully happy and panting. I couldn't put this down.

"What is it that you say in Demonic again? For love?"

"Du amec."

"Yes."She flung her arms around his neck, rose up to her tiptoes, and whispered in his ear, "Du amec, Logan."

The other brothers I still very much love. Zeke is my favourite, for sure. He is the dirty mouthed man-whore with a kind and charming personality. He has me under his spell. I was so upset by what happened to him in this book. I can't wait to read his book and Gavin's. I am still very much curious about them all. So, I can't wait. Things picked up near the end, I was glued to the book to find out what would happen. I liked the action scenes, just as much as I did the first, they were so cool. The description was perfectly written so you can really visualize everything that is going on. This book has no cliffhanger, for which I was so happy with. The ending was so awesome... and sweet... and romantic... and just great. I was smiling so big. Loved the hea Logan and Calla had, they deserved it. The epilogue left me wanting more of this series. I am guessing Calix is next and I can't wait to read that. I am loving the series so far and hope it continues that way with the future book. Loved it! I recommend this to all you paranormal romance lovers out there.
