Harry Potter and the Chamber of Sssssecrets
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - J.K. Rowling,Mary GrandPré

I initially read this book to my son when it first came out.  I think he was 5.  That was a really long time ago and I couldn´t remember the story so I decided to read it again.  I am surprised at how much I had forgotten.  I love Dobbie, the house elf and how he would do something bad and then punish himself by banging his head into the wall or shutting his ears into the oven. Poor Dobbie.  I loved the flying car and how the boys stole it when they couldn´t get on the train to get to the school.  Harry and Ron narrowly escaped expulsion from school and were warned not to get into any more trouble.  Then, Harry starts hearing this strange voice that no one else can hear saying, ¨kill....kill......¨  He follows the voice and finds Mrs. Norris, a cat that roams the halls of the school petrified over words painted on the wall saying that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened and warning that all muggle born would be killed.  Of course, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are going to try to figure out what is going on for themselves since the staff at the school don´t seem to be able to.

I enjoyed reading this book again but it made me sad thinking about my cute little boy that is now not so cute and a lot more hairy.

The Spider Apocalypse Is Here in Skitter by Ezekiel Boone @ezekiel_boone
Skitter: A Novel (The Hatching Series Book 2) - Ezekiel Boone

I love a good horror novel, and after reading The Hatching by Ezekiel Boone, I had to have Skitter, Book II in the series.

Just looking at the cover gives me the willies and shivers run up and down my spine. I can only imagine what reading the book is going to do to me.

Bring it on, Ezekiel!

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I HATE SPIDERS!

Skitter by Ezekiel Boone is the continuation of The Hatching and the spiders are winning. If you weren’t afraid of spiders before, you will be after reading about the spider apocalypse.

Millions of people around the world are dead and there is no end in sight.

Melanie never thought she would become the most important woman in the world…but, here she is and the pressure is intense as she struggles to save the world.

Would she succeed?

Agent Mike Rich had been at ground zero, finding the very first spider and he hasn’t stopped since.

People’s true colors come out when disaster occurs, and we have our share of heroes and villains. Do any of us know how we would act in a time of crisis? I would hope I would rise to the occasion. How about you?

Would the war games, flu epidemics and disaster protocols the government has practiced and had in place for years…decades…succeed? We are about to find out.

If you want something to keep you looking out the corner of your eye, jumping at the slightest perceived movement, slapping at the creepy crawlie feeling running up and down your arms, READ THIS!

I voluntarily reviewed Skitter by Ezekiel Boone.

Charlotte's Web
Charlotte's Web - E.B. White,Garth Williams,Rosemary Wells

Charlotte's Web is a fantastic novel; I have read this two or three times. A little girl named Fern puts forth all her efforts to save and take care of a pig named that her dad just wants gone. The novel includes a spider named Charlotte who is a very motherly and encouraging friend to Wilbur. This story teaches students about true friendship and devotion to one another.

For this novel, I would read it in a fourth or fifth grade classroom, and have my students throughout our reading make notes about the characters, then at the end of our reading I would have them either fill out a graphic organizer with the plot (beginning, climax, and ending) or have discussion questions in groups about the theme, plot, characters, etc.

Charlotte's Web- Lexile level 680L
Charlotte's Web - Garth Williams,E.B. White,Kate DiCamillo

Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White, is about a little girl named Fern who saves the "runt" pig that her dad wants to get rid of. She raises the pig, and names him Wilbur. Wilbur is moved into the barn and begins to make friends with a spider named Charlotte. They go through many trials and tribulations as such strange friends. Eventually Charlotte dies, but leaves behind children. This is a great story to use for grades third through fifth where they can learn how to cope with death and the way of life. You can use this book as a whole group reading book where you assign certain amounts of chapters a week, and we discuss them later in class with incorporating multiple activities. You can also incorporate science by using it as a life cycle lesson, or even a lesson on spiders life spans. It would be a great book to keep them engaged and excited about reading. You could even incorporate poetry by having a themed poem sheet in the shape of a web, spider, or even a pig. You could do many different kinds of poetry lessons using this book  and it's characters, setting, and theme. I would use this book for grades third through fifth.
