Suckers
Suckers - J. A. Konrath, Jeff Strand, Read by Dick Hill

Hmm. This was a tough book to rate for me. I really enjoyed Jeff Strands chapters,  Andrew Mayhem will always be a favorite character of mine, but this was my second time reading  J.A. Konrath and I'm still not a fan. Harry McGlade was just so unlikable, and I get it we're not suppose to like him, but I can't read a book about a character that I wish somebody would shove off a cliff and enjoy myself. I need at least one redeeming character trait or some background character that's likeable. So if I had to rate this based on the stories with just Andrew Mayhem, it would be a 4 1/2. Based on just the Harry McGlade stories, it would be a 1/2 star and possibly a DNF. The final story including both characters I would have rated a three. If you take the average of those three numbers, you get 2.66666, but since this site doesn't allow you to be that specific, I rounded up to three stars.

Death is for Suckers
Suicide Squad, Vol. 3: Death is for Suckers - Adam Glass,Various

This one has been my least favorite volume so far. Like really what did I just read. I think there are some interesting science things that are going on but as for the story we were given it was just....meh.

The Joker though.  Heebie jeebies for sure. His face... so creepy, so icky. (I don't/didn't/wont read any of the other things he ties into because I have zero interest in the Batman comics)

I didn't listen -_-
Suicide Squad, Vol. 1: Kicked in the Teeth - Adam Glass,Ryan Benjamin
Suicide Squad, Vol. 3: Death is for Suckers - Adam Glass,Various
Suicide Squad, Vol. 4: Discipline and Punish - Ales Kot,Patrick Zircher
By Matt Kindt Suicide Squad Vol. 5: Walled In (The New 52) (52nd edition) [Paperback] - Matt Kindt

My Batman-loving girlfriend* told me the New 52 sucked, and I didn't listen.   I saw these at the library, and thought, ooooh, DC's Lady Deadpool!   Even Harley didn't save these.

Better than the next reboot, but not by much.   It didn't help that the same character died in two volumes - which was explained later, but not very original by the second time it happened.

And Harley's initial meeting with the Joker wasn't consistent throughout these.

*I know people are wondering how I got into a super secret, super sapphic relationship with Troy.**   Well, he secretly is really in love with Wonder Woman.   So, y'know, that whole Amazon thing.

Convincing him I had a Lasso of Truth was the really hard part.   Don't ask.   You don't want to know.

**I warned you, baby.   Still love me?  XOXO!

Suckers by Z. Rider
Suckers: A Horror Novel - Z. Rider

Musician Dan Ferry gets bitten by a bat-like creature and starts to feels different during the days that follow. He got nasty headaches. And, a buzzing feeling every time he touches another person. But the most worrying part his growing need for human blood...

I actually came to enjoy this book towards the end and that is more than I expected, especially since I was thinking of giving up on the book for a long while. I just hard a damn hard time getting into the story, what made me keep reading was pure stubbornness and the fact that Dan and Ray's friendship throughout the book was really great. I just wish the story had been better. In the beginning I listened to the book and then I went over to read it as an ebook and I was skimming a bit just to get through the boring parts. But somewhere along the way the book got better and better.

Unfortunately the beginning and most of the middle was just not that interesting. Dan got bitten by a "vampire bat" and started to change and get a taste for blood. Ray never gave up on his best friend and stayed by his side and helped him. Then, came the part when more and more people were attacked and suddenly the story takes a dystopian turn and that is when I start to really like the book. The ending is a bit sad.

I'm glad I never gave up on and continued to read the book. It may have been slow in the beginning, but towards the end the story improved enough to make it enjoyable to read.

I received this copy from the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review! Thank you!
