Say it Louder (Tattoo Thief #4) by Heidi Joy Tretheway
Say it Louder (Tattoo Thief) (Volume 4) - Heidi Joy Tretheway

   syns

Dave faces an ultimatum—dump his toxic girlfriend Kristina or break up his band Tattoo Thief. But Kristina won’t go quietly. She has enough dirt to ruin each member of the band, and enough on Dave to send him to jail. This stinking, bloody threat has haunted him for years. As Dave hangs in limbo, a new star emerges: Willa, dubbed “The Parking Lot Picasso” by the modern art world. When a magazine feature catapults her to sudden fame, Dave helps her cope with the spotlight when all she’s ever known is the shadows. Life as a runaway jaded Willa, and it leaves her deeply in doubt of her fifteen minutes of fame. Nothing good lasts forever. Especially not love. It seems like everyone wants a piece of Willa now. When their music and art worlds collide, Dave's the one person who isn’t trying to take something from Willa, and who might have something to give. As Dave’s secret is laid bare, a mystery unravels, pointing to his guilt and its dangerous intersection with Willa’s old life on the streets. Both must risk their success and the intense connection to each other to prevent their pasts from defining their future.

my though

I was super excited when I saw that after almost two years, we finally getting another Tattoo Thief book. Dave’s Story. Each book in the series is a standalone but it doesn’t hurt to have read the other books in the series. And not only because it helps to get to know all the characters and the band buy they all are fantastic and I loved each book in the series. This book of course was no different and I think I so far this was one my favorite books out of all of them ... for now. I pretty much read the book in one sitting, I just couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed Dave and Willa so much. This book was raw, emotional, sweet and sexy all at once. In the beginning I thought Dave was really whiney and I was super excited when Willa called him out on it. I really enjoyed Dave once he started hanging with Willa and what he became. I LOVED Willa, her backstory and her attitude. Loved them both but together they simply just perfect for each other and balance each other out so perfectly. Dave ways struggling with his past and Kristina, but also with his part in the band, this will be solved in this book and I really liked the outcome. Overall, I really absolutely loved this book and the ending was just beautiful. I may or may not have teared up reading it. I rate this book a full 5 ★ and I can NOT wait to read Ryan’s story Skip a Beat.

Tattoo Thief - Heidi Joy Tretheway
If Tom says so, it must be right ;)

Okay, color me shocked. I never really expected to like this book much. Maybe that's mean of me (who am I kidding? It'sdefinitely mean of me), but I just... I was apprehensive. Still, I'm a sucker for the Rock Star x Normal Girl trope (and, if anybody knows of a book featuring this trope but opposite, please share), but it's also not a secret that I've been disappointed by some of the so called best of the lot.

Tattoo Thief tells the story of Beryl, a twenty two years old woman who feels stuck in her job, so when her late dad's best friend shows up and offers her a job in NY, she takes it. And then her roommate deal falls off, and a house sitting gig falls in her lap...

And not just any house - Gavin Slater's. Oh, c'mon. Don't pretend you don't know who that is. Just the hottest lead singer in the hottest rock band alive - Tattoo Thief. He seems to have gone through some form of meltdown, though, and Beryl might be just the person to bring him back.

Now Beryl... she's a tough one for me. I both loved her and hated her. I loved the brave, takes-shit-from-no-one kind of girl she proved herself to be in New York. I loved that she looked at houses and saw people, and that she often wanted to fix them. I liked her dynamics with Dan, Charles and Jasper (who is the most perfect doggie ever!).

I didn't like her shameless snooping. I didn't like that she went on that drive with Peter (seriously?!). And I supremely didn't like the Lulu's Clothes thing. It's a relatively small thing to be so putout by, but I couldn't suppress my distaste and disdain with the fact she was wearing a dead woman's clothes.

Now the love story... I did feel like they fall for each other a bit too fast. I mean, I loved their email chats, but every conversation kind of ended with them mad at each other, so why are you also falling in love? But they were cute. Even ifthere was way too little of actual Gavin.

Stella... Stella reminds me of Stella from winx club. Same type of person; self-centered, kind of boy-crazy, easily hurts her friends without noticing (and sometimes, definitely noticing and still does it). See what you did there, character? You made me draw Winx Club analogies. Shame on you!

I don't think I could've forgiven Stella if I were in Beryl's shoes... though, she clearly uncovered something earth shattering about herself to Beryl at the end there to gain her forgiveness... and I can't wait to find out what! (Sadistic of me, I know)

And the ending.. well, I feel cheated! I was reading along, my kindle telling me I still have 48 minutes in the book when BAMthe end and turns out those 48 minutes are previews for the next book. Seriously?! Bad book, you fooled me!

I wanted more time with Beryl and Gavin just being Beryl and Gavin together!

Tattoo Thief
Tattoo Thief - Heidi Joy Tretheway

Life is too exciting and messy and unpredictable to give up. I’m telling you all this crap about what I hated in my life, but it was an adventure

This is another book that I picked up when it was free on Amazon. This book follows Beryl (I liked the unique name) as she breaks out of her safe, boring, and normal life in Eugene, Oregon to move to New York City to work for her late father's best friend. She ends up a housesitter for the mysterious rock star, Gavin Slater. While house sitting for Gavin she gets to know him and the two become close.

I initially really liked Beryl and could really connect with her. I could identify with the safe life that she lived in Oregon and the growth that she experienced when she moved to New York. When I started to have a little bit of a problem with her is when she kind of turned into some creepy stalker about Gavin (even she admits it was kind of stalkerish. I had a bit of second-hand embarrassment at how desperate she seemed at times.

Beryl and Gavin get to know each other through emails and instant messages. For most of the book that is how Gavin makes an appearance. I can understand how they could grow to become friends because of that but not how they could grow to fall for each other so fast. Maybe it was just me but I felt like the emails and instant messages weren't enough for them to truly get to know each other.

I was just as impatient for Gavin to come back home as Beryl was. I feel like that while we do get to know him while he is chatting online with Beryl Gavin wasn't truly fleshed out and developed until he came home.

Overall I did enjoy this but felt that the love came on too fast and too strong and that Gavin was underdeveloped for most of the book. I don't know if I will be continuing with this series but only because I didn't particularly like the two characters that are the focus of the next book.
