Adult story from a well-loved author
The Blue Castle - L.M. Montgomery

Valancy Stirling has been emotionally abused all her life, she is worn down into a shadow of a human, dependant on others (as many women were at the time), dealing with her wants and needs being neglected, she escapes in the works of John Foster, who writes about nature. She sometimes escapes to an imaginary place that is a blue castle.

Her life changes when she hears that she has a deadly heart condition and now she only has a short time to live and she decides that she's not going to live her life as it was, she's going to live her life as she wants. This leads her on an adventure that will change her life forever.

I really enjoyed it, found it uplifting and hopeful.

Reading progress update: I've read 165 out of 256 pages.
The Blue Castle - L.M. Montgomery

I haven't had time to read in 3 days. I've let a lot of things pile up like my fauxbonichi journal, moleskine book journal (still work in progress) and my weekly food prep. Happily today is the day I will plow through The Blue Castle.

I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would. I would continue reading tonight if it weren't for my eyelids shutting on me. I've tried to fight the good fight. Valancey is an inspirational story. The Blue Castle is a perfect read for those trying to be true to themselves and to not live in the expectations of others.

Reading progress update: I've read 59 out of 256 pages.
The Blue Castle - L.M. Montgomery

Some time ago, I watched a Book Tuber talk about her love of The Blue Castlewhen she was a child, and that she read it over and over. She wanted a new copy as her mass market copy was old and tattered.

Sourcebooks have designed beautiful new covers for many of L. M. Montgomery books. Last year I purchased all six of the Anne Of Green Gables editions. They are absolutely beautiful. I was intrigued by The Blue Castle and ordered it. Isn't the book stunning?

At the beginning Valancy (our main character) is self deprecating to exhaustion. She repeats her misfortunes and ill treatment from others over and over. I knew if Valancy didn't stand up for herself soon I would have to quit this book. To my delight she has done just that with verve and now I'm all in.

Books I want to read in January
A Mercy - Toni Morrison
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr
Redeeming Love - Francine Rivers
The Strange Library - Haruki Murakami,Ted Goossen
The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives - Lola Shoneyin
The Blue Castle - L.M. Montgomery

I'm shooting for 100 books this year. The last three years I accomplished my goal but last year I allowed You Tube, Tumblr and Instagram to be too much of a distraction. I've deleted all of my social media accounts leaving Goodreads and Booklikes. I have Shelfari and Pinterest accounts that I don't update any longer. I am confidant with these changes I will meet my goal.
