Cannibal Orgy
Cannibal Orgy - Eric Blood

Not bad, but not the best writing out there either. I could tell within the first few pages that this could've used another proofread, especially when it comes to punctuation. The author seems not to know that questions in dialogue end with a question mark and not a comma or period.

All the characters here were pretty flat and one-dimensional, and seem driven solely by sex, even those not infected with the disease. The women were objectified the most, differentiated by breast size every time one was introduced. But the treatment of the men wasn't much better either.

All that aside, there were some redeemable qualities of the story. The pacing was good, and it was an interesting enough premise to keep me reading. The action at the climax of the story flowed pretty nicely. Also, there were some passages that had me equally aroused and disgusted at the same time, so good job on that, I guess? I mean, that's gotta take some skill.

Wow!
Cannibal #1 - Brian Buccellato,Jennifer Young,Matias Bergara

I'd never heard of this, but got it in a Humble Bundle.   (Hah, I keep not wanting the more recent Humble Bundles, so I spent another small chunk of money on the Marvel one dollar sale, which really comes to less than ninety cents with my Comixology Unlimited discount.   Since most of these collections are above ten dollars, a lot of them close to twenty, this is a steal.)

But, this... this is a creepy horror comic.   What if the zombie virus made you crave flesh, to the point that you couldn't help yourself - but you were still you, still felt disgusted by the desire, and guilt when you ate someone?

This is a new take on zombies, one that is truly creepy.   In a small, Florida town, no one's been infected - yet.   What happens when someone who is infected not only comes into town?

This comic is a lot of set up, for both the characters and scenario, but it makes the cliffhanger all that much more suspenseful.   Just a great take on zombies.

Rupert Wong, Cannibal Chef by Cassandra Khaw
Rupert Wong, Cannibal Chef (Gods and Monsters) - Cassandra Khaw

Series: Gods & Monsters #1

This was interesting because it was different, but I didn't end up enjoying the investigation portion all that much. It started off fairly strong, with Rupert talking about his "day" job as a chef to ghouls but the investigation seemed to mostly consist of Rupert doing magic spells to talk to people while they tried to kill him.

Despite his ghost tattoos, Rupert's a pretty average (albeit destined for hell unless he cleans up his karma by essentially doing community service) guy and so it was weird that he was drawing all this attention by incredibly powerful supernatural beings. He was terribly outclassed and it just seemed a bit...much?

I may read the sequel but I won't be rushing out to do so. This was only a novella, so maybe there just wasn't enough room for a satisfactory exploration of the world.

I read this for the "Diverse Voices" square for the Halloween Bingo but it could also be used for "Murder Most Foul", "Supernatural", "Monsters" (dragons, ghouls, undead-baby monsters), "Genre: Horror" (pretty gruesome), "Terrifying Women", "Amateur Sleuth", and "Ghost" squares. I might have missed some.

Cannibal Swine - Marlo Karloff Cannibal Swine - Marlo Karloff

DNF at 40%.

I thought it was going to be about killer pigs.

No such luck. Just some weird disjointed murder thriller centered around the corporate takeover of a pork rind plant.

Up to this point the only part that makes any sense is we know 2 people are dead and no one is happy.

The guy who hallucinates the company mascot when he's over tired is a nice touch, but not worth the effort.
