Audiobook Review: The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
The Devil Wears Prada - Lauren Weisberger

I saw the movie before I read the book, so of course I compared the two throughout my whole time listening to The Devil Wears Prada.

The book is quite different from the movie, which I loved. I know that book-lovers hate it when their favorite book gets a make-over when turned to film, but my experience was backwards. Reading a book after watching a faithful movie representation bothers me a little. I feel like it’s a waste of time, because I already know the characters and what happens. In this novel, the premise and most of the plot are the same, but the characters are distinctly different. The story isn’t as light-hearted as the movie, which I found to be the most striking difference. Miranda isn’t humanized at all, Emily is less mean (and therefore less funny), but she’s definitely a more interesting, complex character than what the movie shows, and there’s a lot more going on with Andrea’s friends and family in the novel.

Obviously, there are events the movie cut out due to time constraint and flow. These were fun to hear about and gave a much clearer picture on what Andrea was dealing with not only in regards to her job, but with her family and friends as well.

I’m really glad I listened to this on audiobook. The narrator, Bernadette Dunne, makes the characters come alive. I got a good feel for their personalities and I could picture them a lot better than I would have been able to if I had just simply read this novel.

Overall, The Devil Wears Prada is entertaining and funny. I also like that it has a good message, but I wasn’t beaten over the head with it. I would definitely recommend this, even to those who have seen the movie. Just be prepared for it to be different.

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren DeStefano
Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns - Lauren Weisberger
Meh.
This story was just okay. Yeah, it picks up where Devil Wears Prada left off but it isn't all that exciting. It's just a story.
Miranda's snark just turned into weird passive aggressive behavior in this one. Andy got soft(er) and kinda boring, and Emily reverted back to her bitchy ways. There really wasn't much to enjoy about any of them.
The writing did flow with the same ease, it's just the story wasn't thrilling at all. Just a continuation of their lives, which again, lacked for me.
So if there is a book 3, I am over it.

The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada - Lauren Weisberger I'm conflicted about how I feel about this one. I liked the story, but I hated some of the characters. There were times when I wanted to lock them all in a room and tell them they couldn't come out until they learned how to play nice, be civil human beings, and find some humanity and compassion.

I literally laughed (or, more accurately, snorted) several times. There was a lot of eye rolling, head shaking, and mumbling "OMG," "You've got to be kidding me," "Not again," "Seriously?" and other such things under my breath as I made my way through this book. But, there were also a few moments of cheering on some of the characters.

Overall, I'm glad I finally read it. I saw the movie years ago and remember enjoying it, but the book sat on my shelf for probably 3 years or more, and I've failed to read more than the first page several times. I think I was just in the mood for something reasonably light and ridiculous, and this fit the bill.

Reading progress update: I've read 176 out of 343 pages.
The Devil Wears Prada - Lauren Weisberger

I don't know what my problem is, but it has been a couple of weeks since I last read this book. I had chose this book as my chick-lit book of the month, but I have some troubles... When I read it, it's all right - not wauw, but all right - meanwhile I want to read something else. Counting pages to the next chapter, so I can read a chapter from an other book. I don't know if I am going to finish this book. I will give it to March to find out if I am finishing it or not.

As to my reading challenge I have read two Crossfire books and Fifty Shades of Grey... I would say those are pretty much qualified for chick-lit books, won't you..?
